These guys are local veterans and the early pioneers of vegetarian food in a part of the country that inhales meat in every meal! When they began, they were authentic and true to their source: south Indian fares. Over time they have grown in popularity, and I think, have become complacent. The food is still good, dont get me wrong, but its not great as it once used to be. Once I found a rubber band in my food. Another time, I asked for pongal, a simple and delicious south Indian dish made out of rice, lentils and pepper, and was given a porridge of some sort. The sambar - the spicy gravy that comes with many of the dishes - is a hit or miss as are the chutneys. They have been consistent with their channa batura - the spaceship sized deep fried dough, but their Indo-chinese dishes are severely lacking in flavor. Even their south Indian style stretched filter coffee is a rip off. I rarely go to this place anymore with better options available in the city. However, Woodlands is still the undeniable champ when it comes to exotic vegetarian varieties in the city.

With much hopes put on the iconic name (even though this restaurant has nothing to do with the iconic woodlands restaurant in INDIA), and after reading some review we went out of our way (2.5 hrs driving) to Nashville Woodlands. I am from India, I lived in NY/NJ for over 13 yrs and I moved to TN. This is horrible. they dont even know the basic difference between Masala Dosa ( the masala must be inside), Paper Dosa aka Neyy Roast and regular Dosa. Also I tired Malai Kofta , I just spit it out. The chef, the owner and the workers must try food from restaurants like Chopaatti - Atlanta, Tadka - New Jersey or atleast must ask their mother for help to learn how to cook authentic vegetarian Indian Dishes. The 2 stars goes to the order taker who did his part well - humble, kind, ready to serve ( maybe he knew Indian clients wont have smiling face after trying this garbage)

I wish I didnt live a thousand miles away. Andrea and I stopped here for dinner on a drive across the country. There was a fifteen minute wait on a Saturday night. The ambiance is upscale for an Indian restaurant, but not crazy upscale. Service was extremely friendly, and about average speed. Whats really cool about this place from my perspective is that they have Indian-style Chinese food in addition to the standard south-Indian fare. I had a Szechwan masala dosa, which was a masala dose stuffed with chopped, stir-fried veggies mixed with a spicy potato mash, with dal and coconut sauce on the side. Yum! Prices are on the high side of cheap--my dosa was $9.00. Worth it. Andreas dosa was cheaper. They get extra points for not pre-sweetening the chai. Contrary to another review here, staffs English is perfectly serviceable.

The worst thing is these people deleted my post instead of working on poor reviews. I even noticed others post were also deleted. I am putting my reviews again hope this time it wont be repeated. Recently I visited this restaurant for first time it was hard to figure out the location and there is no sign boards outside which can be seen clearly from roads. As we entered the staff were unwelcoming and biggest thing when we were served food these waiters were constantly staring at us and other guest also which was purily uncomfortable to talk or enjoy the meal. Maybe its management fault that the staff are trained. The management needs to be change ASAP. I dont prefer to go same restaurant again.

Holy wow, I dont live in Nashville bit make it a point to stop by every time I am passing through. This is by far one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. Even at the dishes that arent especially authentic tasting are really tasty and the stuff they make well is unbelievable. I should call their chef a drug dealer for all the endorphin releases I have on my brain after I eat here. Excellent food, excellent service and amazing vegetarian choices. Also, one of the few Indian restaurants Ive been to that didnt frown on making small changes to the recipes - like leaving out the butter etc. Highly, highly recommended!

The first time I went there I had the buffet and it was wonderful but the service was poor. The flavors were fresh and tasty. Not many Vegan choices though and way too much white bread & white rice...filler foods. The second time I went there it was a disaster. They served a small bowl of tomato sauce with peas and three grilled hamburger buns...yes, hamburger buns! For $9.50????? Bad idea. I was very disappointed. The waiter was rude when I sent my plate back to the kitchen. I'll never order off the menu again. The buffet was great once and mediocre another time....inconsistent!

After spending a few weeks in Malaysia, its the only place in Nashville that comes close to the authentic southern-style Indian food of vegetarian curries with other eclectic dishes to boot. We eat at Woodlands about once a month and are always excited for the Manchurian Corn. We had Woodlands cater a graduation party for 35 people and they were more than helpful in suggesting dishes and helping stay within our budget. It all came steaming fresh and excellent--as Woodlands consistently is. I cant wait to plow through the leftovers!

Average food .. not worth travelling 180 miles as it was hyped.. wouldnt call it bad but OK. Pathetic service there was something messy in food and when I notified the manager his response was thank you sir .. when I said again it was thank you sir finally I had to raise my voice a little, he said sorry sir but you could have caused it and finally at billing I thought he is going to ask me not to pay my bill as courtsey but he didnt care .. guess my bad for being at the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people :(

Not sure ,why there is a huge ratting for this restaurant. The food is just ok and waiting time is too high ,even though there are empty tables present . kids under three years are charged for the tiny amount of food they eat. Never saw a dish named rasamalai made with rasugula soaked in rice kheer. So people ,my humble suggestions is by seeing 4.+ Ratting in Google and yelp , please dont expect a good food. Just prepare yourself for a normal indian restaurant experience. Chow

This is by far the best Indian food Ive ever had. I was initially skeptical of an all-vegetarian menu (I like my meat dishes), but the Dal Makhani was one of the most delicious things Ive ever tasted, not just Indian food – and was completely filling. From what I could tell its also pretty authentic, for what thats worth. Its in a weird location on the first floor of an apartment building, but dont let that scare you away. Try it!
