Terrible at best. I ordered a side of vegetable tempura. They said would be ready in 20 minutes. Came in and they said another 15 to 20 minutes. So I ordered a beer. All they have is on tap. I ordered an Asahi. Tasted horrible. The beer lines are very dirty and the beer came out tasting sweet and stale. I told them about it and they still charged me and did nothing about the taps. The beer was 5.50, the vegetable tempura 7.50(incorrect price). Tip 2.00(to go)=$15. Once i got in the car I could smell fish so I opened it. It was almost all shrimp. I am allergic to shrimp. Once I returned I told them I wanted vegetable tempura and that Im allergic to shrimp. They said it will be another 20-30 minutes to replace it. So I went next door for another beer($5=20 now for all costs). Once I return I get my replacement order. As I get into the car I check and there is hardly any tempura. There was less than $2 worth of tempura. Five tiny pieces. I emailed the owners/management and have heard nothing back. This place should not exist.

My fiancee and I went to eat there on a Sunday evening and were delighted by the food quality. They used real wasabi, not the generic horseradish type paste you get at most sushi places. They dont put cream cheese and avocado in every roll and dont deep fry everything. Although it took a little bit for us to receive our rolls, the staff were always on point by constantly keeping our water and hot tea full without skipping a beat. Their sushi was great and their Earl Gray Tea custard was an amazing dessert. The point of sushi is to taste the fish at its best ,and hands down, they deliver.

Historically, Ive not been a big sushi lover, but I am starting to get there. My biggest issue with sushi is that I feel most places put way too much rice vinegar in the rice. Maki definitely does not over vinegar their rice, which allows you to taste the rest of the ingredients in their sushi and nigiri. The quality and freshness of their fish is excellent and well worth any wait if you go when its busy. They have great service and are super friendly as well. If you like sushi, or just want to try what REALLY good sushi is, I highly recommend Maki.

Up until our discovery of Yuzu, Maki was my girlfriend and Is go to place for izakaya and Sushi. Sadly that is no longer true, after 2 frustrating visits with no service in excess of 40 minutes, incorrect food description on the menu resulting in my girlfriend being sick and lackluster izakaya it is doubtful we will return. Up to this point we had been going to Maki 1-2x a month for the last year and had a great experience with the same staff that jilted us the last two times. Im sorry Maki, its you, not me, we have to break up now.

Service was 5 star for sure. One of my chopsticks fell on the ground and our server came immediately from the other side of the restraunt to provide another pair. This is unique! The sushi was excellent although a couple of the rolls we ordered were a bit smaller than expected. Our waters were never empty and dishes were always picked up soon after a plate was finished. There were also two other Japanese speaking tables and we think thats a good thing. We will definitely be back.

My family has been coming to this restaurant for over 5 years. Dont expect fast service, but the food is well worth the wait. Ive been to many sushi restaurants around the Portland area, but none of them compare to Maki. The quality and freshness of each dish is superb, and is always consistent after all these years! Probably has something to do with the one and only dedicated sushi chef who artfully crafts each roll day in and day out. Try the spicy hamachi (yellowtail) and gyozas!

Overall, one of the poorest dining experiences i have had in a year at portland. The food was either overcooked or under flavored, or perhaps its just my gaijin taste buds reacting to authentic japanese food, but whatever it was, it was bland. The cuts of chicken were very fatty and all dark meat. The teriyaki was sweet with no kick to it. The highlight of my $40 meal was the sushi, which was pretty good, but the service was lackluster. I would not return.

I love sushi. I have eaten sushi all across the country. This is by far the most authentic, highest quality, and best tasting sushi Ive ever had. I absolutely love it! Tuna avocado, happy tuna, rock and roll, and the various nigiri are my favorite. The service is always great. Sometimes there is a wait, but it is worth it. I have seen many Japanese people come here, and thats how you know it is authentic.

The sushi quality is good. But it is very expensive. If you are looking for a reasonable price and good quality sushi, this place is definitely not your option. My boy friend and I spent over $60 and it didnt really make us full at all! It is a little bit more expensive than an average sushi place and also the sushi is really small relative to what you pay for.

Came to town and I had to get some dinner after just arriving. I was looking forward to it on my long drive, they were so good last time. They accurately quoted the wait time. The service was polite. Food was excellent once again. I tried the yellowtail with green onions this time, Id order it again. The restaurant seems clean and organized.

As an out of towner I have only eaten at 3 Japanese restaurants in the Portland area. Maki is the best so far. The service and food was excellent! I particularly liked the their seaweed salad. The Miso soup had very good flavor and unlike most Japanese restaurants had a more liberal amount of tofu. The sushi (octopus) was quite good also.

Visited again after the first visit and I remembered why I dont go here. Food was expensive, compared to other places, and not very good. Tough sashimi, small portions, and not all that fresh. My wife never leave sushi on her plate but she did this time. Try other places unless you like paying more and have no other options.

Maki has the freshest fish Ive ever tasted! I ate some yellowfin.. and it was so fresh it practically melted in my mouth!--which is exactly how sashimi should be! It can be a little expensive..but for how good the sashimi is...it is worth it! A little gem not to overlook for anyone who wants the real deal!

Some of the best sushi in the area. You do have to wait a bit for the sushi sometimes but it is so worth it. The staff there is very friendly although sometimes it is hard to understand them because they have an accent. No mater what you get there though it will be good.
