We had our first consultant visit last night and it was horrible. She was extremely rude. We had plenty of questions from where meats come from manufacturer etc and she would not answer any of them. Just kept telling us its all natural and organic. Which we buy local anyway since our son has a disability. When I mean rude, thats putting it mildly. I had to get up multiple times to help my son and the one time she said "well she isnt listening anyway, whatever" I heard that and I came back and I said you say that again and there is the front door. She kept on talking about the organic etc and still not answering our questions. She asked us to make the two hamburger patties, which meant thawing in microwave while she was there so we could try them. Well my husband cooks, and if anyone cooks properly you dont thaw things in microwave. Well she rolled her eyes when we said no were not making them now because there is only 2 of them and we have right now we have all 4 in the house. So what should we do with the 2 children? She didnt seem to care about the children that were in the other room. She kept pushing about the organic, which we buy anyway. I told her I looked the complaints under the BBB, and she was furious and said she had no idea what I was talking about and that they didnt mean anything because the business has been around for over 20 years and rolled her eyes. I even said a new complaint came up last week, well she didnt care and still kept talking about the organic. She came up with our meal plan and it would be $75/week just for the meat. We spend that a week and get everything including sides, usda prime, all natural meat, organic vegetables, drinks. So why spend $75/week on just meat for 3 people when our oldest isnt home from college. Then she tried selling us a warranty on our deep freezer and have to pay for it for 2 years. We already have purchased extended warranty that covers food etc, why pay for another warranty. She didnt like that either. She was so rude, obnoxious I couldnt wait for her to leave. Then the free food, that was a joke. The two steaks, they are so small, my oldest son can eat both of them himself, and she said that is 2 portions, well not for this family even if my oldest is home from college. The 2 pork chops, even smaller yet, my youngest could eat them. So definitely not worth buying just portion size because to them weight doesnt matter. But it does for this family or you will be hungry an hour later. So we cant afford $75/week just for meat and then go to the store anyway and buy all the other stuff anyway, not worth it. We buy usda prime meat or even all natural meat, organic vegetables anyway so we know what the different kind of meats/non organic/organic etc are, she didnt need to tell us. Plus we know exactly where our meat comes from, all she said was Midwest, not telling us anything else. Thats not saying a whole lot. Considering when looking at the packaging anyone can stick the label on, which they did that has five star home foods etc on it. Just not saying from where. Then tried selling us a warranty on our deep freezer for 2 years. Why pay for a warranty when we bought a extended warranty that does cover our food etc if anything happens to it anyway. So why spend more money on another warranty on our freezer. She was harsh, wouldnt let us see the paperwork unless we signed the contract, so we refused to sign anything. She was pissed and said "oh great, I get paid by commission only". I dont care, but I pity the other customers she has because she was very rude. So Im never calling this place again, if they cant find honest consultants to answer the questions, they can find business elsewhere.

7/2014: Hello. I wanted to take a quick moment let you prospective customers know that this company routine violates the National Do Not Call Registry. The registry has been in place since the 2000s, and the company continues to telemarket to customers who are registered and have indicated they are on it. When accused of violating the Do Not Call list, they sheepishly say, well your number isnt on our list from the FTC. Yeah, right.
If they are so hard up for business that they will violate a nationally implemented registry designed to protect the rights and privacy of the people who have taken the time to register with the Federal Trade Commission, how do you think they are going to treat you as a customer? Think about it.
7/2015: Can you BELIEVE it? They are at it again! They just called me again with the same baloney as last year about how my number isnt on the FTC list. Potential customers: PLEASE do yourself a favor and read the reviews on Google before entering a contract with this company. Shady customer service practices prevail and a number of the Google reviews are anonymous and could easily be fake reviews to make them look better.

We did not go through with this after several misrepresentations were made during the sales pitch. We were told the food was natural (it is not) and raised healthily (at least the chicken is not.) I looked up the suppliers during the presentation and every time with every name I confirmed a CAFO (factory farm) complete with EPA violations. At this point, they would change the name. This also occurred during two subsequent phone calls. The fish processing they describe is consistent with factory ships, so the wild caught fish they describe are probably not being obtained through sustainable and responsible fishing. A third subsequent phone call confirmed the chickens are not organic but are healthy -- not true if it is a CAFO. (CAFOs raise chickens in horrendous inhumane and unhealthy conditions, often polluting the air and water around them -- hench the EPA violations.) The "natural food, which is implied on the website to come from Washington state -- actually comes from Ecuador. If you are going for convenience, fine. If you are going for organic, humane and sustainable -- dont be fooled by their sales pitch. Do the research.

Some of the reviews here are rather shocking. Five Star might be the best kept secret in the Delaware Valley. We had never heard of them, but were referred by our neighbor. I actually wonder if it is grocery stores leaving 1 star reviews. Reason being, we have had this service for 6 years now...and we love it! Everything comes to us delivered, individually wrapped, and every order has been consistantly high quality. What we like most is how the foods are natural and organic...and they guarantee we will like it or it is credited. We once had a food spoilage (power failure) and they replaced all our foods at no cost to us. I was shocked. We could not be happier. Now, is Five Star costing us more than a grocery store? Probably slightly higher for the food quality, but I do not spend much time at the store anymore, and I do not walk into the store for meats and veggies and walk out with a ton of other stuff like we do not need-like I use to. That saves us money. We would never go back to shopping for our meats products at a grocery store.
