SIMPLY AMAZING!!!! By far the best breakfast/lunch spot in Salem! The ambiance is very inviting, from the positive word art on the walls to the follow no rules coolness running though the entire place. Aside from the crazy cool decor and comfortable seating lets talk about the food and service! Service: This is the only place I have been to on MANY occasions where the staff is ALWAYS at 100%. As busy as this place can be (for obvious reasons) the staff will still make your dining experience like no other. I have been to maybe just about every restaurant in Salem, and I would say 99% of them STILL lag in GREAT customer service.....sadly. The manager of this restaurant and the staff are always all smiles and attentive to their tables, even the tables that are not in their "section"...YEA I KNOW unheard of in customer service these days! Certainly plan ahead time wise and be prepared for a great dining experience. The owners are very behind the scenes as they are the ones doing most of the cooking, you can tell they love their customers when you see the plate of LOVE (literally at times...its on the menu) that arrives at your table! Ok...on to the food: Where do I even start?!?! The Turkey Burger is one of my favorites, and not only because it has been approved by Oprah herself...but because the way it all come together is truly heaven on a plate! I am usually an all beef burger kind of guy, but one day I tried the Turkey Burger - and VOILA...I am hooked! Something about the chutney, apples, chipotle, lemon zest that takes it to a whole nutha level! Dont get me wrong the regular burgers are great as well, but for the love of every thing holy in this world you MUST try the Turkey Burger too! I truly love everything on the menu, but to start I would recommend a few of my favorites...then once you have seen the unicorns you can move on to other items :) 1. Cinnacake 2. Turkey Burger 3. Biscuits & Gravy!!! 4. Veggie Burger 5. Pot Roast Hash!!! 6. Veggie Hash 7...ok you get the point...just go and experience the food for yourself and you will be hooked! I know you might have a wait but that is a great time to chat with your friends and "catch up", because once your food comes to your table I promise you are not going to be doing much talking..... until you are done licking your fingers! Enjoy!

Word of Mouth, is more than just a great place to eat, it is an amazing experience, with both the service, and the decor. The restaurant is set inside a remodeled home, and it feels like you are coming home when you walk through the door. The walls are covered in fun paintings, coverings, and homey items, ranging from food, to dogs, to robots. The service has always been spot on, very attentive staff who know the menu inside and out, I have never been left wanting for refills on water, or offers of more syrups, jams or jellies. Staff is always friendly and fun, even when the place is extremely busy (which it almost always is) The food.... I could talk about the food for days, but a few of the main points would center around breakfast. The Chicken Fried Filet Mignon may seem like a waste of a perfectly good steak, but its melt in your mouth savor and mix of textures warms your heart and stomach, and fills both as well. The greatest item on the menu in my personal opinion, is the Incredible Flying Biscuit.. It is exactly as it sounds, a breakfast sandwich that no one can wrap their mouth or mind around. The perfect thing for those who love all things breakfast, with egg, chicken fried meat, bacon, gravy, cheese, and a whole lot of love. Big enough for two people to share, but I have never tried. The only downside of this wonderful place can be its wait times. Ranging from 30 mins to and hour and a half, often from open till close, this can be difficult for people looking for a quick bite. However, the staff has many ways of communicating for those who wish to wait. The main system is their ability to text you when your table is 15-20mins ready, so you can leave the Bistro, leave the area, even go home if it is close, and wait comfortably for the text to return. There is also a doughnut shop across the street, local and great, that has coffee and treats for a fun wait. I would say that this is a great place to visit for anyone visiting salem, or that has lived here forever, 10/10 every time I have gone. PS Their take-out is every bit as good as the food you get if you wait.

Im honestly getting tired of the hype surrounding this place, I walk my dog by this restaurant on a frequent basis and regardless of the day it is literally busy all the time.I understand this would usually indicate that the place is phenomenally good but I really dont understand how it is popular enough to be packed pretty much all the time. While I am genuinely happy for all the success the owners are having, the food isnt anything new or interesting, Ive eaten here more than once and while the food isnt bad its not something I would rave about to everyone I know. It is normal breakfast foods and lunch fare but nothing more. I feel like this place is popular because its been hyped up that way by young adults who all feel they must follow along with the craze. Maybe Im just irritated at the sheeple of my generation or by the fact that Salem is so lacking in every way that we Salem dwellers are amazed by yet another american style brunch restaurant. Congratulations to everyone who took a picture of their meal or even worse, a gratuitous selfie so they could make sure all their friends knew they were at that restaurant everyone has been raving at. SO cool.

Since moving from Seattle, Salem offers few places that wouldnt be considered dives/2 stars there. Down here they might be considered 4 stars. I ate at Word of Mouth today and came to the same conclusion as the last time, I had somejow girgotten but I think the year in between aided that. I would give it a one star. I almost gave it a two star for the service is consistently top notch and the ambience is wonderful. At the end of my meal though, is rather be in a not so cute place and have eaten better food. (My question, do I want to eat it again?) I ordered eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. They do have tons of great sounding dishes but the flaw with the four things Ive personally eaten were they were loaded with fat, salt and the portions are huge. Dont get me wrong, Im a fan of good flavor and you in my opinion, need fat to accomplish That- thats not the deal but rather the dishes are simply unbalanced and seem to be for people who dont need good flavor (quality) but rather quantity. I felt like throwing up and I only ate a few bites of my plate. I was surprised by how full I felt..

We brought out-of-state relatives to Word of Mouth this morning and they raved about the great food and service. As always, the food and service was outstanding.and as usual the staff was one step ahead of our wants. Kelsi Jo brought us coffee while we waited for our table, Julia stopped by for a quick visit and refills and our primary server, Rachel was amazing, absolutely amazing. We were a party of ten with young children and adults that asked and got tweaks to their order. Before I could tell the parents that WOM had crayons, Rachel was at our table handing the kids crayons and showing them the various coloring sheets. Chocolate milk refills and coffee refills all flowed seamlessly. WOM has delicious and creative dishes but it is the wonderful and caring staff that makes WOM a great restaurant with such a special warm and welcoming ambiance. Word of Mouth ROCKS!!
