My wife and I have eaten at Sweet Tomatoes a few times since we moved to Portland, but I wont be back. I was getting soup and was observing the person behind the counter refilling the sour cream. Unfortunately, what she was putting into the sour cream container looked more like cottage cheese than sour cream. It was OBVIOUSLY curdled. I continued to watch the staff member, and she was kind of looking in the container, looking at the spatula that she was using, then she picked the container up and checked the expiration date...disgusted, I went back to my table and told my wife to avoid putting sour cream on her potato. So, a few minutes later, I go back for more soup, HOPING that they would have realized their error. When I got back to that area, the MANAGER (at least judging by her different uniform I assume she was a manager) was STIRRING the sour cream on the bar, mixing the curdled in with the fresh. By then I was pretty frustrated, so I said to the manager, "I saw her put that sour cream in there, and it was obviously curdled, and you just went and stirred it in..whats wrong with you?" to which she replied, "Oh no, its not curdled..its just a little separated. I even checked the expiration date and tasted it, its fine.." Aint for nothing, but in a buffet type restaurant, if there is ANY question about the freshness of the food, the restaurant should err on the side of caution. In the case of this incident, there is no doubt in my mind that there was something wrong with that product, and they purposely mixed a spoiled product with a fresh product on their bar. I hope no one gets sick. Anyway, I wont be back.

this is a place that my family goes to a lot. Its a very nice alternative to heavy greasy food and also to most other buffets. Since their focus is on salads and vegetables you can actually eat pretty healthy here. They also have other things such as their version of pizza bread and cornbread and soups and pastas and some desserts. Unfortunately once you get past the salad bar you are treated to very low-level food that feels like something you would get at a school cafeteria. I mean yeah the pasta is decent my kid loves the mac and cheese and the pizza bread is appropriately Pizza like and the other breads are as intended as are the soups. It just kind of feels like an afterthought and they really spent all their time and energy on the salad bar but then decided that people wouldnt come if salad was the only option. I wont hit them too hard for that though because I like what they are trying to accomplish and the main thrust of their business they do extremely well. Its also decently affordable so all levels of Life can afford to eat there. Plus its one of The View true family restaurants around. I still recommend it its a great place.

I generally HATE buffet-style restaurants, but Im a sucker for Sweet Tomatoes, especially when I have a good coupon. When you first walk in, you build your salad. Beware of the prepared Caesar salad, though, unless you like fishy-tasting salad dressing. After you make your salad, you pay for your meals and get seated. Then you hit the soup bar, bread station and pasta bar. My favorite things to get are the chili and baked potato, which you can load with cheese, butter, bacon, sour cream, chives and onions. One thing to watch for are children sticking their grubby fingers in the desserts. If this happens, tell the staff so they can change out the food with something less contaminated. The wait staff is always really friendly and good about clearing your plates quickly. This is the perfect place to go if your family takes four hours to decide where to go for dinner (like mine) because there is something here that everyone will like.

The pictures are LIES, the food does NOT look like that. The food had zero taste, the pasta was WAY overcooked, the salad had wilted lettuce, the tuna salad had a metallic taste to it, the soup had a weird flavor that makes me think it has been frozen and reheated multiple times. There is only one group of people who will enjoy this restaurant, large groups of elderly people looking for food that reminds them of a hospital cafeteria. There are better options in Tigard, trust me, dont waste your money on this place. I regret it thoroughly.

Great salads because you make it yourself, or choose from one of the featured salads prepared at the front counter. Once youve made it past the salad bar, its on to the soup bar, the bread bar, the hot food bar, the fruit bar, the dessert bar, and the beverage bar. When you go back for more, leave the small sign letting the staff know you will be back and they will clear the empty dishes from your table. Senior discount Monday through Thursday 2-5 $7.99 all you can eat. #LocalGuides #OnGoogleMaps

Well the food was ok but we had a party of 7 with a baby and they had a problem with us pushing a table closer so we had enough seats. I did it anyway. Then you could hear the staff talking about us. I got asked if I had paid when I went through the salad line. Nothing was stocked and the apple cobbler had an inch of butter in it...it was butter apple soup. They would have done better to have people helping instead of giving a family with 3 children a hard time but thats just my opinion.

Stopped in with a group (6 people) on Saturday night around 5:30. This place was backed up out the door. With that being said, we did make it in pretty quickly and through the line. The vegetables were fresh and the place is great for families (we had 2 families). Make sure to look in the newspaper or online for coupons as that really brings the price down. My daughter and her cousin both loved this place and of course, everyone went home with a full stomach.

Im not a huge buffet fan but I like Sweet Tomatoes. Fewer options than a traditional buffet but what they do, they tend to do well. Their strengths are the Salad Bar, Soups, and the fresh chocolate chip cookies. They also have breads and pastas that are pretty good. If Im going to go to a buffet, this is where Ill go. They also almost always have good coupons to make it an even better value!

I am so irritated with this place I am writing this while I am still in the restaurant. The food is so bland, the macaroni and cheese doesnt taste like cheese, the Alfredo doesnt taste like alfredo, the chicken noodle soup doesnt even taste like chicken. It tastes like boiled noodle water. We paid $28.16 for chicken noodle water and soda.

How do you like your carbs and starches? Pasta, bread, potatoes, thats what you are in store for. $10 lunch is better spent elsewhere. Everything just seemed off. The Mac and cheese is runny, the tapioca was separated are just a few examples. I get what its trying to do, but its poor on delivery. Maybe dinner is better, but I doubt it.

Got there 15 minutes after they opened, no iceberg lettuce available? Said it would be another 20 to 30 minutes before it was ready. By the time we left, still didnt have any out on the salad bar. Otherwise everything else was great, but how do you not have any iceberg lettuce at a salad bar restaurant?
