Went here for the first time recently, but had been wanting to check it out for a while. I was not disappointed. We tried both the Tokyo and Sapporo ramen, a salmon & avocado handroll, and a yuzu chuhai cocktail. Everything was great. The ramen could have been a little more loaded (I imagine the full portion has more toppings), and I would have loved to see some sesame seeds at the tables to add to it. I preferred the Sapporo ramen, and I think next time Ill ask for an egg in it. The pork was a little too thickly cut for my liking, but had great flavor. We went late (around 9:45pm on a Friday night) and enjoyed their very reasonably-priced late night happy hour food specials, and I would love to go back and sample more (like the bacon-wrapped quail egg skewers). The sushi roll was fresh and flavorful, and the cocktail was refreshingly tart. They were very busy all the way up to closing, and though our server was stretched thin, our food came out very quickly (since ramen is considered a fast food in Japan, its only fitting that they should sling those bowls quickly). As far as ambiance goes, the place had a really charming izakaya feel. Overall, Id say it sates my craving for authentic ramen, but still cant hold a candle to the real thing. That being said, I would still love to make this place a staple eatery in my life!

Had a reservation yesterday and were sat 20 minutes after which I understood. Ordered pot stickers as an appetizer and that came 40 minutes later our server didnt check on us during those 40 minutes we spoke to someone about our order and she took care of bringing our appetizer to us.. my guest had salmon that came out with the pot stickers as well. My order was ramen soup and a sushi roll. We got the attention of our server asked about the ramen he said it will come out when it does I said its been over 50 minutes and he said when its ready Ill bring it out to you. Sushi rolls came an hour later then the ramen right after by that time my guest was almost done with their food. It was one of my favorite places to go and my friend came down to visit from Albany and I chose to go eat there because of the good food and service but after last night I wont be going there anymore.

I went there for lunch. My favorite dishes were skewers of okra and bacon-wrapped quail eggs. The eggs melted in my mouth. I also enjoyed the burdock salad, (a lot better than it sounds) and the "spicy" fried calamari, which was tender and delicious. I would go for the food alone, but ladies be sure to check out the pimped out bathroom. The toilet seat is heated, and the more adventurous-than-I can opt for some fancy water works. There was a beautiful basket of eucalyptus and dried flowers, a nice TV, and the sinks had mysterious jelly globes in them. It was easily the fanciest, best-smelling bathroom I have ever been to. Sorry guys, according to my husband, your version only has a fancy toilet, a TV, and a funny sign over the urinal.

Ive been in on busy days and on slow days, no matter what it takes awhile for your order to be taken and your food to be served, so if youre in a rush, best skip this place. Also, youll probably have to remind one of the several servers who will serve you to bring any extras that come with your meal like soup. The recipes are not super consistent, you make order a meal one week and return the next week to find entirely different ingredients included. That said, theres a reason I keep coming back, the food is great! Also the decor is pretty cute, but thats not that important. So basically if you have the time to sparr and dont mind little changes here and there its well worth a try.

WORST SERVICE EVER! This place deserves ZERO stars After we were seated we had to ask to order because no one came to us for 20 minutes. After we ordered, we never got our food. We asked to cancel our entire order after waiting for about 30-40 minutes and paid for our beer and tea which should have just been comped. The people next to us came after us but had about 5 dishes with them. After asking to cancel the order due to the slow service not one person apologized. I will NEVER come here again. The servers dont give a $#!* about you. Whoever the manager is of this place needs to seriously check their staff.

Every time has been amazing! I have been twice for happy hour, and once for dinner - and each time the staff, food, and ambiance is stellar! Prices are fair - and portions are substantial especially during the happy hour. This place is a jewel amongst the other overpriced, overrated spots on Division (ahem Sen Yai). The service is always top notch, example: my waiter happily hummed the Jurassic Park theme as he brought the huge (1 Liter) Sapporo beer can that I ordered. I will always recommend Maru! Takoyaki is close to the real thing and definitely the best Ive had stateside.

I live a few blocks from here and have been coming for years. In the last 12 months, aside from the menu shrinking, the service has dropped considerably. I am constantly waiting for someone to take my order or bring me the check. Im here right now, the place is about half full and I see nobody taking orders - the table next to me just asked the bus boy if they were actually closed. Oh wait, hold on, here comes someone... ... ... Aaaaand theyre out of the only thing I wanted. Awesome. Its 2pm. Im leaving.

We ate here in March 2015 and it was superb. Within minutes we had 3 separate servers greet us to ensure we had been taken care of. Service was quick and friendly server was very knowledgeable of the menu. The food was very reasonably priced with ample servings. We had the chicken karaage and it was amazing. It was served with a cabbage and arugula salad with a creamy dressing that was delicious. The rice & green tea complimented the meal perfectly. Will definitely be back!

I ordered the chicken katsu curry. The curry was genuinely delicious. The chicken cutlet was not. How does one mess up fried chicken? It was so tough, it literally felt like someone told the meat fibers to pretend to be cartilage. I brought it up to our server and they had the manager take off $3 (cost of the cutlet). Service seemed confused and busy, food came at odd times, and one dish seemingly had evaporated until we asked about it. Next time, Im going to Koji.

Our dinning experience at Yataimura Maru made for a special and memorable New Years Eve. Yataimura Maru featured a delicious tempura soba as a holiday dinner special, which I have on good authority to be an authentic New Years Eve tradition in Japan. Compared to most Japanese restaurants, Yataimura Maru has a more contemporary interior design, and our servers and chefs exuded a welcoming affability that made our evening all the more enjoyable.

Server made a mistake and his manager refused to refund my order because I "already ate it". I ordered a happy hour ramen (supposed to be $5) and I was charged for the full size $12 ramen. It was clearly the servers mistake, and when i asked to speak with the manager, he didnt even come to the table and still only refunded me $4. Ramen was pretty good. But worst management Ive dealt with in a city with usually good service.
