We stayed at the Shilo for two nights with our family (7 yr old, 4 yr old, and 10 mo old). We were all tired when we arrived, so we decided to just try the hotel restaurant (which we usually avoid). The posted wine list and linen tablecloths scared us off. We went to the front desk to ask for a more family-friendly place, and the guy manning the front desk said that the only one within walking distance was the hotel restaurant. We reiterated that we werent comfortable going there with the tired kids, and he thought about it a little more, then said that all he could think of was their restaurant. Out of spite, we left. The next morning, we tried it while there were a few less people (it was only us and an older couple). The food was a little better than our dinner at a local joint, but the service was slow and the kids had nothing to do. When we asked, the server found some crayons, which kept our 7 yr old busy, but the 4 yr old was pretty antsy pretty quick. This might be a great place for just the wife and I, or maybe when the kids get older... but skip it if you have young ones.

If I could give zero stars I would. First off we got a menu that was only one page with very limited options. We ordered and then noticed there were people getting food that was not in our menu that we would have rather ordered. When our food came we asked the waitress and her reply was "That food is from our bar menu, we only give out that menu to families ya know that have kids with them" Huh?!?! So if you sat in the bar you could eat the bar food, but out of the bar you can only eat it if you have kids?!?? Next our food came. My salad was $23 and had shrimp and crab on it. The lettuce was so wilty it was green and slimy. I lost my appetite and didnt eat dinner at all. My fiancé ordered the surf and turf for $29 and the steak that came was about 2 ounces. When we asked the waitress about it she said she asked the chef and he said it started out as 7 ounces and then after cooking shrunk down to 2. I call B.S. I would not recommend this restaraunt, oh and did I mention the flies that were buzzing around the dining room while we were eating??? Gross.

Paid $190 for a king bed room. Got a queen sized bed with a TV from 1990 that had the blurriest picture Ive ever seen (Id post a picture if I could), no air, plywood walk in front of the room so you can hear everyone walk by, the beds dont even have fitted sheets and are some of the most uncomfortable Ive ever slept on, outlets dont have covers on them, theres chunks of wallpaper missing, dust covering everything, coffee pot has the old coffee filter still in it so it obviously wasnt cleaned. Overall, very dirty and old. Pretty crappy room for $190. Pretty sad that this place thinks they can do this and charge so much. Ill be contacting the city of Newport business bureau.

Mediocre food and service. Terribly written and confusing menu. Server asked if we wanted bacon or sausage, making it seem like it was part of the breakfast and then we ended up getting charged for $20 in side orders we would not have gotten if we knew it was going to be extra. Convenient location, because we stayed at his hotel but not worth it.

Great view. Over priced. Avoid the cafe for breakfast. Chicken breast was deep fat fried and burned as well as the eggs: burned. No restroom in lobby. Blind in lobby tied up to itself to keep it open. Come on. Its a less than $100 replacement and there were lots other examples like 1 screen missing in the room. However very clean, just dated.

Food was alright, the waitress literally though would ask us if we wanted a drink then IMMEDIATELY turn away. We couldnt even get another word in. We had to order our dinner in four separate interactions. King crab legs were underwhelming. Dunno what the bigger lowlight of our trip was - the hotel room, or this.

Terrible service and their deserts were awful. We waited 10 min to be seated and finally just sat in the bar. Their mixed berry cobbler consisted of apples, raisins and whole cranberries and was not worth eating. Overall very disappointing.

The cafe wasnt that great. Service was poor and the food was mediocre. It took forever to get coffee and each time they said that they had to brew a fresh pot. The price of the food was good though. Very reasonable. Nice views of the ocean.

Okay so the service is not the best but they are super understaffed, and there food is absolutely amazing I would give it five stars in a heart beat if they had better service, but the view is breath taking it is a must stop in my opinion

This place is not what is shown in the pictures or on the website. The lounge is good but the restaurant and cafe suck. Way too expensive of a hotel for what you get. The rooms and service are more like a $50 motel not $175.

My burger was raw. The chunks of salt on the fries are a bit much. The sheet of lettuce tore my raw burger apart with the first bite. You cant cover up incompetence with thousand island dressing and call it good.
