I NEVER BOTHER LEAVING A REVIEW FOR ANY RESTAURANTS, EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT SO GOOD, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST ONE I MUST LEAVE A COMMENT ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So that was my first time to go to this Hot Pot City. I did not know how the store works... but when I entered the store, I saw 3 empty desks, and a few people sitting around. My friends and I saw the "waiting" sign. At first, we want to ask the waiters if we should get a ticket to wait or what. We waved at them, but no one replied. They just saw us, and turned away. POOR SERVICE. We tried to call on them for several more times, but same thing happened. So, we decided to get a table ourselves, since there are three empty tables. Then, still, no waiter came to us. They just stared at us. Two of my friends directly approached one of the waiter, and ask her if she can serve us, but she started to be talking really rude. IF she talked to us nicely and told us earlier that we should sign up on a paper on their desk, we would gladly do so. HOWEVER, that two waiters said nothing to welcome us or did anything to inform us. They then started to blame on us and shout at us. THIS is so ridiculous and rude. My friends and I ended up shouting them back and just left the store. We traveled a long way to go to the store and we got "THIS" kind of poor service. THEY TOLD US TO LEAVE IF WE DIDNT WANT TO WAIT. BUT THE POINT IS... WE WILL WAIT IF THEY TOLD US EARLIER OF WHAT WE SHOULD DO IN ORDER TO BE IN THE QUEUE. WTH?!?!I WILL NEVER GO AGAIN.When we told this prb to my frds relative, who lives around Portland, they also said that they only went there for once, and never go again because of the poor service.IF THEIR STORE OPENS IN HK, THEY CANT EVEN SURVIVE FOR A MONTH!!!!THEY WILL BE CLOSE DUE TO WHOLE BUNCH OF COMPLAINTS!!!SO MY ADVICE:NEVER GO TO THIS STORE AGAIN!

I wasnt impressed, particularly for the how expensive it is. There is another place around, go there instead.. Its dirty, and I mean really dirty. Do yourself a favor, and dont even go into the bathroom. Flies. Food was relatively fresh at some parts of the buffet, but not appetizing in the slightest. It seemed unsanitary at some points. Im surprised that I didnt get sick. Their whole tong setup is really dangerous. None of the tongs are for a particular dish, so be sure to cook EVERYTHING, and wash your hands as soon as you can. (Just dont use their bathroom!) The bowls, plates, and all the silverware made me feel like I was eating out of a childs bowl. Too small and old, cheap plastic. I wouldnt normally complain about that, but it really was that noticeable. Im not kidding when I say kiddie bowls, I felt like I needed a sippy cup to go with it. Far too expensive for what you get. The food is just not THAT good, no matter how you mix it up. I cant even see it remotely affordable for regular lunch, when you could grab Pho for 20-30% less $ nearby. Service? Well, the waiter provided both good and bad. Yes, he was very informative, but he made some comments that really made me cringe. I only gave an extra star for the great service that I did receive, because thats really, really important to me.

Okay, Hot Pot is not exactly soup, but I love this place, and I finish ALL the delicious broth, just like the best possible soup! This is the best place on a cold wet Oregon liquid sunshine summer day! Most complaints I read are the entitled high maintenance whiners who should F#$% off. There is minimal service but DUH! Self serve buffet! Some cannot grasp the concept. There is a bathroom, just small and not so obvious. Hot Pot City is small and basic, and not meant for high maintenance customers who need pampering and do not (are not able to) understand the reality of low cost hot pot. Go somewhere else if your self-absorbed needs are high. I have always had a good experience here and will continue to patronize Hot Pot City because it is what I like. Low maintenance, low cost, good healthy food. No place better on a cold wet day for me. Staffing is minimal to keep costs down, but service is adequate, (except for posers), and friendly if you are. I just went again yesterday.

Excellent!! I love the freshness and the fun of selecting and building a custom soup of great value and quality. The tasty variety of sauces, vegetables, noodles, seafood, and meats make this a wonderful "All-You-Can-Eat" buffet; very healthy. I enjoyed the friendliness of the staff, and the location is very convenient. The cleanliness is exceptional, and the atmosphere is tranquil, with a warm, hospitable charm. Theres no rush, and the replenishment of items often rotates a wide variety of seafood items, so the choice is very generous offering of oyster, calamari, shrimp, little-neck clams, fish, mock-crab, quality sliced beef & pork, chicken, fresh Tofu, fried Tofu, and many scrumptious vegetables. The Ginger & Garlic pure is very fresh and zesty. The drink fountain is clean, and has no taste of cleaning agent, as it should always be. A very modest crowd of happy people seem to find their way here, and I am always a happy return customer. Service is fast and attentive.

Overall, this was a fun place to go with group of people for an impromptu birthday celebration. The service was a bit mixed, but overall nothing horrible. The food was decent, though not as magnificent as I was hoping for. Some of it just tasted like it had been stored frozen. I was disappointed to have gone back for seconds (specifically for a fried won-ton-like dumpling, and more beef) and they had run out of both, and other items were in their place. On one hand, this is nice because you can try more things, but disappointing when you want more of something! Only three credit cards per party. You all share a hot pot of boiling soup broth water. And beware, they charge $10/lb of wasted food! Sidenote: there is some type of small gym right across the walkway going through the two buildings. It was dark when we were there, so it was interesting seeing people work out as we stuffed our faces! Overall, I would still go back here. The value was definitely a good deal.

Sorry, but I didnt find Hot Pot City to be all that hot. Yes theres a decent selection of ingredients, and yes its all-you-can-eat, but......the AYCE part only holds-out as long as the broth does. Once your little pot goes dry, youre done...and this is a $16.00 bowl of soup were talking about! For my wife, the portion was fine. For me? Not so much. I actually made myself a burrito when I got home! The place definitely has a cafeteria vibe to it, and could stand a little decontamination. As far as the service goes; you cant really comment on something you never received...can you? If youre looking for Oriental soup in southwest Downtown, check-out the Pho at Thanh-Long (SW College & 6th) or the Seafood and Noodle Soup at August Moon (SW Clay between 1st and 2nd). Both are delicious, generously-sized, and about half the price of Hot Pot City. August Moon even delivers, stays open pretty late on the weekends, and has super-nice owners and staff
