I am a chef and my wife a bartender/server. We are pretty critical, but very understanding when it comes to mistakes. I will pick apart every single dish and figure out whats done right and wrong. Its what I do for a living, so it just happens. I never bring it to the attention of the server unless something is really wrong. We love good service. Its 40-60% of a dining experience. A good server and a mediocre meal can make me a return customer. On to the review! We went it late, around 9:30. The staff seemed irritated we were there, but that seems to be protocol for late diners. I get it, you want to go home, but dont get pissed at me because your workplace is open late. We were sat near the bus station. I have no idea why they wouldnt just extend that wall to hide it completely. No dim sum at night. They have a neon sign on the front of the building lit up that says Dim Sum. Ok...thats lunch. I get it. But turn off the damn neon sign. Im kinda annoyed, but whatever. We ordered Mu Shu Pork, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, and The House Special Chow Mein. The Chow Mein came out in 5 minutes. I was shocked. Then the rice in another 2 and the Mu Shu in another 2. The food was AMAZING! Huge portions. No heavy sauces. You could taste the wonderful, fresh veggies that were cooked perfectly. The BBQ pork in the fried rice was insane and the whole dish was light and fluffy. And the Mu Shu was cooked in such a hot wok that there was a slight char on the onions and cabbage. Nothing was greasy. Just good clean flavors. I was shocked. I havent had Chinese this good since I lived in SF or Sacramento. We BSed a bit with our server and busser and both lightened up a bit. What started as a really ominous, on the verge of heading south at any second experience, turned out to be the best meal Ive had in a long time. We were in and out in 30 minutes. It would have been a lot faster if we knew what we wanted. My only other gripe was the $10 BBQ Pork Fried Rice. It was a huge portion with tons of pork, but $8 or $9 would be more appropriate. It isnt a entrée. If the staff would lighten up a bit, get a better bed side manner, and make their customers feel more comfortable, they would see better tips and get better reviews. Im sure they get stiffed on tips all the time. You could tell they were frustrated, not necessarily with the customer, but maybe with the job. Like they didnt want to be there. Its unfortunate, because the food is dead on.

I went to this place last week. I was so disappointed with their food and service. My family had dims sum first and we had to keep telling them many times that we want to order from the menu as well. It took more than 30 minutes and told at least 4 different people before we got someone to take our order from the menu. Everything we had were super salty and cold. We ordered house special fry rice. It tasted horrible. It was cold and tasteless and greasy, it seemed like someone just added ingredients together without having to put it on fire bc it was cold. 2nd dishes was the Beef Chow Fun, the noodles were not cooked, they were cold and hard and very salty. 3rd dish was the fish. This one was OK, but super salty. The fish cooked well but there is nothing special to it. It was just a fried fish with soy sauce. Not special sauce like it said . When we complained about the food they replaced the Beef Chow Fun for us but not fried rice. the girl who brought the replacement dish look mad and didnt say a word when she brought the good for us. She just put food on the table and walked away. It will not go there anymore. My fzmily used to go there all the time. I think they might have new cook bc the foods are not what it use to be. I and my families been there many times for many years to notice the difference. When we asked if they have new cook they dny No.

My friend celebrated his birthday by inviting a bunch of us lucky friends to a special dinner at Jin Wah. We enjoyed an absolutely terrific family-style meal that featured at least 8 different courses. The evening started with probably the best pot stickers Ive ever eaten - my wife remarked afterward that they were her favorite item of the evening. My favorite dish was a whole, steamed sea bass. After spooning the tender and flavorful meat away from the bone you are rewarded with the subtle and complimentary flavors of scallions, lemons and other seasonings. That alone was worth the visit. Another wonderful dish was Roast Duck (Kao Ya) with Buns. The duck was tender and full of flavor, the buns sweet, and a really tasty BBQ sauce added a lot of flavor. Another excellent dish was sauteed whole green beans - the staff was gathered at a table and snapping the ends off the fresh beans when we arrived. The beans had a really terrific garlic flavor. I also enjoyed the "Happy Family" and Broccoli Beef, among the more typical Chinese-American restaurant dishes but well done here. My wife was very complimentary of what I think were "Peking Style Pork Chops." Anyway, this place is worth a try and they did a great job of hosting our party of approximately 20 people.

The food here is pretty good. I cant deny that compared to the few other Chinese restaurants in the area. But its only pretty good. Nothing that really stands out other than you can get dim sum. But the food unfortunately cant make up for the rude service (not bad per se) but rude. Heres an example, Waiter comes around 30 seconds after we just get seated and asks if we are ready to order. I say "sorry we need a minute". Comes back in another 30 seconds and I say again, "Sorry, we need another minute". Now after about 2 minutes deciding for my wife and son, we are ready. But by this point our waiter didnt come back. I actually had to grab his attention after 5 minutes to let him know we were ready. His response in a very angry tone, "Yeah, hold on Ill be right back, OK!" Lets move on.. So after our food arrives, I ask for a small bowl so my son can share some of the soup I ordered. Our waiter never comes back and actually we get a new server. Going back to my first thoughts on the food and considering the service we got on a number of occasions, a restaurant has to have mind blowing food in order to justify a customer to come back and have to deal with that. Sorry Jin Wah, your food is not good enough unfortunately.

Horrible service. We never got a chance to try their food, because after they sat us at the back table by the bathrooms and kitchen, with a great view of the bus racks, they left us to sit for fifteen minutes and never came by to take our order--or even ask if anybody had. It was 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, and the restaurant wasnt crowded at all. The vast majority of what diners were there were Asian something I initially took as a -good- sign) , and I couldnt shake the feeling that we were discriminated against. Fine with us. There are plenty of other restaurants that would be more than happy to take our money. We walked out, and registered our displeasure with the nearest uniformed employee. Its too bad, too. Everything on the menu looked very good. Id had my entrée picked out, as did my dining companion (we certainly had enough time to do so). Well never know if it was any good, because based on the deplorable service alone, we will -not- be back. So if we were discriminated against, well, they got their wish. Its the old adage: you never get a second chance at a first impression.
