Finally a great pizza food truck right here in Lakeway/Bee Cave. Across from Target and Home Depot Backdraft pizza is situated right on 620S in the food truck park. While this place has only been open a year (in which Ive been their #1 fan-- stay back you other pizza ninjas, this is my favorite pizza joint) its become super popular with locals (and by local I mean Texas locals which unlike other parts of the country are willing to drive 40 mins for good eats), but the owners seem to be taking it in stride with super quick service and a friendly smile. Everything is fresh made and artisanal here down to the fresh mozz (made from WI curds), marinara sauce, dough, and hand-pipped sausage-- you get the idea. So if they are sold out of something, dont despair, because everything on their menu is fantastic. First lets talk about the pizza.... The crust is super thin, but still with a toothsome crunchiness (e.g. Soft and firm, not a crackers). The sausage and mozz are, as I said, made fresh and you can really taste it. No cardboard box cheese flavor here. The eponymous Backdraft is incredible with jalapeños and sausage (they just also added pepperoni because more meat =MEAT!). And you can always customize any pizza you want anyway, so if meat aint your thang, thats cool too. The sauce is slightly sweet but does not overpower. Its very lightly sauced, so if youre a drencher or Chicago Rat pie lover then this may not be for you, but then again neither is food in my honest opinion :p. You will pay for using a credit card and taking it out with a box, but the charges are small, 0.35 and 0.25 respectively. The seating is covered and there are plenty of food options around with the food trailers, but honestly Im always called away by the smell of this pizza and havent really tried the others (okay I tried Boss Hog, but were talking about pizza here now!). Recently I discovered they have gluten free Wednesdays! What a delight! As to their non-pizza options: I was delighted to see waffles also on the menu. I mean what goes better with pizza and an icie (frozies is here too) than a waffle-- sugar mania!! Unfortunately the waffles are only available on Saturday mornings 9-11am, but they are definitely roadtrip worthy. More like a cake donut, and drizzled with biscoff sauce (or anything you want-- but biscoff is the best.. THE BEST!!), the exterior was crispy from the crystallized cookie glaze, but soft and tender in the center. The texture was doughy (like cake), but never soggy. These are what put waffles on the food map, not that soggy, tasteless crap you find a diners, but real waffles like you find in Belgium and during Christmas markets throughout Europe. Look Ive traveled around the world (and Im not kidding, my butt in seat miles are over 3 million) so Ive had pizza in Naples and Waffles in Belgium, but I always look forward to coming home and having a quick stop at Backdraft. Take it from their #1 Fan!! Now they also allow call in orders and some type of delivery option which I havent used because frankly I like to consume my pizza before some ninja steals it.

Backdraft Pizzeria has the best pizza around! Izak and Scarlett are always outrageously friendly and accommodating, and trust me Im as picky as they come with food. They make their own mozzarella and dough every day and oh my gosh is it good. After spending 3 weeks in Italy on our honeymoon we came back and all the pizza around was big and greasy but then we found Backdraft. Took us right back to Piazza Navona in Rome, relaxing having a late dinner watching the street artists paint. I cannot stress enough how good their pizza is, and dont even get me started on the leige waffles on Saturday mornings. PLUS, they have gluten free pizza Wednesdays! Now my grandmother-in-law with Celiac disease can come enjoy the delicious pizza shes been so jealous of.

LOVE LOVE LOVE, Backdraft Pizzeria!!! Everything is made to order with the freshest, QUALITY ingredients. The owners, Zach and Scarlett, truly care about their products and it shows. In addition to pizza, on Saturday mornings only, they serve liege waffles which are out of this world! The waffles are only served from 9-11ish so plan on getting there early. The liege waffles are also made to order with only the best ingredients. You can enjoy your meal at the picnic tables under the trees or take it home. Either way Backdraft Pizzeria should be on Diners Drive-Ins, and Dives! Whether you live nearby or are just passing through, dont deprive yourself the Backdraft Pizzeria experience. You will not be disappointed!!!

The only Saturday waffles Ive missed since Backdraft opened was when I havent been in town. It is a Saturday tradition in our household! Coming every Saturday is more than having a fantastic waffle with strawberries and chocolate, it is like stopping by to see family. From day 1 Scarlett and Izak took the time to get to know us and ask how we were doing or when I was going to be traveling. They are not like this with just us, but with everyone, and you can see this with all of the people that return on a regular basis. It is really wonderful to see a locally owned business becoming a tradition in the community. Please stop by and take the opportunity to get to know them as well!

Sometimes things come along that just change the world. Think: The Beatles, Robert Johnson, Neil Armstrong, Madame Curie. That kind of thing. We went to Back Draft Pizzeria thinking we were going for just some local pizza. But soon found something far more than just that. The world has changed. Not just mine, but everybody that was there. I looked around at the other people that were there and watched trans fixed as they took their first bite and the world changed for them. Then it was my turn. It really was beyond what should be. More than crust, sauce, cheese... Wow! They make there own cheese! They make their own sausage! THE BEST PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD.

I. LOVE. THIS. PIZZA. as a self proclaimed pizza snob and an actual professional cook, I can say with authority that Backdraft is a truly great pizza. Izak and Scarlett are wonderful owners and people. They made me feel very welcome. The trailer itself is very impressive as it was hand built by Izak himself. The brikc ove, which he also built, is bad-ass!! Im a little bit jealous, not gonna lie. I had the Carni pizza and it was delicious. The hand made spicy Italian sausage was spectacular and the dough had great flavor and chew. I cant wait to go Saturday morning for the legendary waffles! Keep up the good work yall!

Backdraft pizza is without a doubt the best pizza I have eaten in the US. I lived in Italy for a time and can say without hesitation that it is truly as good as it gets in terms of quality of ingredients, consistency, crust, and that homemade mozzarella. If you live north, come to BACKDRAFT, if you live east, come to BACKDRAFT, if you live in plugerville, come to BACKDRAFT for the best pizza in Austin. A great couple runs the place and I have yet to stop by and not have them 1) not remember my name and my children as well 2) come out and greet me and thank me for coming. Clearly, I am a fan.

Win! Win! Win! - Back Draft Pizzeria is a Lakeway Trifecta. Great Service. Great Vibe. Amazing Pizza. There is no doubt that Lakeway has a shortage of great places to eat regardless of what makes a place "great" for you. Lakeway aside, Back Draft offers one of the best pies I have eaten with a focus on quality ingredients and expert execution. Stop on the way and grab your favorite beer or bottle of wine for a true Austin food cart / outdoor dining experience. Top it off with happy, smiling faces ready to share their passion for great pizza. This place wont be for everyone but its for me!
