My friend and I arrived at Fuji Mountain for an early dinner around 5 pm. The dim-lighted restaurant had a quiet and intimate atmosphere, with many booths and two-person tables. After we were given wet towels (which I appreciated) and iced water by the kimono-clad server, we dove into the menu. The extensive menu had many options to choose from, with lists of hot and cold appetizers, kitchen entrees, noodles, sushi, and donburi (rice with cooked meat, fish, or vegetables on top). My copycat companion and I ordered pork katsudon ($14), donburi with fried cutlets, which was served with salad and miso soup. The restaurant was generous with the soup, served in a regular rice-bowl-sized bowl, as most complimentary miso soup comes in cups or small bowls in other Japanese restaurants. It was particularly welcome, as we had been walking around the cold windy streets. It was slightly milder than most other miso soup I had tasted; the miso flavour was not as strong, but it was not in any way bland. It had a sweet aftertaste, and was the perfect companion to the salad. The salad was in a similar-sized bowl, with mixed greens, lettuce, three slices of cucumber, and thinly sliced carrots, topped with ginger carrot sauce with a tinge of miso flavour. The ginger sauce was excellent and was just the right amount. Soon after we finished the crisp all-vegetable salad, the server brought out the katsudon. It had steaming rice topped with strips of lightly fried pork, softly-cooked egg, thin shreds of seaweed, and three small slices of sweet pickled radish. The onion, the pork, and the moist white rice left a bit of sweetness in my mouth, and the radish accented that. I liked the mix of sweet, tangy and crunchy radish with the rice and meat, but my friend said it would have been better if it came as a side. The price range for a dinner dish is $10 to $27. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied, and promised myself that I would try the sushi next time and take advantage of the Karaoke they have on their 3rd and 4th floors (try the bar if you are 21 or up). The one tiny complaint I have about Fuji Mountain is their chopsticks. Their edges were simply too sharp for a comfortable grip. --Emily Yoon

I had gone to Fuji Mountain on a Friday night for sushi with friends and it was DELICIOUS! The spicy scallop roll was amazing and so was the spider roll- yummy! Remembering this experience, I ordered take out this past weekend and picked it up myself (since its only a few blocks away). I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and the spider roll- both were HORRIBLE! The roll was cut into pieces too large, which made it very messy to eat. I remember the portion size (the amount of pieces) to be much greater when I dined-in... maybe becasue they cut them so large it didnt seem the same. All in all, their sushi is okay. I would reccomend dining in though.... their takeout just isnt the same- obviously they dont care about people who arent eating in house.

Incredible service and high-quality sushi/Japanese cuisine at very reasonable prices. My fiance and I recently utilized a gift certificate that I received for my birthday. I arrived first, and was promptly seated while our server offered me a drink while I waited (I opted for a Kirin Ichiban). We samples two of their salads, their Miso soup, a DELICIOUS tuna/yellowtail carpaccio, a sashimi platter, Chicken over eggplant and Japanese ice cream for dessert. There wasnt a single item that I tried during the course of our meal that didnt absolutely blow me away. The ambiance and decor was reminiscent of a Japanese tea-house with the sushi bar up front and dining in the back. Definitely going again.

I went here on a date last night. While the restaurants atmosphere and staff were excellent, for around $25 per person I wasnt super pleased with the food. I had the yuzu chicken and my date had the teriyaki, and neither of us were necessarily impressed with the flavors of the food. Mine was on the dry side actually, though not like it had been sitting under a heat lamp or in a warming drawer, as our meals were brought out almost instantly after they took our salad and appetizer plates away! unfortunately I cant speak to the quality of the sushi, though I cant help but feel we would have been more impressed with the restaurant had we stuck to sushi!

The menu is varied but the food is underwhelming and overpriced. We wanted to try it out for restaurant week but at 3pm they only offered the more expensive dinner menu (despite no notice on the website and dinner time starting at 5pm and even after we left a note in our OpenTable reservation about it). The appetizers were not bad but Chinatown-standard. The kinoko soup was probably the only salvageable. My roll was just OK and my girlfriend complained that a piece in her "premium" sashimi was still frozen (see pictures). The restaurant looks dated and could use some dusting. The service was OK but slow given the place was almost empty.

Fuji Mountain is a well known quantity in terms of Philadelphia sushi offerings. The sushi chefs here are top notch, consistently providing masterful preparation and stunning presentation. Sake here is also reasonable for those interested. I tend to come here with business associates in a group of eight or so, and we have always had an incredibly positive experience. I would highly recommend Fuji Mountain when looking for a place to bring a group from out of town -- or if you are just looking for a nice quiet place for two, you cant go wrong.

One Word: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! My cousin and I came from Jersey took check this resturant out and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, the ambiance was clean and beautiful, the staff was courteous, the manager, Shawn, was very pleasant and he did a great job at hosting us. I highly recommend for you to try their plum wine coupled with the banana anamymi.

The Karaoke rooms here are absolutely fantastic, being able to hold 20 people comfortably and offering a wide variety of songs. They can bring you sake bottles or warm sake in kettles along with beer to do sake bombs as you do your karaoke. The place is open till 2 am and is absolutely worth your money even though it is a little pricey.

For the Japanese retaurant it was a disappointment. The waiter was nice and pleasant, but the atmosphere was noisy to the point you could not have a conversation. Could not find my favorite kani salad on the menu. Had to leave and find a quieter place. I wished they fixed that disposal in the kithcen that was making that awful noise!!

LIES! I wish i could rate the restaurant, but I didnt bother going after calling. Their website advertises ANAGO (SEA eel) on the menu. I called and they do not have it and do not carry it! Im so glad I called before wasting the time going there to experience great eel and finding out it was just false advertising!

Tempra Soba that we (Japanese family) ordered is not recommended. The tempra was ok, but the dipping source tasted just like sterilization water that dentist gives you when you need to gargle. If the owner of the restaurant were Japanese, the food should not be that way.
