As we live in West Ashley, this is one of our go-to spots. Of all tiki joints weve hit nation-wide, this is a perfect combination of not-to-fussy, not too self-indulgent, but with an emphasis on authentic, boozy, TASTY tiki drinks. The atmosphere is a bit vintage, a bit dive, and a bit of intrigue, read: perfect for sipping a plantars punch or a real pina colada. Note: it will not taste like a pina colada from a chain restaurant---rightly so. In context, the food is great. The tacos and lumpia are worth writing home about, and even the hummus (with goat cheese mixed in) is better than is to be expected for this type of joint. Prices on food and booze are very reasonable, especially since the cocktails are hefty. The only two negatives I can think of are (1) that the crowd changes dramatically throughout the course of an evening, and on any particular day. Not to say theres anything wrong with the variety of crowds, but in one sitting you may be in a nice dim cocktail bar with 30-somethings getting off work, sipping and chatting...which transitions to a dive, with scenesters and cool music blasting...and then, to close out the night, you might find yourself in a raging dance party. And (2), parking is a disaster in all of Avondale. We typically walk, but the few times weve driven and tried to park on a Thursday-Saturday it became a headache. Finally, as a suggestion, it would be cool (and I admit a bit fussy) if they had a cool selection of sipping rhums, in addition to the solid cocktail rums and tequilas already available.

I have been to Voodoo at least a half dozen times and it is my favorite bar/lounge in the Avondale area. The bartenders are friendly and quick to serve, and the happy hour deals for both food and drinks are an excellent value! Their tacos and truffled tots are delicious and superior to much of the typical bar food other places offer. Our food has always come out in a reasonable amount of time. Yes, the space can get crowded and can be loud, but that is common to a lot of popular spots. Voodoo is a great place to get together with groups of friends as they have ample seating in their side room, including a few comfy couches and chairs.

So, just because this dive is in a "hip" location, they can justify having a really awful attitude towards the clientele and charge crazy high food and drink prices. Looks like it could be a cool dive if they dropped the attitude, stopped being so pretentious, and lowered the prices immensely

As a resident of little Haiti in Miami I know good voodoo when I see it. These people do their best to run a captivating bar with a delicious menu and generally fine staff especially Truman! As a raging jet setter I say voodoo will put a spell on you. A MUST STOP IN WHEN VISITING CHARLESTON!!

Pretty interesting menu. They had some sort of swing dance class going on which made eating there not that great. Im sure they dont do it every night, but it was pretty terrible to have a 40 year old womans butt if you face while you ate. Also get there early as there is little to no parking.

This place is awesome. I would make it a point to come back here next time I am in Charleston. The duck tacos were amazing. The drinks were awesome. My friend & I ordered mai tais at $10 a pop but then we switched to mojitos, which were only $5 each. They have a live band on some nights.

Voodoo is a cool little bar with some pretty awesome food. The tater tots are so delicious, and the tacos are really, really good. The duck slider is particularly yummy. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends, but they sometimes have salsa classes in their which can be fun to watch.

Food is great. Staff can be assholes or snobby. I either get great service (usually with the servers) or not so great (bartenders and bar backs) Its been hit or miss for me. I get the duck sliders to go, and I am never disappointed with the food.

Another example of how Charleston has bad taste. Voodoo has a mostly subpar staff, the premises could use a good cleaning and an exterminator, and the mixed crowd of aging hipsters and frat boys make this place a joke in my opinion.

CHILL bar! Not obnoxiously busy, but not dead. They bump tunes but not so loud you cant talk to people. Cool crowd there to have fun and not too much douche baggery hitting on. LOVED this bar when I visited Charleston!!
