Tree City is such a gem. With the closing a few years back of Susans Coffee & Tea, a beloved & independent local spot, Tree City is a welcome pseudo-replacement in newly revitalized downtown Kent. Spacious & modern, with a sort of industrial-but-cozy ambiance, this local joint boasts organic, fair-trade coffee & a short but sweet food menu of fun twists on PB&J sandwiches & a host of homemade pastries. Their website touts a "stay-put atmosphere," inviting customers to camp out with a laptop or a textbook - no pressure to hustle out as soon as youre done with your latte. Clientele is varied, from students to professors to local color, & seating options accommodate all kinds of visitors - big tables, small tables, lounge chairs, & a couch around a fireplace for folks who just want to chat or read a copy of The Kent Stater newspaper. I considered docking one point for snooty baristas (not all of them, but a distressing number) & for not having low-fat cream cheese. They specialize in healthy & organic, but Ive gotta order full-fat cream cheese? Annoying. But Ive got to give a full five points - & enthusiastically so - for tasty lattes (try the maple!), creative seasonal offerings, low prices, high standards, a calming atmosphere, a super-clean facility, & providing an alternative to corporate Starbucks down the road. My cream cheese grudge aside, this place is really a gem among gems - my favorite coffee shop, period, including all the ones Ive frequent in big cities like D.C. & Boston. As downtown Kent continues to grow & thrive, I hope to see Tree City "rooted" here for a long time to come.

This is a local Kent coffee shop with a great personality. It is bold, modern but comfy inside Tree City Coffee & Pastry. The workers are bright smiled and are always courteous and willing to fix an order if it goes wrong. The food is very good, though a bit pricey, the taste is unparalleled in the area for a breakfast sandwich or pasty. Since it is very much a Kent-based place, it is somewhat quirky like the town it is in. There are specials every month, things like butter-beer, pumpkin spice lattes, and that sort of thing. But often they are extremely unique and delicious. This is my favorite place to go downtown, and my favorite place for coffee. Skip Starbucks, come support your local businesses in Kent at Tree City.

Ive never met someone who didnt LOVE Tree City! Tree City is my favorite coffee shop in Kent. Their coffee is absolutely amazing and all of their food is great. Also everyone who works there is high on life and so nice, which makes it even better. The only down side if that they run out of their cayenne cheddar biscuit by 9am nearly everyday. Truly devastating. Its SO good! I like to get a breakfast sandwich with the cayenne cheddar biscuit, instead of an english muffin. They make a tiny batch of everything and once its out, thats it. Hopefully they will start making some extras =)

This newcomber on the coffee scene in Kent has already positioned itself as the defacto place to go for coffee. There is a huge selection of outstanding pastries and treats to compliment a great barista heavy batch of coffees, lattes and more! The drive up window is an added bonus for the commuter crowd craving a cafe latte. Tree City Coffee has filled the void left by two indy coffee shops run out of town by Starbucks. Im glad Kent finally has an alternative to the corpo coffee culture of the bucks.

Tree City Coffee offers drinks that are cheaper and more delicious than Starbucks. Their seasonal specialties are inspired and delicious. They have tasty pastries, oatmeal, peanut butter sandwiches, and feature fresh bread from the Brimfield Bread Oven. They also feature adult beverages in the form of craft beers, wines, and mixed drinks! The relaxing, comfortable atmosphere (and free WiFi) makes it a great place to study.

Ordered a white lightning (which in all fairness isnt a super common drink) which caused a bit of confusion and required some explaining to both the girl at the register and the barista who made it, but all that aside, dude nailed it. Tasted awesome. Didnt get breakfast, but their selection looked pretty rad. Now I definitely have a reason to go back.

I have a great time about half of the time I go to this coffee shop. The other half of the time the service is poor, surly staff, missing ingredients, or inconsistent product. This place just needs a good manager to be a goldmine. But, since I cant count on it being good (and it can be really great!), I usually go somewhere else, with more consistency.

I stood at the counter for several minutes while the server prepared orders for other customers. When she finished, she glanced at me, said nothing, and disappeared to a back room. I waited a bit longer, maybe a minute, then left. I doubt that is typically how customers are treated, or they would have no business. I left without ordering.

this is a great studying option. plenty of outlets, wifi and comfortable seating for hours of studying. The menu options are limited in terms of food, but makes up for it in drink options. Hot, cold, sweet or savory the drink menu has it all. A great alternative to other more expensive coffee house in kent!!!

Great coffee served a variety of ways. The staff is always friendly and service is quick. They have a lot of food selections, many vegetarian. It would be nice to have a vegan option or two though. Theres usually a table open early, but the inside fills up quickly in the evenings.

I have never had an unpleasant experience here and I visit Tree City often. Their Spring Soda is very good if you are looking for something refreshing. There are so many options on their menu and I will always choose this establishment over any other coffee/pastry shop.

Im not a huge coffee fan but this place is really good. I got a pourover that made me feel as if I should buy coffee more often. They also have a lot of cool pastries and sandwiches too. My only wish is that their drink portions were larger for the price offered.

Service is terrible -- employees are rude. Food is good though. Hot coffee is OK but cups tend to spill over my hand. Iced coffee needs a lot of cream and/or sugar to make it drinkable (and I usually drink my coffee black with no sugar).

Its a little pricey coffee goes, but the coffee is very good (far better than Starbucks in my opinion). The pastries arent bad either. Service is also good. The interior is nice. Overall I would definitely recommend this place.

Great place to study/work and enjoy a beverage. Free wifi. Only problem: most of the time its crowded and I think you have to pay for parking although there might be free parking that I dont know about.

Such a great place to grab a coffee with early in the morning, or even mid afternoon! The employees are so sweet and kind every time my girlfriend and I stop by. DEFINITELY THE BEST COFFEE IN KENT!

I love this place! Tons of tables and seating, great coffee selection, and their snacks are always really intriguing. Ill gladly give my $5 to them opposed to Starbucks or Dunkin.
