For dinner, they serve complimentary mango juice and leave a pitcher of ice water on the table so that you dont really run out. They have a buffet, but I usually cant resist ordering from the menu. They ask how spicy you would like your curries, which is nice--and they have the most flavorful Navratan Korma Ive ever tried in my life. I dont know why some of their accompaniments are listed with prices on the menu, because when I tried to order onion chutney for my samosas or to go with the vegetarian platter, they always say "no, no, it comes with it." Perhaps it is an old practice or something only takeout buyers would order extra of, because theyve always given it to us at no additional charge. Honestly, this is the only place Ive ever had a curry that wasnt too bland for my tastes. I usually have to order takeout Indian so I can flavor it more at home without doing too much work, but Ive eaten in at Sitar twice and loved it both times. They definitely oblige requests.

Best blend of spice among the University City Indian restaurants; most vegetarian friendly. Sitar offers the most complex tasting Indian food out of the four Indian restaurants near by that all have similar menus and buffets. From chutney to curry Sitar makes sure spices are ample but not overdone and well blended. I love their saag. Sitar offers the best buffet menu for vegetarians among the UC Indian restaurants. Meat lovers may have preferred Tandors grilled meats, but Tandors now gone so it puts Sitar at top. If you are new to Indian cuisine you may want to try New Delhi for less spicy dishes, and if you also want middle eastern dishes you could try Tarka. However if youre going for a solid Indian experience Sitar will be the best choice in the area.

People in Philly dont understand what quality food is. I just finished skimming through Tandoors reviews and several of them were negative saying that the food was "awful" and they cant believe theyve been in business. I honestly have to say I wish there was a zero star option for this(Sitar) restaurant. Sitars food is horrendous. Who the heck eats there and calls it food? Whoever said low budget but in a positive way was only right about the low budget part as far as quality goes. Some of it was too salty, and the samosas(one of my favorite appetizers) tasted like they were warmed up in a microwave and half-assed. Blah, save your money and time and go to Tandoor. If not, go to Passage to India(which is definitely pricier, but its worth every penny).

I would honestly give 0 stars if I could. Ive been here before and before today I would have rated at least 2-3 stars for the general quality of the food. But today the service was horrendous. One glance around the resturaunt, you see that everyone was unhappy. I dont understand why 2 workers are in charge of every table in the resturaunt. Even worse, we ended up leaving after a 20 minute wait when we were told 5 minutes. I absolutely lost it when another party with the same amount of members that just walked in got a seat right away. If you care about your overall experience at a resturaunt I strongly discourage coming here. There are plenty of Indian buffets around the area with better service than this sad excuse for a resturaunt.

No star. Horrible. Had a sweet tooth craving after a long time. I just got the badam kheer. It was horrible. Just boiled rice in milk. Hard rice, No almonds, no saffron. Was the worse thing I ever had. If you dont have it say directly you dont have it. Dont prepare something horrible and give it and fool us. I have the picture below too. See what you have on y our website and what you show. Had the ras malai too. It was not up to the mark nor it was sweet. No saffron, nor the malai was smooth. Rough course thing. Waste of time and money. I usually dont leave bad reviews but you pissed me off!! In ten minutes of receiving the parcel I have commented and thrown it to dumps.

I went to this place for lunch with my family on July 5 at about 2.40 PM, because we were told that the lunch hour was upto 4.00 PM. There was no goat curry available when we started. This was one of the favourite indian curry. I repeatedly requested for refill, and there was always the same answer " It is on the stove". No one looked like apologetic in their attitude. After waiting about half an hour , when a little goat curry was supplied I already lost my mood for it. I think the attendants and the superviser should be more courteous and polite for their inability.

Best Indian restaurant. staff is so kind, ambience is good. price is cheap and food is awesome. its more worth for the price, i got a student discount 10% and extra 5% for paying by cash. biriyani and chicken items were stupendous. my wife is a veg and she said veg dishes were too good . my only suggestion is it could have been more spicy, i personally love very hot spicy food. i would strongly recommend this place for my friends and those who desire to eat good indian food for a cheap price.

Best Indian BYO in University City. The buffet has a great selection and is restocked constantly. They have many options for both vegetarians and meat eaters alike. If you are looking to get some food and hang out with a bottle of wine or a few beers, then this is the place to go. WARNING: Try not to eat too much if you are drinking. There were too many times where I went there and ate two plates without being able to finish my alcohol!

They are super accommodating with groups. Walkin is ok. U can def call ahead but not necessary. The buffet is crazy good! Every option is great! Great vegetarian options, not vegan tho. They have a salad side of the buffet too and a chickpea grill! Idk if thats what its called. And unlimited mango juice. They also have a beer menu and a regular menu if youre not doin buffet. Do the buffet.

A beautiful Indian restaurant on 40th and chestnut in university city with close proximity to penn. The food and ambience is really nice. A little mild to the tongue for a person who cherishes spice and fire so make sure u ask for extra spicy if u are into that. Theres a straight 5% discount if u pay cash and further 10% but only on the buffets if u are a penn student. closed on Tuesdays.

Cheap but excellent all you can eat Indian food! The food tasted authentic and there are food labels as well (gluten-free, vegetarian etc.). They got bottled beer too. Try to come here at 11.30 to avoid peak service time at 12-12.30 which you will probably have to wait (or come just after lunch time). You get a free meal after you visit here 10 times.

The service is really good but the food is very mediocre. Maybe I just went on a bad day or a bad time or Im an Indian food snob and just cant take buffet style. The naan was dry, the selection was incredibly lacking, and all the pieces of chicken I got in the biryani and tikka masala were dry and full of bones. It was all just really disappointing.
