This restaurant recently had a kitchen fire and went thru a remodel which was seriously needed. Many years ago this was the only Indian restaurant in Salem and it was very tasty ... but as the years went by the food quality declined and the restaurant became very run-down, dirty and hence we stopped going. Prior to the fire it was very dirty and cluttered with boxes stacked up in the windows, unclean booths, and food on the carpet. Since the remodel everything appears new and clean (I hope it stays clean!). We had vowed never to return a few years ago because we had a bad experience with getting very sick after eating there - but because of some new positive reviews, our love of Indian food, and lack of decent Indian restaurant choices in Salem (never ever go to Star of India), we decided to risk it and hit the lunch buffet for another try. The Saag Paneer was delicious; the Vegetable Korma sauce was flavorful but the veggies were a frozen mix which affected the overall flavor of the dish; the rice was bland and the tandoori chicken was a bit dry. We went right during the middle of the lunch hour and there was no wait time for seating, the food was well stocked and overall the food was pretty tasty. We would have preferred the temperature of the food to be a bit warmer (temp wise not spice wise), and perhaps they should consider adding another entree to the buffet selection for variety. All in all, if we go back for the buffet, we will view the selection prior to seating. I wish I could say that Ive found a terrific Indian restaurant in Salem however there is still some room for improvement, but I do think we will give them a try for dinner which may resolve some of the issues we had.

Perfect for a rainy day. This is only our second Indian restaurant that weve tried in Salem. My measuring stick comes from living in Portland years ago and eating at Swagats so in comparison India Palace faired as a very good on food. They had less variety and instead of using the Indian names I will describe the food by main ingredient. The eggplant dish was our favorite, it was spicy and the flavors were bright. The spinach dish was not bad. The tandoori chicken was good and recommended. The chicken dish was ok with the mixed vegetable dish being my least favorite. I really like the naan bread dipped in the hot sauce which was colorful and had clear bright flavors. The mint dip was my second favorite. The yogurt dip was OK (Raita). The cold sweet carrot dish was excellent, a new one for me, the rice desert was OK. As has been mentioned in other reviews the decor is dated but the restaurant food area, table area and restrooms were clean. Both of the hostesses were very hospitable, quick and helpful. We will go again.

Some of the best Indian food Ive had. Anytime, anywhere. And I seek out Indian food wherever I travel. I dont usually order papadam and chutneys, but Im so glad I did so here. The chutneys were so fresh and thick with mint and tamarind. The veggie korma was just as fresh, fragrant and flavorful. Even the naan and kheer were distinct, with the tasty garlic naan buttery yet not greasy and the kheer thick, creamy and bursting with cardamom. The price is right too! I cant wait to check out their lunch buffet, held daily from 11am to 3pm. India Palace will become a staple for me here in Salem no doubt!

Washroom, sitting area clean spotless and smelt Good. Its the first things I look at, to understand the place of business. Very good customer service, didn’t have any issues ordering food, food prep areas were clean, and no major reason for concern. Customer service was polite, from taking the order to picking up food, and then sitting and eating. Will def visit again without hesitation!!

Stay away from the Buffet. Its preety gross, but, if you order the Indian food from the regular menu, you wont be dissapointed. I like the garlic naan, dal. Its really good. the Indian restaurants in Potland & Beaverton are much better. But, if you need something "spicy" &"curry like", order from the regular menu & you wont be dissapointed. The place does need a facelift though.

Im privileged to have traveled extensively in the major US cities, abroad in Europe, Mexico and Central America and I can say this restaurant can compete. I especially appreciate the wide variety of dishes prepared daily. Ive been eating here since 1994 as regularly as I can and Ive never tired of their expertise in preparation and varity. Good job India Palace!!!

Best Indian authentic food anywhere! No other places compare. Ive been coming here for years now and will never change. My favorite is chicken tikka masala and there special Navrattan korma, always order extra because there wont be any left overs for the next day, and youll want them! Wonderful service, love the sweet ladies that work there.

We have experienced Indian from many different places - Chicago, the UK, and India! We are visiting for the Junior Olympics. The food here was very very good. , We had beef curry, chicken vindaloo, and vegetable kafta kashmir with naan, pickle and raita. Loved it all. "Spicy" is medium so ask for extra spicy if you really like it hot.

Came to the "all you can eat buffet". There selection is limited, but pretty enjoyable. The food was flavorful without being spicy. Except the rice, which was unfortunately pretty tasteless. The environment was friendly and the background music was a comfortable volume. The chai tea was a little watered down, but still ok.

Im a little disappointed this time. We went for the lunch buffet. The rice was hard and the kheer tasted sour, like spoiled. The buffet items were very picked thru. We waited for the refill of food on the buffet line since we hardly had options when we initially went. It took so long we decided to just leave.

The food was okay, though I know I couldve made the same quality meal at home. What really bugged me was the portion size for the price. I finished my meal in less than 3 minutes, and the entire bill was $25. Also, they are pretty stingy with charging for every little thing they possibly can. Slow service.

Ordered a veggie samosa, veggie biriyani and chicken biriyani to-go. The samosa were too oily. Both the biriyanis had no taste whatsoever and were also oily. No salt, no taste, it just felt like eating white rice with some color added. No raitha provided either... Would not recommend this place

Went to eat dinner 2 days ago. Food was delicious. Chole Potato was one of the best I have had. Reasonable price for quality food. Went back there today for lunch buffet today and it was very busy. Food quality and service was the best. Highly recommended. Go try it out for yourself.

Indian food is my favorite cuisine. I have eaten at many Indian restaurants of course. The food here is among the best. I have noticed lower reviews and my guess they are based on the buffet. I believe dinner is the best meal to judge. My wife and I completely enjoyed ours.

Inconsistent. Sometimes its good, other times its awful. Also, really sick of this place varying its hours any given day. Online it says 10. some days they say 9:30, some its 9.... What kind of a business varies their hours completely at will? Just abysmal etiquette.
