We ordered our favorite meal: chicken tikka masala with rice, garlic naan, and vegetable samosas with chutney. We ordered for take-out. The chicken tikka masala was most disappointing; the portion looks generous at first, until you realize its a lot of sauce and big chunks of onion. You have to hunt around the bowl for the six or eight little cubes of chicken buried in there. The flavor wasnt great - too sweet and it didnt have that characteristic masala taste. The garlic naan was also just okay, ours was undercooked and had big chunks of barely-cooked garlic. The samosas were the best part of our meal, and the mango chutney (ordered separately) was actually really tasty. All in all it wasnt the worst meal, but we wont be ordering from India Gate again. There are too many other places that serve good Indian food to waste our money here.

Staff were pleasant, but it wouldnt have mattered. I come to restaurants for food, not a hotel stay. The food is good for a first time Indian experience. But if youre accustomed to eating a variety of Indian cuisine, youll find a previous reviewer to be right - - most of the base curry here tastes the same. The naan is particularly good, but I dont come to just eat bread. The butter chicken is incredible. The food here is good for what it is, and I dont have any complaints per se. I just think there are better Indian establishments within a few miles radius. As with most things in life, personal taste varies with each individual and I would encourage you to give this establishment a try. You wont walk away regretting it, but it might not rank at the top of your Indian list.

This is by far the best and cleanest one around. I have a sensitive stomach.. and typically after a visit to any Indian restaurant, there is always need to visit restroom within an hours time. Typically due to additives and method of cooking, etc that goes in. So, after I visited this place, I told my friend, I need to get home before too late. lol . Well.. 6 hours later...its still sticking. I must admit, after many years this was a surprise change. I am perfectly fine with Indian foods cooked at home and I can tell this tasted like homemade and it stayed in like homemade food. The food tastes very good, the service is good, the choice is good. I learned that is completely operated by family..a true mom and pop shop. I will be there again with my family.

I hate to ever give a restaurant a single star, especially when the only staff member with whom I spoke was so friendly, but I must. Of literally hundreds of meals I have eaten in Indian homes and restaurants, this was absolutely the most memorable, for all the wrong reasons. I feel like the majority of ingredients used are frozen at best, and it generally had a "from a can" quality. The abuse of salt was so egregious that my new blood type must be sodium chloride. The kheer was sour, and the gulab jamun, my favorite Indian dessert, was spit out. Yes, I, a grown man, literally spit my food out. I sincerely hope this was. Just a bad day.

Top notch lunch buffet. Fresh nan brought to the table. Tikka Masala chicken was spicier than typically served but much appreciated and very tasty. Tandoori chicken was tasty and plentiful. Veggie dishes were also well done. They also have papadum which is unusual as well as a pleasant vegetable soup. Id rank this is one of the best Indian buffets youll find in the area. And I totally buy the "family run" image people say. The folks are pleasant and attentive and friendly. Many times Indian restaurants feel excessively formal and stuffy. Not here. For this part of the world $10 for a lunch buffet is priced about right.

Tucked away in the corner of a shopping plaza downhill off Hwy 54 West in Durham, but worth finding. Have done take-out for dinner from here 4-5 times and the food has been delicious every time. They have the best naan in the Triangle -- Im particular to the garlic naan. Have had the lamb saag, the karahi gosht, the goat biryani and the lamb vindaloo. Have been happy with all. And the prices are better than some Indian restaurants in the area. Husband-wife team runs it -- he cooks, she handles front of the house. The decor looks like you stepped into their dining room at their house. Very quaint/comfortable.

Coworkers from Taiwan are in town this week so I decided to take them to awesome Indian food we can always enjoy in RTP. Ive been here once last year and loved it, so I thought taking them here should be good to go. Everyone loved it! Chicken masala, goat curry, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, shrimp korma...and of course, naan is the must when you are in an Indian restaurant! Super friendly staff! I am gonna come back by myself next time to try the most spicy level of food (medium is not spicy at all to me...)

My fiancee and I came here earlier today and we LOVED it!! The service was professional, its a buffet, but you can ask for a menu. We liked that they had descriptions above all the food in the buffet, and the food definitely exceeded our expectations. We especially enjoyed the atmosphere: slightly dimmed lighting, authentic music in the background, interesting decor, etc... All of this for a reasonable price, too. Highly recommend! We plan on coming back at least one a week.

The food was delicious at a price thats fairly reasonable. The staff members are friendly and courteous. We had a group outing that arrived about 30 min before closing time, and the staff stayed late to serve us. That was much appreciated as we were all starving and it was too late to move to another place. The place is somewhat hard to see from driving by, and the surrounding establishments are somewhat sketchy. The parking lot is small and limited.

An honest review. I had the most awful experience in the restaurant. The waiter is impolite, there are limited choices in the buffet. Most curries are made with the same base and they taste the same, no matter what their names are, It is absolutely pathetic. They dont appreciate your feedback and say this is how it is, You want to take those $$ of yours and go to another restaurant even if its a little farther away.

One of the best Indian meals we have ever enjoyed, in a warmly gracious family atmosphere. The service was kind and attentive, the food incredible. The owner runs the kitchen and his wife manages the front of the house. Their two children handle table service with rare grace and charm. Certainly one of the best dining experiences my family and I have ever had. Highly and enthusiastically recommended!!

Had butter chicken, malai kofta and paneer butter masala with tawa Roti and naan. Overall a good deal for the money spent. Avoid paneer dishes anywhere in USA because the quality of Paneer isnt close to what it is in India. Appeared to be hygienic but would visit their kitchen next time before ordering food. One needs to be careful about cleanliness at any restaurant serving international cuisine.

My wife and I went to this restaurant for the first time. We had chicken briyani and chicken butter, and mixed appetizers. They were delicious and tasty. We went to the restaurant a half an hour before they closed the kitchen, yet they did pretty good job accommodating and well preparing our orders. I would def recommend it. Also, the owners are the nicest people on earth.
