Our visit to the Flying Fish was both expensive and very disappointing. Nearly forty dollars for two dishes that failed to live up to our expectations. First, for an appetizer, we had the bacon wrapped peppers stuffed with shrimp and cheese. The Hawaiian something or another. These were fairly well cooked, flavorful, and pretty tasty. The cheese was of fair quality and the bacon was crispy. The shrimp, however, was over powered by everything else and really could have been left out for all that we would taste it. Id have traded that shrimp for some crumbled bacon mixed in with the cheese in a hearbeat. However, 6 for $10.50 is just too much. Next we move on to the entrees. My wife had the fried catfish basket and I had the fried shrimp po-boy. Where to start. The catfish was flavorless, mushy, and just not worth the $8.50 we paid for it. Though the batter crust was well cooked and crunchy it wasnt able to even come close to making up for the lack of seasoning in the cornmeal batter nor the fact that the fish was mushy instead of flakey. My wife gave up on it after a few bites. I had the po-boy. Now, you have to understand, when I see the words po-boy Im expecting a sandwich I will have trouble picking up much less biting. This was NOT one of those sandwiches. The shrimp was, overall, pretty tasty and was seasoned much better than the catfish. However, I did find pieces of fin in my sandwich. Fin, the part of the shrimp I should NOT be served in a po-boy. I also was able to count the nearly half dozen butterflied shrimp which is another thing you shouldnt be able to do easily. There should be a LOAD of shrimp in that sandwich. And for the near $12 we paid for it they surely charged for it. Veggies, mayo, and a cocktail sauce which went together well rounded this sandwich out. It was decent but should have been much better for the price. We wont be going back to the Flying Fish because we simply cant afford to spend another $40 on such a disappointing meal. You are better off heading a few steps further East and having a burger at Twisted Root.

Their prices have climbed up to upscale prices for a downhome experience. Their hushpuppies are small, dense, and greasy. I got the "all you can eat" catfish. The fillets had been sliced in half, so the meat of the fish was less than 1/4" thick. The cornmeal breading (tasteless) was as thick as the fish itself, making it inedible. This meal was $14.95. My wife had a meal featuring two of these fillets, two fried oysters, and two fried shrimp. The shrimp was overcooked and this meal was 18.95. The service was rude and slow. When we showed them the fillets they served us, they gave us a voucher for 1 free meal. I left the restaurant hungry. I cant guarantee Ill be back to redeem it.

BEWARE - - they fry in PEANUT OIL. However, people with peanut allergies, do not fret. Both I and my sister are allergic to peanuts, and we can both eat here, as long as we eat the grilled or boiled fish. Neither of us want to try the fried food, but certain types of peanut oil is safe, because it doesnt have the protein that the cheap peanut oil has, but I dont care to risk it. Anyways, I love the boiled crab, and shrimp. Just the best at the cheapest price I have been able to find, even the corn and potatoes are good as well. I will say when they say "Hot", they mean super spicy, so spicy that your face starts to melt.

Flying Fishs Cajun jambalaya was all hot spice, no flavor, runny and thin. Getting legit Cajun food anywhere north of Alexandria, Louisiana is a longshot. Texas is unmatched for lots of great things like BBQ & Tex-Mex. Getting Cajun food in Texas or north Louisiana is like getting BBQ in NY. Its poboy seemed like frozen flash fried oysters with 90% lettuce and no flavor, just bland cheap mayonnaise. 3 stars would be too generous for what I got delivered for the price I paid. Do not recommend.

I really dont see what the big hoopla is about this place. Nice atmosphere, but the food wasnt impressive. I did a to-go order for the fish fillet (1) and it was very small ( reminded me of a kids meal ). For $6.99, it should at least come with two or the size should be bigger. It wasnt seasoned well either. My husband had a burger and the size was good, but it was bland. He said it didnt taste fresh, like maybe they use frozen meat. Eh, I dont know. Dont think Ill be back.

We have never had a bad meal; I usually get something fried, the wife loves the broiled fish and she always get it "snappy", that is what they call their spicy seasoning, you have to ask for it. - This is not the gulf coast and as such it is not exactly cheap but then it is a lot cheaper than some of the other fish houses around and it is really good. - We are heading there in just a few minutes. The weather is nice for sitting outside on the benches.

My wife says 4, but shes an authentic seafood aficionado. For Dallas, this place is a 5. Had the mud bugs and while not New Orleans good, they definitely qualify as Dallas good. Atmosphere is great and menu selection is huge. Recommendation, let me open a tab for beer.... This is a counter service place so if you need more than a pint to wash things down, youll have to slap the wallet, but a minor inconvenience. Overall, great place, great food.

We came with the extended family after church and all got different things to try. All of the food was perfectly grilled or fried, and side dishes were delicious, too! (Grilled trout, fried catfish, fried oysters, fried frog legs, fish tacos, red beans & rice, fries, fried okra, onion rings and cole slaw.) We were suggested by the cashier to add a cup of the lobster stew, and I think it is a new favorite! We will definitely be back!

Love the salmon with the grilled vegetables. One time my vegetables came out with a nice char on them and really was great. Food is great here if you love seafood. Love the atmosphere as well with the Billy Bass fish on the walls Located in downtown Arlington district of Abrams. Just keep in mind Abrams is under construction so some road closures are in that area but dont let that detour you from this establishment

Both mine and my wifes talapia was not done in center. I took both platters back to have them cooked more. Which they did but a few minutes and brought them back and tried to explain that talapia is always pink inside even when done. I wont argue color but it will be flakey, not mush. They did not keep the rest of our food hot while grilling the fish more. I heard good things about this place but We wont be back.
