Date 01/21, 2012 Location: Bales Thriftway, Farmington Rd, Aloha, Oregon Bales enjoys saying that they "are part of the Community since 1961" and yet they allow republican and Tea Party candidates and their campaign staff to set up political booths and tables INSIDE Bales store entrances (please read here...inside the store...not outside in the common areas where the Scouts, Red Cross or Salvation Army has to stay) but actually INSIDE the store, causing all customers to be subjected to their political agenda. What is worse is that the Bales Thriftway Manager himself, was standing along side the Rob Cornilles campaign staff behind the campaign table, greeting his customers. Heres the entire story and I hope you will stand up and tell Bales Thriftway, and voice your opinion to get this stuff out of the stores, especially when a majority of their customers are not in fact Republican. Dear Thriftway Team, today, my family went to the Farmington Rd (Oregon) Bales Thriftway and just inside (not outside) the store, we were stopped by the Manager of Bales Thriftway, standing at the Rob Cornelius Republican booth, stopping each and every Bales Thriftway customer that entered the store. We could not proceed past the booth they had setup because of the campaign staff interference and their 8 table. While we accept this is a privately owned and operated store, we (and many others who I spoke to outside the store after the negative politically motivated encounter) believe that the mission of Thriftway should NOT be political, or obviously support one Candidate over another. In fact a political booth SHOULD NEVER BE SETUP INSIDE any Store flying the Thriftway name. It should also be stated that I told the Manager of Bales Thriftway of my displeasure and how I thought it was wrong (and most likely against their own company policy) to allow (and stand and greet customers) at the Rob Cornilles booth inside his store, in his own attempt to support Rob Cornelius. In response to my and others complaints, he stated to us that "its my store". I was beside myself and told them I would never shop at any Bales Thriftway again, and I do this in good concious, as should others should also be doing...because Bales Thiftway stores are alienating all non-republican customers. I had the worst experience at their bakery the other day. I went in to put in a custom order for my sons birthday. When I asked for help I received attitude immediately. While I was telling the lady my order she repeatedly rolled her eyes and made loud breathing sounds as if I was bothering her by putting in an order. Once we got down to the decoration part she told me to email the picture to the Baker/cake decorator. I had my iPhone in my hand so I asked her the email so that I could send it rite than to be sure my order would be in on time. She gave me The general site not and email so I asked her was it gmail, yahoo or the bakers name@baleyslamd etc. She told me that Store website was what she was told to give out for email and that I need to stop harassing her. I was excited to put in the order for my sons cake he was really excited as well. So I just wanted the proper email so that he could get to the right person, so there will be no misunderstandings and that the cake will be perfect. I was flabbergasted by the attitude and service that I was receiving so at that point I decided to start recording the employee and the way that she was talking to me. She then yelled at me told me I need to put my phone down and that she was going to get security. She actually stormed off and did go get security. So I went and asked for the manager that was in charge of the store at the time. She talked to me an smooth things over and put in my cake order so I thought. Nope days later nothing happened. Order information was all over the place. I had been getting my cakes from the Olsen location for 7 years and was never treated like this. I decided to give this location a try because its closer to my new home. I will never go here again I cannot believe the way that I was treated and I cannot believe that this is how they run this store.

I love bales store and nothing complaining about the store but complaining there USPS postal service. I was using this postal service place over 4 years and had no issue till today. I stopped by the location to drop off my first class international package which I prepaid and printed out the label from online with clik-N-ship. I have shipped same way many times and had no issue. The Manager came up to me and said that I cannot ship my package there since I did not fill out 3 pages CN22 custom form. She was totally wrong, When I use quick-N-ship first class international, I fill out CN22 custom form through the USPS website and the custom deceleration appears on the label. There is no 3 pages labels needed like international priority mail, First class international label has only ONE PAGE and it contains custom deceleration form as well as shipper/receivers address. I explained it to her but she said I am wrong and she even said in very rude way that she does not have time to deal with me because she is in hurry. I left that location without not able to drop off my package. I went to 185th USPS office and asked if I was missing some documentation, but customer service personal said my label and package had nothing wrong and ready to drop off and he said he does not understand why my package was refused at that location. This place unprofessionally treats customer and do not know what they do as a professional. Will never use this postal service anymore.

I have to give a 3 star. While the business and operational standpoint is awesome. The customer service is fantastic, they really give the community a positive feel. What kills me is that the products are generally 20%-40% overpriced compared to the stiff competition nearby: Albertsons/Safeway (-- granted they are the same company no), along with Costco nearby, a Food-4-Less, Gorcery Outlet, and Winco all a 5 minute drive away...its hard to really love Bales completely if they cannot be competitive. I really only shop here now if i have to pick up one or two items and I am in a hurry, but even sometimes right next door, I can still walk next door to the Rite Aid and still only get hit with a 10% markup compared to the 20-40% here. Its a shame, but i really hope that whomever reads this here that they understand that really you do miss out on customers more for a markup than just nice people. Its the pocketbooks that matter in this business than anything else...

With a Winco in town like 2 miles away this store is a waste of money for most people. The produce and meat section is lackluster and picked over half the time but on some days can be really fresh but expensive. The prices for some items are insane like 12 dollars for 6 rolls of toilet paper you can get in other places for half the price. Overall it is nice to walk through and see if you can find any specialty items you cant find anywhere else as their selection of things like condiments, pasta sauces and spices goes way beyond the average store. I shop there for a hot sauce I like and occasionally pick up their sales items which can be pretty good deals. The deli section is awesome but a tad pricey. The brands are all top notch, no slimy turkey for 2.99 but you will find Boars Head Pastrami there for 7.99 a pound which is cheaper than Safeway and always seems fresher.
