Walked in tonight. Open sign light up. They turn light off as we are walking in and say they are closed but we can place a to go order. We would have liked to dine in but placed the order anyway. Spent close to $40 on hibatchi food for 2 people (2 full meals with steak shrimp vegetables and rice and a side of extra steak). Told lady we would like extra terriaki and ginger sauce because we like putting it on all of our food and we didnt want the shrimp sauce that it came with. She gave us a total of 4 small cups of sauce. I reminded her of what I said and asked for more sauce. She pulls out a menu and says $1.50 per extra small little cup of sauce. I asked if we were dining in would it be all we wanted for free. She said yes but they were going to close. There were 3 other families eating in there one of which was just getting their food. I had already told her it was our first time when we walked in. I told the lady that we would have dined in if given the option and making me pay $1.50 per little cup of sauce that would have been free if I ate there is not going to make me want to come back. She just smiled and shook her head like I said something good. On to the review of the food. The teriyaki sauce was awful. Glad I didnt pay for more. When asked what kind of steak it was she said beef. When we asked if it was filet or sirilon or ribeye she had to go ask. She came back and said ribeye. She said its the same thing you get at the hibatchi restraunts where they cook in front of you. The shrimp wasnt much bigger than the size you put on salad (really small). The steak definitely wasnt ribeye. It was very chewy. I had to spit it out because I couldnt get it chewed up. Their rice sticks together and was a little mushy. Their veggies werent good either. It seemed like they didnt use hardly any sauces when cooking the food. We threw away almost all of our food. I honestly cant say ANYTHING good about this place. I did try to eat the food with an open mind because I knew the lady that took our order and made me mad about the sauces was just one person and didnt cook the food. Dont waste your time or money! Id rather have McDonalds and I dont usually do McDonalds.

Situated off of busy John B. White Sr. Boulevard close to I-26, Wasabi is an exceptional Japanese restaurant in South Carolinas Upstate. Since moving to South Carolina from urban South Florida, Wasabi has become my favorite restaurant. It has a pleasant atmosphere, extraordinarily attentive service, and fantastic food. Do not let its location in a strip-mall deceive you; Wasabi offers top-notch sushi and Japanese dishes that will tantalize and satisfy the senses, all at an excellent price. My personal favorites include the baked mussels as an appetizer (note the use of honey in this dish, which compliments the natural sweetness of the mussels) and tempura appetizer (its hard to go wrong with tempura coated fried shrimp). For entrees, the restaurant offers a good selection of noodle, soup, and heartier dishes, but I always go for the sushi. My favorites include the Dragon Roll, Devil Roll, and for those who like their sushi raw - the Dr. Peters. In general, the sushi rolls run $6 to $13 - not bad at all from my travels. I also enjoy the sashimi here, but must confess that the fish quality is not equal to that of the trendy South Florida sushi bars. That, though, is to be expected considering simple location. However, Ive never had sushi or sashimi at Wasabi that failed to satisfy. Finally, one can enjoy some excellent saki at Wasabi - the Momokawa is one of my favorites and is worth the price. If youre seeking terrific cuisine, a relaxed atmosphere, and great service head to Wasabi Japanese Restaurant. You wont be disappointed.

As we were headed home from the beach, we decided to stop in Spartenburg for some Japanese and sushi. After looking through reviews for various Japanese restaurants, we decided on Wasabi. I eat sushi very frequently and enjoy a myriad of sushi combinations. This had to be the worst sushi experience I have ever had. The waitress was very sweet and attentive, but that was the only positive part of our dining experience. I ordered plain ramen noodles for my 9 year old daughter who is a very picky eater. They charged me $8 for the noodles. I ate a roll that had spicy tuna sausage in it. The tuna was fried on the outside and burnt. The other roll (I think it was the Jim roll) had hardly any tuna in it. It was awful! I tried telling the waitress about both issues. The chef, and possibly the owner, came out and was rude the moment he came to the table. He did not apologize or ask if I wanted to switch it for something else. He refused to remove the gross tuna roll from my tab. I only had one piece of it and was still hungry. I have never been treated in such a rude manner at a restaurant before. If you dont eat sushi often and just want a basic California roll, you will be ok. But, the California roll was just mediocre. And, its hard to mess that one up. My advice-stay away!!

We are new to the area so we thought wed give this place a shot being that it had such great reviews. The people were really nice but the food and service was mediocre at best. While we shared an order of tempura, I had a crunch roll and my husband had a bento box with beef with the chicken skewers on the side. Though we ate the tempura off of napkins because we didnt get any appetizer plates, it wasnt that bad. It was probably the best part of our meal. The crunch roll I had was just bland. There wasnt really much to it and the beef in the bento box was almost too spicy. To get an idea, he usually goes for hot or a level hotter on his wings. Either way, though it wasnt the worst food weve ever had, it certainly wasnt worth the $45 we spent.

Wasabi has the freshest fish and the best Sushi Chef in the world! There are so many choices on the menu that you will never be disappointed. The fish is imported straight from Japan. I have eaten a lot of sushi restaurants throughout my life and Wasabi in Spartanburg is definitely the best by far. I live in Greenville SC and I drive 30 miles to eat at Wasabi. Its so worth it! The people that work there treat you like you are a friend. I appreciate everyone that works at Wasabi. Thank you. Fernando

The best sushi spot in spartanburg and the surrounding areas. Having different kinds of fish and not the typical fish like tuna salmon red snapper etc. They actually get the unique fish like giant clam my favorite blue fin tuna belly "Toro" the best cut of the tuna. Melt in ur mouth must try. Wasabi has to be the only one that has it. Friendly waitress nice sushi chef.
