El Chile is the big brother of El Chilito and part of a larger family of restaurants. Ive been happy with each and every one and I make my decision as to where I should go based on my mood and location. While Im sad that El Chilito left East Austin, the new place is beautiful. Lots of light. Nice (small) patio. El Chile is doing things right in terms of food. Its Tex-Mex. Its great any time of day. Brunch just might be the ideal time for a visit because you can get away with break-Mex or the more traditional offerings. Not exactly sure what an "a$$ mimosa" is. But they have them. Theyre great. And theyre big. So make sure, if youre there for brunch, to order one (or two (or three)) big a$$ mimosas (El Chilitos words, not mine). (Sorry that I had to edit the name, but Google seems to think this post is inappropriate).

The ahí tuna was perfect and the mixed drink was delicious! But why am I paying these prices for mediocre waitstaff? I didnt even care that her shirt was filthy because she seemed helpful and upbeat...until she handed me my check to sign and then she matched her dirty shirt. Most staff wait until you leave the table to pick up the receipt but this chic was lnt even trying to hide the fact that she wanted to see her tip. I cant even imagine not tipping, even for bad service but she ruined the experience. Excellent Customer service is rare but I would expect it at this type of establishment. So although the food was amazing, I still wouldnt recommend alcomar to a friend.

El Chile is a great place to have the Tex Mex version of a "ladies lunch." With its adorable and bright Bouldin Creek neighborhood setting, fresh food and convenient parking (parking!), its a quick and easy rendezvous point. Although the menu seems slightly overpriced in comparison to portion size, the food is more "elevated" than your standard fried and cheese-covered Tex Mex. The seafood dishes are of particular note, especially the fish tacos. As a bonus, the roasted salsa is magical--you will absolutely spoil your meal with its red smoky goodness. Theres a wealth of dining options on South First, but El Chile is a solid and convenient choice for a delicious lunch.

Food was good. Waiter was nice sometimes but seemed inconvenienced/annoyed when we would ask for anything. We were with a group of 8 ppl And ordered a good amount of appetizers. We were full so we ordered only 6 entrees and a bowl of soup and 3 beverages and desserts. It came out to $365. when mentioned that we wanted to pay $160 in cash he was annoyed that He was not getting a cash tip so when we received the receipts I noticed he charged $20 more then needed. We mentioned it was over charged and he said we "only left $140"! BS I counted it multiple times and he totally lied about it! We still left $60+ tip on top of the missing $20! Hes Not good for business!

We only came for drinks and light fare during happy hour, so until we come back for dinner, Im giving it a qualified three stars. But what we ate didnt deserve more. The wood grilled calamari were yummy, nice smoky flavor coming through. The ceviche verde just didnt work. It was a mishmash of components and flavors and didnt come together. The cubed fish was not tender nor flavorful. I guess Ive been spoiled by amazing Peruvian ceviche. This was lackluster and the plantain chips only helped marginally. Drinks (Sangre 75 and Doña Rosa) were both good, but definitely better on paper than in reality. We really wanted to like this place so well be back.

Great place! Overall the food and drinks were really tasty. Its a little higher-end ($10 for a margarita) but worth it. The decor is pretty modern and the lights dim. Tons of space to stretch out and catch-up with friends. We had a party of 10 and the service was so-so. We were able to get free queso by checking-in on social networks. So that was cool, and slightly tacky at the same time. We were charged an extra dollar for replacing the chips for the queso. Not sure if thats because they were free or a normal practice. I had the shrimp tacos and they were pretty good. They could use more shrimp. Overall, Id come back and recommend to my friends.

I love the idea of Mexican seafood and was looking forward to a visit to a restaurant that presents this as its specialty. The oysters we had were great but both of the main lunch dishes we ordered were completely bland. I had the lobster taquitos. The grilled vegetables were soggy, dull and flavorless, much like the lobster. I asked for lemon just to give the meal some extra flavor but it didnt do much to improve it. My guest had the tuna tostadas and said they were bland and "off". I think the disappointment came from the high expectations I had of this place and it just didnt deliver.

We were sat immediately and ordered as soon as the waitress asked us for an order - one hour plus later - no food and no word on where it was or what was going on. We had a 1 pm lunch reservation for 3 people and it was not busy - maybe 10 other people in the place. Sort of weird because it was obvious to numerous personnel that we were not being served, but everyone was ignoring us for some reason - dunno. I suppose the food is fine based on reviews but if you are in a hurry or expecting a reasonably brief dining experience, I would probably try some other place.

I was really looking forward to trying a few select dishes on the happy hour menu but when I finally made there to eat, it was pretty disappointing. The service was excellent, but the food was just okay and I didnt find much about it this place made me want to return except the house margarita. I had the peruvian ceviche and it was just ok. The grilled octopus tostadas were alright, but again, nothing special. I would go back for a $30 entree and try the snapper or the scallops and have another marg if someone else was buying.

Great atmosphere and interesting Tex-Mex and seafood fusion. The guava mimosa was a welcome twist to the usual orange juice. Alcomar should have 4 stars, but everything we ordered was greasy. And Im not referring to "cooked with oil", but literally dripping. Queso flameado with sauteed mushrooms makes me nauseous just remembering it. The lobster omelette was oily, and stuffed with greasy vegetables. Didnt even finish half of it. For the prices they charge, youd think the chef would pay more attention to detail.

So Im a little disturbed by the positive reviews of this place. My friend and I saw the reviews and we were very excited to try this place out. I have to say, this was the worst food in many ways that I have had. The ingredients did not go well together and it was extremely overpriced. The crab queso had NO flavor and the lobster tail tacos were cheaply put together. This is by far the worst experience I have had. Oh and hey only have 1 sauce for everything!!! It gets old fast. Save your time and money

Alcomar exceeded my dining expectations. I really am not even that big of a seafood person, but I loved EVERYTHING I tried here! GET. THE. GRILLED. CALAMARI. You wont regret it. It has this amazing smokey flavor that is to die for, seriously. Couldnt get enough of that. Also the mole verde is delicious, and this is coming from someone who isnt a fan of traditional mole. The service was fabulous, attentive but not overbearing, and the restaurant itself was well decorated and kept with the "sea" theme.
