The Greek-owned, family restaurant is a well-established American stereotype: relatively inexpensive, massive menu, dessert case with impossibly large cakes, "specials" board boasting the days delights, etc. Harrisburg Family House fits cleanly into this picture. And thats no bad thing! On the contrary, the residents and motorsport-invited guests of the Harrisburg area have been consistently packing this place out for years, voting with their time and hard-earned cash in favor of owner Nicks particular brand of hospitality and reasonably-priced, excellently prepared food. When an unfortunate fire accident closed the restaurant down for many months not terribly long ago, you could sense (and sometimes actually hear) the bewilderment in many of our Towns people: "Where do we go to eat now?" Fortunately, the reopened version of the Harrisburg Family House kept all the positive qualities that it held before the fire, and was now able to deliver them in a freshly remodeled dining room that enjoyed the conversion from admittedly tacky NASCAR-themed decor to a much simplified, classier look. To recommend specific dishes here would diminish the fact that Im pretty sure anyone -- ANYONE -- can find something(s) here that they truly enjoy eating despite the modest costs. As for the massive cakes in the cooler? Good luck with that. Food portions here are so large that youll never be able to honestly answer "Yes" to, "Did you save room for dessert?"

Factory like! I felt like I was on an assembly line. With the name "family restaurant" my assumption would be a more personal feel. It was less about customer service and more about how many tables they could overturn. My husband ordered steak and eggs with grits...they brought out his eggs, grits and toast and said the steak was on the way! (I never had a restaurant bring out the sides without the protein) steak didnt come for another 8 mins! My husband was almost done with the grits and eggs by the time his steak came. Unacceptable! I ordered a bacon/egg/cheese omelet and got a bacon/egg minus the cheese? I got toast instead of biscuits...I needed more syrup for my pancakes but again the assembly line made me feel like I would be backing up the factory conveyor belt if I inconvenienced my server! At the end my husband went to pay I stayed at the table...The bus girl started clearing all our plates! When my husband got back and I tried to get up she was still reaching across the table to get plates cleared...I actually had to wait for her to get up to prevent us from bumping! Anyhow, in all fairness I am 38 weeks Prego so I considered that bit of bias in my overall score... Because of that I gave them an extra star, grant total of 1! But will not be back!

Have had nothing but left out items and trouble since I started ordering to-go from here weekly, and always had something missing from my order. I would call and let them know, not even asking them to replace it. I kept giving them chance after chance and finally after about the 5th time I called and spoke to the owner. I let him know I ordered from him all the time and have been having missing items from my order. He apologized and told me he would help me out with a free order next time. I went back and placed another to go order like usual, and did not even mention speaking with the manager, just paid for it like normal. But once again there was another issue, missing 2 items from my order. I spoke to the owner in person this time and he refused to help me. He acted completely different in person than he did on the phone. I left all the food there, made them give me a refund.. and refuse to ever go back.

Harrisburg Family House Restaurant is probably the best independent family restaurant in Harrisburg, but thats not saying much. The food is fine, the service is fine (though sometimes slow), and I appreciate the Mediterranean flavor instilled in the menu. The baklava is brilliant. But Harrisburg Family House Restaurant is at best a restaurant of convenience. Hungry and dont want to leave Harrisburg? Sure, this place will do. Should you consider this a place that you need to visit and try? No. The Charlotte area restaurant scene is too good compared to this place. If my grandparents want to go out, the food here is fine, the service decent, and Ive never had any issues. But, if thinking of places to go with friends while out, I wouldnt suggest or bring up the Harrisburg Family House Restaurant.

If you have a party of more than 2 forget it. Especially at weekends. We went and there were 6 of us, 4 adults and 2 little kids. They got very offended that we couldnt fit into a regular sized booth and deliberately left the large table uncleaned "its not been cleaned " after 30 minutes in the hot waiting area we asked about the several small tables they had placed together for a previous party. Thereupon they immediately separated them again... We decided then to leave. The food just isnt that great, its certainly not worth the overcrowding and wait time. It can take 20 minutes just to pay your bill, who does paper bills and lining up to pay anymore?

Had breakfast here this morning. Walked in the restaurant and received hard stares from a couple of tables. Actually saw a older man at a table point at me and say something to the person at his table. That man then turned and glared at me. Im sure I dont know that was about. Anyway....on to the review of service and food. Hostess not every personable...borderline rude. Food looked good when it was served. Thats where everything went downhill. Food was tasteless. Eggs soggy. If you had blindfolded me and asked me to tell you what I just ate, I would only be able to identify it by the consistency, not the taste or the smell.

The only thing i eat when i go is their liver and onions. Which are fantastic!!! But what kinda place serves southern style food, and doesnt have apple cider vinegar to go on your turnip greens????? Ask for vinegar and they give you balsamic vinegar. That is just pitiful. The manager told me Im the 1st to ever say anything about it. Hun, you are in the middle of the deep south, aint nobody got time for that. I bet they waste a lot of greens, because i refused mine and got another side item. Please get some apple cider vinegar!!!!!!! Back to the liver and onions....i must say, it it some of the best ive ever had

Good restaurant... definitely has its shortcomings but overall good food, good value, good service... entree portions are good... appetizer not so much. Food is tasty, but not the best youve ever had... yet, among the best when you compare family diners in the surrounding areas... Top 15 family diner in Charlotte metro... probably top 5 in Harrisburg... pros- good food, value and service... cons- schedule closes early, dining room is a bit crowded... but thats understandable... overall value+service equal a 4☆... but will update review on next experience. I do recommend.

Tried them 3 times and I am done. 1st time was terrible service, this generally doesnt stop me from a return visit because I will give a restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Second time...bad service again so at that point I said I was done. Well then so a year passes and I figure ok one more time and.... Service was fine but the food is just mediocre. Lasagna tastes like a frozen Stouffers nothing special at all and overpriced. Food Quality: Average Service: Below average Price: Overpriced 3 strikes you are out.
