There are no shortage of Mexican restaurants in Norman and Mamavecas stands out among the rest. We had a large group we wanted to seat, and one of the other restaurants in town was going to be over 45 minutes for a large table, but Mamavecas accommodated us almost immediately, getting a table ready very quickly for us. The service is phenomenal whether you are a party of 2, or 14. Prices very good and food is fantastic. Ive never had a meal I didnt like. For a different twist, the Peruvian menu is a departure from the norm. The location is a bit strange, sandwiched in between two big-box stores, but that shouldnt keep you from trying this restaurant.

They r strict about each person ordering an entree, or else pay $5 for the "complimentary chips & salsa". Boyfriend and I were going to split a plate, but then were told we would be charged $5. I was going to order a large combo plate & let my 3 yr old eat with me--I questioned charging $5 for a 3 yr old to eat some chips & they didnt charge for him (and he shared my dinner). Thats the only reason for 4 stars. Salsa is very good; not spicy but lots of flavor. Carne asada is the best Ive ever had--really amazing. Sour cream chicken enchiladas were tasty as well. Generous portion sizes, decent service.

Service was quick, the waitress was there to refill a weak cup of coffee. I ordered the Sunday enchilada special topped with an egg. The egg was undercooked, served runny, as for the beef enchiladas, this is the same as opening a can of Hormel no beans and pouring out over some plain ground beef. How did one reviewer rave about this place. My conclusion is they have an untrained palette. I cooked professionally for many years, if I were to open a Mexican restaurant in Norman, I would put this place out of business.

Oh Hell NO!!! I grew up in OK &TX, but have lived in Utah for the last 20 years. Is it really too much to expect to get an authentic Tex-Mex meal when I come home to visit. Watery margharita, crappy canned salsa and ball park queso made me decide to skip the main. The salsa/queso combo was complementary until I didnt want to eat there, then that BS excuse for a Margharita ended up costing me $12. Do Not Eat Here. Im headed to try Tarahumara off Porter next.

The owner charged us $7 for two enchiladas for my 8 year old. They were $1.99 each when you add them to a meal, so my wife ordered a meal and added them. When the bill came, the owner told us they were $3.50 each since they were not for my wife. The full enchilada meal is cheaper than $7!! Then, after she paid, the owner told her to take her business elsewhere. No problem. Teds must be hurting his business!

Mamaveca is a very good Mexican/Peruvian restaurant. The store is clean and the waitstaff is excellent. The food is well priced and is very tasty. They offer a few things that you cant typically find in a restaurant in this area because of the Peruvian influence. They have free chips and salsa setups and Sundays are enchilada special days. A perfect time to check them out.

Disgusting!!!!! Can I leave no stars?! Someone spit in the chips! We have been here several times for dinner with no problems. Food was good and so was the service. Went here for lunch today and someone spit a big lougie in the first basket of chips!! Everyone looked at each other and had nothing to say. We left and wont return!

This was a great find years ago and weve been coming ever since. We absolutely love the Peruvian food here. Chips are thin and crisp, salsa perfect and great cheese sauce. I highly recommend the De Pollo Chaufus which is Peruvian style Chinese rice. Big bowl and very pleasing and filling. Great service and friendly owners

Not only is the food outrageously tasty, but the staff has been nothing but the friendliest. Took my one year old there the other day and the waiter was thoughtful enough that he didnt put my daughters plate under the heat lamp so she wouldnt burn her paws. 10/10 will go back!

Wonderful food. Excellent service!! Weve heard a lot about this place and decided to try it out. It did not disappoint!! I ordered the Tacos De La Casa and my husband ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. We are looking forward to the leftovers we are taking home!

I enjoyed the calamari and onion/corn relish. I was very surprised that asking for onion, cilantro...was an additional $1 - $3. Our daughters fish and vegetables was the same portion as lunch but $4 more just bc it was evening. WOW!! Our meal for 3 was $75!!

Mamavecas has a great ambience. The staff is courteous and service is quick. Try their warm tortillas with butter, the best Ive had at a Mex-Peruvian restaurant in Norman. Theyre generous with their portions, Id especially recommend their seafood entrees.

Love the food, great Peruvian menu also. The only issue I"ve had in the 5 years Ive been going there is the service. Waitstaff can be slow with refills and checking on you. I wouldnt let that stop you from visiting though. Try theyre green sauce.

Their take on chicken fried rice was amazing. Same canned salsa and weird cheese like most places in the area, wasnt to impressed with other menu items. But the fried rice was truly amazing so I four star it based solely on that one item.

We eat here about once every week or two. Its always delicious! We usually get the fajitas and pescado a lo macho or paella. Everything weve tried has been amazing! We most often do to go orders, which are usually ready in 15 minutes.

This is NOT Tex-Mex! Their Peruvian menu is amazing and they served the best guacamole I have ever had. Our Server was very nice and gave us good service. My daughter eats here quite often, so I will be joining her in the future.

Probably my new favorite Mexican/Peruvian restaurant in Norman. The margaritas were strong, the food was good, especially the stuff of the Peruvian menu. The chips and salsa were uninspired, but that is mostly unimportant to me.

Best Mexican restaurant in town in my opinion. I have never been disappointed and have eaten here multiple times. This Mexican restaurant is cheaper then the one located by the hospital and has friendlier waiters as well.

Excellent surprise! To find great ceviche was quite a surprise - knowing Peru folks here in Miami, then seeing high quality in the middle of Oklahoma ... wow! What a treat!

I like this place but the waiters are super rude and annoying, its like they dont know how to be friendly. The people that own it are awesome but they need new waiters.
