Found a cockroach in my food! Yes this is true!!! I set up a dinner for several friends and we all met here for dinner one night. The food was great but towards the end of the meal I found one on my plate mixed in with one of the sauces. When the lady came by I handed her the plate but did not alert any one else to what was going on (so not to gross any one out). Well she took it over and showed one of the other servers and they just kept looking at the plate and then towards me as if I deliberately put it in there. She offered no discount or apology nor did I ask for one. Dont get me wrong I love the food and used to go to the Independence location all of the time when it was open. Just dont think I can bring myself to go back to this place due to this one experience. BTW this location is pretty worn down and has a some what dingy appearance. The servers are friendly and like family owned.

After months of convincing I finally managed to get my girlfriend to try Indian food. She told me that if the food wasnt good and close that she would never eat it again! I put my love of Indian cuisine in the hands of the Taj Mahal and they did not disappoint. The food all came out hot (which is always a plus in my book) and was very flavorful. A minor complaint is that the chicken in two of the dishes was a little firm as though it had been overcooked. The nan was hot and fresh. We liked it so much we took an extra order home with us. A common theme seems to be that the buffet is lacking but we wouldnt know. Try their ordered service and judge them on that. The servers were all very friendly and the restaurant was clean. Our 16 month old loved the food. We will definitely be returning.

The good: drinks are cheap, the naan is really good, and the waitstaff are very nice. The bad: somebody earlier left a review on here comparing the tikka masala to Chef Boyardee ravioli. I read that before coming here and scoffed, thinking well, this person just hasnt had Indian before. Well...sadly, that review was not that inaccurate. We tried the masala and the vindaloo and both tasted like they had been poured straight from a can - the masala had a very tomato-y quality that one could not be faulted for comparing to spaghetti os, and the meat tasted like it had been reheated in the microwave. We love Indian food, and it does come in all tastes and spices - maybe some folks will like this. It wasnt for us, though.

Had dinner at Taj with some friends over the weekend, and got to sample some dishes they dont usually have on the lunch buffet. The food was was excellent, except the lamb vindaloo. The lamb was riddled with gristle--nearly every piece. So, the lesson for me is (sadly) avoid the lamb. The service was very good, though. My chai never ran dry. Have had the lunch buffet many times since ~2002, and while I dont think its as good as it used to be (change of ownership a few years ago?), its still my favorite buffet. Interesting thing...the naan at dinner was heartier than at lunch time.

The food here is good, but when I came to pickup a to-go order they accidentally gave my order to someone else. That could be a simply resolved issue, but they didnt handle it well at all. When I placed my order they told me it would be 20 minutes. I got my food in 35 minutes. They just gave me the same food this lady was driving around with for 15 minutes. On top of all this I barely got anything resembling an apology. For how much I paid I dont expect these type of mistakes. Ill be getting my to-go Indian food from somewhere else from now on. Just not professional at all.

I went there with my spouse and ordered two goat biryani. This was my worst biryani experience ever. The attendant brought in two goat biryani which did not have any scent of biryani and the rice was sticky. Even they did not use Basmati rice I suppose. The goat had no taste. In short, it tasted to us like a sticky curried rice with meat. We told this to the attendant and shockingly he was grining as if nothing happened. Later he gave us two gulab jamuns to make us happy but we did not touch it at all. I would never visit this restaurant ever as long as I live in Missouri.

The food was very good with a good selection on the buffet. However when I was prepared to pay and leave they said they were having issues with their system. Asked if I could pay with cash, and I only had a debit card to pay. I waited patiently for about 10 minutes while they tried to get register(ipad) to work. I was on a lunch break so I had to go. He asked me if he could write down my card information and run it later. ABSOLUTELY NOT! So food was very good but that was about it. They should have just comped my meal and apologized for the inconvenience.

My boyfriend and I had an appointment downtown and we decided to try it out since it was just down the street. We went to the Independence location, but this one was even better! The food wasnt overly spicy but still quite flavorful. After filling my belly with naan, samosas, tanddori chicken, tikka masala, and loads of raita, we were both delightfully stuffed. The food was so good that we overate anyway! I slept for three hours after that and it was so worth it....the food was so good!

On first glance, this small little restaurant tucked away in a mini-mall might not get your hopes up. It is poorly lit, but clean, and the service is good. The food is the main drawing point, however. This restaurant seems to always draw a significant number of Indians, a sure sign that its serving authentic food. This doesnt mean that its too spicy; on the contrary, it was just right to my Western taste buds as well. Great choice for Indian food made right.

I went at the tail-end of the lunch buffet (30 minutes left) and the food was warm, but not hot. There were no dishes being put out due to the late timing that I showed up. That being said, the food was still good, but the amount of choices in the buffet was lacking compared to other Indian restaurants I have been to around the KC area. Also: nothing was spicy to me, and I have a very sensitive pallet.

The food is good and prepared well, the buffet is a decent value as well, but under no circumstances would I recommend a to go order. I got one single order of chicken tikka masala with some Naan and it was almost $18 which is not bad of you were to get more then 4 small cubes of chicken. It tasted really good but the amount I received was hardly enough for me and my daughter to actually call a meal.

I went for lunch buffet with my family. 1. Everyone in the family got sick after eating food. 2. Not fresh food 3. Some entrees had horrible tase specially non veg. 4. Service was bad. I asked for Naan as there was non to which the owner said take bhatura instead( fried naan). They were walking around with dirty mops to clearn the floor and tables.
