Stopped in Handi after driving all day long on I85. Love good Indian food. The restaurant was about half full, and had a nice elegant feel. I was seated toward the back of the restaurant after waiting five minutes or so. After sitting for a few minutes, an employee asks if I have been waited on and I say that I have not. She says she will be right back so I wait patiently. I had looked at their menu on the internet prior to coming, so I was ready to order. Another employee asks if I had been waited on and I say sort of. Finallly the first lady returns. I ask if I can go ahead and order. She says OK, so I ask for the Vegetable Thali. I had a simple question about this item. She asked another employee to answer my question as the first lady did not understand or speak english very well. My questions is answered and I my order is now heard by two different employees. A few minutes later I ask the first waitress to make sure someone turned my order in to the kitchen, as I could see how talking to two waitresses could get make it confusing. I am assured that it is. At about this time a customer seated about 10 feet from me gets up and heads down the corridor to the bathroom. Poor fellow cannot make it to the bathroom before getting sick in the hallway. (Vomit) He stays in the bathroom for 10 minutes or so then returns to his seat. I waive for the server and very quietly ask her if someone could please clean up the vomit that had been lying in the hallway for over 10 minutes and check the bathroom. (wanted to wash my hands and thought it might be good for their business if this was addressed promptly) I waited patiently as my appetizer came. I really wanted to wash up. I try to get my servers attention again. She comes over and I ask again. She says that I may use the ladies room instead and she will watch and make sure no one enters. I say OK, wash up in the laidies room and return to my table. The appetizer was pretty good, but it was hard to enjoy because of the smell of vomit coming from the hallway that was so close to my table. I checked my watch and it had now been 20 minutes since this guy got sick. He had since recieved his check and left the restaurant. I asked the server once again if she could have someone take care of the mess and that the smell was making me nauseous. She again said she wold take care of it. (Just wanted to point out a second time that the restaurant was not very busy) After about 15 more minutes the Hostess comes to my table and asks if I have ordered yet. I tell her that I ordered close to 30 minutes ago. She asks me what I ordered and I tell her Vegetable Thali. She then says Masala? I say no, Vegetable Thali. She says she will go check on it. I am running out of patience so I get up and check the hallway. The vomit is still there. Been lying there for about 35 minutes. Unbelievable! I walk toward the front of the restaurant and stop by the hostess stand and tell the lady that I will not be able to wait for them to find my order. Calmly in a whispering voice, I explain about the situation in the back with the vomit lying in the floor. I explain how I had brought it to my waitress attention and she assured me that it would be taken care of and did not even offer to move me closer to the front of the restaurant. The hostess told me that it was OK to leave and that they did not have anyone to clean up vomit. FOR REAL! This was truly a Twighlight Zone type of experience. Had my taste buds ready for good indian food. Had read the great reviews. Hopefully they were trying out all new employees that Saturday night or something. Awful experience.

Handi offers top-notch traditional Indian cuisine prepared with American palates in mind. There is quite a bit of variety through the week, but enough reiteration of staple dishes that at least one or two of your favorites will always be in the rotation. They have the buffet split into three general sections: Meat dishes, vegetarian dishes and a cold bar with salads, fruits, desserts, chutneys, sauces and so forth. Once in a while, they will set a batch of pastries (samosas and the like) to the side to make room for other dishes. The mid-day buffet is "safe" for those sensitive to heat, but they keep some hotter sauces and chutneys out for those who like it. They also will prepare dishes to order, even during the day when the buffet is the main attraction. The vegetarian side tends to be a bit hotter than the meat side, spice-wise. In the evening, the buffet is closed, and patrons can order from an expanded menu. This is when you want to go if you want to try some full-tilt spiced dishes. They will allow you to select the degree of heat you prefer. Many more traditional favorites are on the menu that you will rarely or never see on the buffet. A good way to introduce yourself to Indian food is to try one of the samplers, which is, in general, a four-course presentation (including the pappad and chutney) that includes an Indian dessert. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. There is a minor communications barrier on occasion, but in general, the service is excellent, very respectful, no hovering waiters, but attentive when you need something. The prices are generally good - but, if you want the best deal, mid-day buffet is the way to go. The menu service is more expensive on average, by as much as $10 per person.

Food was average its good indian food but its nothing speical like i wouldnt say its worth going out of your way for. The service is terrible and thats why i gave it a bad review we were there for 2 hours. We had to wait 15 minutes for our table even though there were 8 empty ones then they ended up putting us at a table that was empty before we even came in. Then right after they seated us no one gave us menus or even asked for drinks until we asked ourselves and then they still didnt ask about drinks they just came back 20 yes 20 mintues later and asked what drink and food we wanted so we were now there for 40 mintues no food or drink still and ontop of all that at this indian resturant they charge you for the papardi and chutney that everywhere else you get for free its like the chips and salsa of the indian world. So once we ordered our drinks came in 5 minutes but theres nothings else so we just sat there for 40 minutes for our food to come out and after they gave us the food no one came by for refills or to ask about how the food was then once we were all done no one offered a check or dessert or anything we had to flag someone down 25 minutes after we were done eating. Overall the food was good but service was terrible they have a older lady and man working that dont know how to serve or host properly they need to hire a waitress or two so it can handle the customers. I wouldnt go back just because of the service and unnecessary wait food was good but there are other resturants in Greenville with same quilty food.
