I went to H+H for the first time today and was impressed by the sleek modern decor, the quick service, and the variety of offerings for a salad bar. I ordered the Ahi Poke Salad and it was delicious. However, after a few bites I found a cotton string in the salad. I discretely asked an employee about it. He was immediately apologetic, made a fresh order for me within moments, and provided me and my friend with free cookies. The manager came over to my table and explained H+H uses use clean cloths to cover the Ahi tuna at the prep station between servings, which is what the string was from. He said it wasnt acceptable for an inedible to wind up in my meal and was profusely apologetic. I wasnt upset, I used to do food service I know sometimes accidents happen. They fact that they addressed the issues so quickly and took it seriously was very professional, and I appreciate it. Ill be eating there again, Id like to try a lot more of their salads! Also the kombucha passion flower tea is delicious.

Im a huge fan of the concept and food in theory, but the inconsistency of what you receive here ruins the experience. Every time Ive been (which is frequently because I work right around the corner) theyve messed up the order, the service has been ridiculously slow and/or what I receive is significantly different from someone else, despite ordering the exact time (i.e. size, proportion of grain to meat or greens, amount of avocado, etc.). I keep going back hoping theyve worked out the kinks, but I think its more worth your money to go serve yourself at Whole Foods. And the lack of policy for employees hair makes me nervous; apparently theyre not required to pull it back fully, and its just asking to end up in an order.

I visited the 9th Street location this morning after a quick Google on healthy breakfast restaurants. After reading the reviews, I thought I would give them a try. I had The Scramble" with a nice portion of veggies, cheese and quinoa, plus I added tofu. Very, very delicious!! The staff were very nice, the restaurant was bright and clean. My food was served in a recyclable bowl with a sticker on top with a thoughtful message on life. I will definitely return, maybe check them out for lunch one day. Ive only been once, so no 5-star rating.....yet!

If youve ever been to Sweetgreen in NY/DC/LA, this is essentially the exact same thing...with smoothies. And its a good thing Sweetgreen is so good, because Happy + Hale is just as awesome. Theyve got incredibly fresh produce, great dressings and everything you need for the tastiest salad ever. I can also vouch for the smoothies, which are a tad pricey but really good.

Love this place and I know its worth the price but wish they had a small bowl and smoothie option. Food and smoothies are delicious! I dont like kombucha but they do have it on tap. Very friendly staff. One time I was here and they had run out of mint for their drinks and they went out of their way to make me something tasty to replace a mojito.

Love Happy + Hale! Great location on 9th street. Cool vibe, really like the open spacing. My favorite is the Walters Harvest but all Salads and Smoothies are really good and healthy. Juices are great too, but only tried a couple. Also has a Yoga studio in the back if you are into that. Highly recommend and a great addition to 9th Street!

The food here is great. I know its cheesy to say this, but every time I leave here, I leave happy. Im not always one to be convinced to eat meals with solely vegetables, but this place could convince me to seriously reconsider all of what Ive been eating. Because they just make a salad thats so damn good.

Great salad place. Very hipster, I think the menu is overly complicated. Would be better to just let you pick all the toppings. Avocado dressing is legit and protein bowl is what I always order. Great catering options for business for personalized bowls.

This place is AMAZING!! They have just updated their menu and the new items are just as great as the standard items they already had. Great atmosphere and everyone there is genuinely friendly every single time I go.

BEAUTIFUL new space that exudes good vibes. I highly recommend the Hale Mary smoothie, the Protein Bowl, or The Scramble in a wrap. Pro tip: ask for a side of the honey Sriracha for your wrap, its on point!

Great healthier options among the many food places on the block. Ahi poke bowls are so good! And the smoothies are delicious. Gets busy from noon to 2 but to be expected being so close to Duke

No quirks or gimmicks . . . just good, simple, honest food! Everything is bright, fresh, and packed with flavor. The Ahi Poke Bowl is easily one of the tastiest things in Durham!

Decent smoothie (Hail Mary) and Walters Harvest was good. Place is always packed, but ingredients are fresh and ripe, which is all that really matters

Super slow service (even if not crowded). Waited 20+min for avocado toast. Expensive. Really cute, wanted to love it, but the execution doesnt work.

Contemporary and intimate chic college and YoPro (young professionals) spot for vegan and gluten-free food! Parking is sparse but its worth the wait!

Have only gone for the smoothies. Favorite is the City of Oats and the Hale Mary. Delicious smoothies without the big chain smoothie store vibe.
