Having spent a year in Japan, I used to love this restaurant since real Japanese people worked here serving authentic Japanese food. The menu included not only sushi, which is available everywhere, but lots of other authentic Japanese dishes. Now the place is under new ownership. I believe the new owners are Korean because I saw "Kim Chee" listed under deserts on the menu. The menu has been reduced to just sushi and a few other common Japanese foods. My server had no idea what I meant when I asked for "tempura donburi" which used to be my favorite item on the menu. The sushi we ordered was pretty average, except that one roll had what tasted like cheese whiz on it. The tempura moriawase I ordered was not nearly as good as it used to be and the rice was not very sticky. We also tried to order house salads, expecting the usual lettuce and ginger dressing salads (small and cheap), and received instead something large with fried chicken and crab meat in it that turned out when we got the bill to be expensive. The bottom line is that this used to be an excellent, authentic Japanese restaurant experience and is now a mediocre, me-too-Korean-Japanese restaurant. I will not be returning.

We first went on a weekday night, maybe 4 other groups were there. The service was extremely slow. She sat us down with a menu. When she came back 15 min later, we were ready to order. But she forgot to bring us an order card, so we waited another 15 min after filling it out for the waitress to pick it up. While we were waiting, I watched a plate of sushi sit at the pick up window for ten min before being picked up and taken to another table. Its not a difficult tasks carrying food to a table and the lack of effort and attention reflects upon the restaurant. After nearly two hours, we received our 5 sushi roles, (the sixth one came out when we were about half way done eating those). Overall, the sushi itself was very delicious, but the lack of service promptness makes me worrisome about returning to Bayna. I dont normally have two hrs to wait around for sushi during the week, and going on a weekend night doesnt seem like a good idea.

No, this is no longer being run in an authentic Japanese style. However, the food is still very good! Seems strange people dont complain about Mexicans rolling their sushi in the conveyer belt restaurants but get picky about Koreans. Korea has its own style sushi and sashimi and considering their long occupation by Japanese military it is not surprising their versions of Japanese cuisine are Very Good. The cattepillar roll, spicy tuna hand rolls and bento boxes are all great here. Why in the world the previous reviewer would find kimchee in the desert section is beyond me! Kimchee is super spicy pickled cabbage, usually served as a side dish, perhaps a year in Korea would have been more helpful!

I lived in Japan for nearly two years, so when it comes to Japanese food I am discerning and picky. This little family restaurant is a gem! There is a great variety of freshly prepared sushi, noodles, yakitori, and many other traditional offerings. Everything that I have had is amongst the best I have had in Portland and the most authentic. The wait staff is efficient and charming. The only downside is that the restaurant looks as if it could use a remodel. The furnishings are clean and presentable, but definitely outdated. Id give them five stars otherwise. If you love Japanese food, go for it!

If people complain on here about the service, than you should to a bigger sushi place, where it is set up for speed dinning. I go here at least three times a week with take-out or sit down eating. And i love it. The people that work here are so nice, and they always remember you. After only going in here a couple times, i ran into them at another place in town and they remembered me before i did them. The sushi is fresh and tastes great, you may wait a little, but trust me the wait is worth it. And if your dinning with good people, than what does the wait matter. Slow down and enjoy life people!

Sushi was decent, though Ive had better in Waterbury, CT. However, there was a large, curly, black hair in our wasabi. We chose not to complain since we didnt plan to use it anyway. After looking everything else over for hairs, my fiance had the spicy yellowtail and couldnt finish because it tasted oddly fishy. Aside from us, there was one table of five in the whole restaurant. The waitress was slow despite this and, when another couple arrived, she told them that the sushi would take too long and they should order from the kitchen instead.

We absolutely love this place. Tucked away behind the "Si Senor" Mexican restaurant is this absolute gem of a Sushi place. The restaurant is simple and clean. The service is warm and we always get the sweetest greeting from the staff and the Sushi Chef! The food is incredible. Well thought-out menu with fresh and flavorful ingredients. We are always happily stuffed by the time we leave. We recommend this place so highly, that 5 stars simply arent enough. 10 stars.

This place has good prices. The food is cooked very well every time Ive been here. They are doing it right for sure. Really good sushi, teriyaki, and sake! The coconut sake is delicious! They will let u call ahead for your meal to-go even though its a small place and have it ready pretty early sometimes. They have a sushi bar, regular tables, and cozy floor seats too! Im lucky I live close to this place! \(^o^)/

The sushi and service here are very good, as are the prices. They have some standards available, and the chance to be more adventurous. Feels family owned, fun, and comfortable. One of our favorite restaurants in the area.

Came in for lunch and when I was halfway done eating the hostess actually came up to me and said they would be closing at 2pm and to please hurry up and leave. I left, the food wasnt very good anyway.

This is my favorite sushi place in Beaverton! The fish is very fresh. The staff is nice, and attentive. Their lunch specials are reasonably priced and very filling.
