Currently sitting in this place and there is a SLUG crawling on the wall. A SLUG. right beside my seat and its been roaming for 30 minutes. I will include pictures of this slug - the waiter was made aware of the slug and was awesome, took responsibility, made the situation lighthearted and said he is sending a manager over. The waiter came back, said the manager told him "clean very well because of the slug" and that was it. The poor employee had to come back and report that nothing would be done about the slug and that the owner said to clean up after the slug - how gross. The poor employee clearly was uncomfortable and wanted to do something to make up for the slug but the owners solution was to come over, pretend he DIDNT SEE THE SLUG, pick it up with chop sticks and say "Ill find a new home for it". Ok thank you for showing me that the slug gets freerange over the dining area.i would expect this if we are outside - sadly we are INSIDE. Super slug was on the hunt and the owner is disgusting. The fact that this wasnt alarming to him is horrible. I have included pictures and video of the slug - note that there is MOLD ALL OVER the wall. That poor employee shouldnt have to "clean up" after the slug because he owner is absolutely disgusting. So sad that he forces his employees to clean up because he is too cheap to create a sanitary dining environment. Unless you enjoy slug sushi do not eat here. Its awful. Only good thing about this place is the awesome server who was both responsible, humorous and empathetic to super slug. I truly hope the employee gets paid enough to be enslaved in such a horrible work environment where he is literally the best thing about your restaurant. I will never come back here due to the fact that the owners response to a nasty unacceptable situation was to force an employee to "clean up" later tonight. Not even now. I truly hope the employee finds out he is related to a rich relative and is able to escape that horrible slug infested sushi trap house. You go employee - you go far away from the horrid slug trap house and enjoy your life away from the chop stick wielding idiot youre ruled by. Honestly the slug should escape as well. Good luck to employee and slug who deserve a better working environment. Slug had kind table manors but was not properly dressed for the occasion. Slug and employee should rule Umi - not the terrible chop stick nasty man. He should not participate in society.

Tuesday lunch. Ordered from the Sushi menu. Took about 30 minutes from ordering to service(once the order was actually given). The Salmon Roe was dry and somewhat deflated. It reminded me of "fishing bait"(told the waiter) The Rainbow Roll was skinny and the "CRAB" was actually "imitation crab" (the waiters choice of words.) When I said "the menu reads crab" when he said "its imitation crab, I replied " it should say that on the menu". He agreed with that, but nothing more was done to correct the fake crab issue. The lunch tab for 3 people came to $82.62. (Tip not included) We were there almost 2 hours (mostly waiting, it took about 20 minutes to eat the actual meal). Ive been fortunate enough to have had Sushi in California, and Florida, and Japan and Okinawa so I know what "good sushi" is like. This restaurant fell far short. I wasnt expecting spectacular food, just edible and maybe tasty. A lot of food was left on my plate, but when I was asked if I wanted to take it with me I think I shuddered visibly and said "No thank you". (The thought went through my head that I wouldnt even feed this to my dog) The surimi/sea sticks/imitation crab with the red dye on the outside is just plain bait and switch. This was my second visit to UMI, (the first was equally disappointing) and will be the last.

I ate there on 10/2/16 and when one of our orders came it had the wrong roll on the plate with other food items. The waiter was in the process of remaking the roll to the right one but 5 minutes later the waiter and manager came and the manager said he needed to take the wrong roll off of one of the plates we were already eating off of before he could bring the correct roll. How tacky. None of use were eating the wrong roll but they should have left it there and just bring the right roll. I spoke with the manager and he insisted that was normal procedure. I let him know I felt it was unprofessional it all felt uncomfortable. He said he was just following the rules of the restaurant and it was ok to do that. The waiter the whole time said he was so sorry and the whole ordeal was wrong, unprofessional and tacky but he could do nothing about it. The waiter would not take the food off of plate so the manager had to come behind him to do it. I could not seem to get the manager to understand that it was inappropriate to come after the fact and remove food from one of our plates after we started eating.

We use to love UMI for their sushi and the crab salad, but this past Sunday my husband and I decided to have dinner at UMI and unfortunately though the food was just ok and I was highly disappointed in where we was seated! Our whole meal was spent trying to talk loud enough to hear each other after they seated two families with several children around our table! One of the kids kept yelling loudly, then started climbing down and sitting almost right beside me while we were trying to eat! What we thought would be a nice quiet dinner like it usually is was anything but! We have always had wonderful QUIET meals at UMI, but honestly when we go for dinner I dont want to be set in the loudest part of the restaurant! Our meal was not enjoyable food quality was subpar and we most likely will not return!

First time Sushi and it was wonderful! Went with my daughters, who insisted I try the sushi, and I am glad I did. Lunch menu had a lot to choose from and I got the tempura shrimp box lunch. Even though it is fried, it was very light and crispy, not greasy at all, and the flavor was great. The place is sparkling clean, has a nice ambiance, and the service was excellent. The food presentation was very nice, and the prices were very reasonable, more than enough food for a lunch. They even served my daughter a cute dessert banana that was delicious, when we told them it was her birthday.

I am very picky when it comes to sushi. However I have no complaints about this place! Always fresh, never stale or fishy, and after over two dozen visits I still want more! The rolls: Godzilla, dynamite, sweetheart, and the sushi boat are my favs. Be sure to check out the lunch boxes for great value. Prepare for busy but pleasant service and they even have food for non-sushi people. Best sushi in western North Carolina I have found. Also, a foodie from Long Island NY, retired, exclaimed "this is world-class sushi!" I do not disagree. :)
