We began frequenting El Chico - Norman eight years ago when we moved here. Loved the food and staff. Probably went once per week for several years. Theres the manager, big guy foreign accent - wonderful man. Then there is the lady - asst. manager maybe? also wonderful. Both very concerned with customer service. Then one night we went and the staff was awful - not just lackluster but lazy and rude! We thought it was an off-night. Went again, food and staff were falling off..........noticed a guy who was another manager maybe? We tried it twice more and it just got worse. This isnt just any place to us - this is where we and our adult children and their spouse and our grandchild have our night-before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving dinner. We are non-traditional. I was so sorry that in 2011 and 2012 we missed our tradition there. We just stopped choosing to spend our eating out money there. Then, in April of 2013 - on a fluke we ended up at El Chico. Saw the big manager and the lady - but other guy wasnt there. Looks like new assistant manager was there. Staff was once again attentive and food? Well it was spectacular again! The dish I snapped a picture of was the best dish I have ever had there - I hope they keep it. My dad, who was born and raised in New Mexico used to make this dish and the fried egg on top MAKES the dish! I hope all those people in Norman who stopped going because of the issues it had - will give it another chance. You wont be disappointed! Well be there several time prior to night-before-Thanksgiving meal. Weve added 2 people since then..........were going to need a bigger table!

The service was mediocre considering we were seated right next to the kitchen. Our waiter was also not very accommodating to my kids - two of which are special needs (aspergers/autism) and frequently said "no we cant do that". The waiter said that she has worked there for over 6 years yet she seemed to have very little patience and did not want to color outside the strict confines of the menu. She was very short with my wife and it is as if she had judged us in her mind as being bad parents. I will not go back there especially for any more family dinners.

Id really like to give it a better rating but I just cant. Food was mediocre at best. Salsa and cheese they give you to snack on both tasted like it was from a can. As did the beans and rice. Some of the food looked really good and some of it looked like a frozen dinner so I guess you just have to know what to choose. I had the steak fajita tacos and they were very good! Someone else that was with me got a chimichanga and they didnt even eat it

I have always loved eating at El Chico, one of my favorite restaurants; however, why are they closing several stores here in Oklahoma City? I used to freguent the one on South Western in OKC as well as the one on the Northwest Expressway in OKC, and both are now closed. Do you know if El Chico will open a new store in the near future on the South side of OKC or anywhere near in the future? Please bring them back. Thank you.

We have eaten here many times and almost always have great service. The last time the service was fine but I noticed the queso tasted differently than it usually does. I was the only one in my family that ate queso. A few hours later I became very sick and was sick all night.. I wouldnt have thought it was ruined..just wasnt near as good as usual. We love eating here but it will be awhile before Im brave enough to try it again..

We had the best food and the best service today at the El Chicos Mexican restaurant in Norman, OK at the Sooner Mall. The food was priced right. The portions were huge (had to have a to go box) and it was delicious! I had the Taco Salad and it looked like a work of art! I should have taken a pic on my phone. Well done Norman El Chicos, well be back.

The food was average tasting. We ordered the blanco chicken enchilada & the chicken mushroom enhilada plates. The blanco was great. The mushrooms were missing from the chicken mushroom, making it a chicken bacon. We ordered drinks, the bartender was very rude when one was wrong & was even nastier about correcting it. Over all 2 stars.

The services was absolutely terrible! I will never eat at this elchicos again . Our waitress was so rude and she forgot to put our order in so we ended up being there for over two hours. The tortillas that we asked for came out 45 minutes later and were hard and nasty. I will definitely not eat here again.

Id go just for the chips and queso, the entrees are not spectacular. Cool atmosphere, good service. Horrible customers. Snotty, whiny, rude and impatient. This is not fast food, do not expect everything fast. Tip your waiter at least 20%, ask for them next time and youll have a good time every time you go.

Excellent service, food was better than the other elchico restaurants. This is the first time in a long time Ive actually eaten the rice it was perfect. The beans are a little skimpy on the cheese however they offer free queso with the setup. A wonderful experience and I will definitely be back again.

Horrible!!! Will never eat there again. Ordered tortilla soup (carry out) got home to find the soup was watery, and I mean watery! The tortilla strips were just regular crunched up chips. Also, the cheese dip was just as watery. We threw it all out....

We are here now and it was 25 minutes before the woman took our food order which my wife had to ask her if we could order. The place stinks and is dirty. A little scared to see and eat our food when it comes out. Never will I ever come back here.

Had their chimichangas and loved it! My sister, whos very picky, also enjoyed her dish and did not even send back any food to be redone!! (which is rare for her, lol). Will definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who happens inside the mall.

Service was phenomenal, however The food was very sub-par. Overcooked, dry and barely any cheese in my enchiladas. Will try one more time because the service was do good. Maybe it will be better.
