The two stars signifies their poor service and subpar food. I was happy to see the 100% marks for their health rating, and the festive environment. However, the food was not very appealing. Albeit, my food selections were from 4 vegetarian dishes (saag paneer, okra curry, a mushroom curry, and something else). The spices used for each dish did not produce the mouthwatering flavors known to describe these indian dishes. They all tasted similar and rather bland actually. The vegetable to oil ratio is fairly high as well. The "naan" might be pita bread-whatever it is, I think it is not great. The saving point was the tandori roti - which was fresh and delicious. If you eat here, i would steer you away from their fake naan. There are a handful of indian restaurants in the area I have visited- Sitar, bombay palace, and woodlands (in no order of preference). Unfortunately I regretfully admit, all three are superior to this one.

It really pains my soul to post a negative review. Honestly, this was not a good dining experience. My mother and I ordered the chicken biryani and it tasted super old, like it had been cooked a couple of days before. There was absolutely no flavor, no fresh chillies or spices. BUT my biggest complaint is the naan--it is not freshly made. They have substituted it with a type of pita/flatbread (not sure of the proper name) that is sold in several middle eastern stores around town. Also, you have to purchase sauces individually and there is no papadum served before the meal. For the price you are better to go somewhere else, as there are many far superior places to enjoy Indian food in this city. The positives: staff are friendly, and I like the cozy atmosphere.

Shalimar..pay more and get the worst out of it.. We ordered to go...The prices are very high for the quality or the quantity of food what they are offering. They didnt even gave the raitha and shorba (gravy) with the biryani. Biryani is too dry and it just tastes like an oil fired rice. The amount they are charging is very high, the quality is no way a match to the the cost. There are a lot of other restaurants where yo can pay less and get the best out it. It is better to stay away form this restaurant.. Its very BAD... Shalimar..pay more and get the worst out of it..

It was disgusting..Soup was a so bad for the price they charge..pakoras were gud..chutney was so less..parathas were ready to eat..naans myself seen they were geeting ready made from outside..just heating & serving..malai kofta..i m sure koftas were frozen..too less qty for the price they charge..rice was okay..but biriyani was a big joke to serve some plain rise on the top of curry mix..I will never suggest anyone to even try to enter this place..I dont think its an Indian food..someone non-indian seems like owning this restaurant..

I was a bit doubtful when my fiance wanted to take me to Shalimar...and reading all these reviews on Google would lead most to believe that this restaurant isnt worth going to. Theyre completely wrong. The food was out of this world, the service was beyond amazing, and the place is sooo romantic! Sitar and Woodlands may have their specialties, but Shalimars food blew any memory of theirs out of my mind. Do yourself a favor and take your significant other to this place - its worth every penny!

Cheated me for a special gathering, two drumsticks and white rice plate and a piece of samposa should not cost $10, I could have a nice lunch package from Kentucky fried chicken or popyes for less than that. It was a special gathering for family and friends and no one there appreciated the food There was 25 persons and all agreed on terrible food and expensive package Otherwise I was screwed real good from people I have known for a while I wish that I have opted some where else

After moving from the UK we have tried many Indian Restaurants to find that taste of home....Sadly this was the worse one in town...Really Expensive, small portions and the Naan bread was pizza dough......it was very dissapointing and misleading...especially for the price... Also the tables were very close together we felt like we were eating with the neighbours! Sorry but it was the bottom of our pics for Indians in Nashville,

No offense but the Chicken Tikka Masala tasted like Boyardee ravioli sauce and the naan tasted like an undercooked pizza dough. Dont believe me? Go try it for yourself. I cant justify why their food is more expensive than others. It may be the worst Indian Restaurant Ive ever been to. However, the interior decor is not bad if you prefer a small, cozy atmosphere though. Nonetheless, I wouldnt recommend this place to a friend.

I had a delightful time here. I went with my husband and my son and we were met with prompt friendly service. The buffet was delicious and served very hot. I usually am not a big eater but my first serving was so delicious I couldnt help myself and I had another serving. I particularly enjoyed the curry chicken and yogurt. I would definitely recommend this stellar establishment.

Shalimar is the best Indian restaurant in Nashville. I know, because Im there every week! Anyone writing a bad review for this place is off their rocker and has no clue what they are talking about. The Chicken Tikka Masala and hot Chi Tea are my favorite, but really everything they have is second to none in quality. The service at Shalimar is also the best!

We have enjoyed Shalimar for years. They have very generous takeout; we have enough for a lunch as well as dinner. Their basmati rice is the most sohpisticated in Nashville. Their lamb, shrimp and mali kafta are our favorites. The complaints about slow service are on point, especially for lunch. We have never had a big issue at dinner.

Always thought it was a bit pricey, but reasonably worth it since there wasnt any other Indian food in Green Hills. The last couple times it just wasnt good enough at any price. Tandoori chicken was dry, seasoning smothered on instead of cooked in. Rice undercooked. The bread is still great, so 2 stars instead of 1.

Visited this restuarant back in early March and was very pleased! Had the Lamb Tiki Masala with extra naan. Very good! The gentlemen were very friendly, food fresh and spicy as heck...lol. The establish is kinda small though and not much room. But the service and food made up for that in a big way. Will return!

Some of my most favorite Indian food in Nashville! They offer a few more American Indian dishes but they have some more authentic choices as well. Delivery service is great but the restaurant is a really nice spot as well! Always great service and excellent food quality.
