So, we have lived in Asheville for about 6 months and have been thoroughly enjoying the dining scene and decided to give Tupelo Honey, downtown location a visit for dinner. We decided due to the heat to dine inside and get a flavor for the place. At the door we were greeted by the hostess, who was not extremely friendly and was in the process of being snotty to a diner who was requesting service from their waiter who had seemingly disappeared. Red Flag #1. As we were being led to our table both my husband and I being of sure feet & sound minds literally skated along the greasy laminate floor. When we remarked about the seemingly dangerous condition it was in, the hostess made a flippant remark as if it was our personal problem. Red Flag #2 After sitting at our table for more than a few minutes in the virtually empty dining area we were finally greeted by our waiter. No menu descriptions given, no drink specials (this was Wednesday) and he was in a large hurry to take the order. He seemed not to have much experience as a waiter or maybe just didnt really care to wait on tables. After my husbands salad was brought to the table, I wondered where mine was and had to flag our waiter down. Well of course he didnt pay attention to what I had ordered and got it wrong. My salad then had to be made & it was still the wrong one! Red Flag #3 Well we did get some biscuits, which in my opinion were rather dry, and the temperature wasnt piping hot out of the oven, on the stale side. The honey was good and the blueberry jam was flavorful. Arrival of the entrees. Husband ordered the meatloaf plate and said it was ok. I tasted the meatloaf. The flavor & texture and portion was reasonable but by no means anything gourmet. I ordered the blackened catfish topped with a summer salsa and goat cheese grits. Nice sized portion, and that is the only good thing I can say about the dish. It was BLAND, BLAND & BLAND, I was thoroughly disappointed!!! Red Flag #4 As we left our table and walked by the bar I noticed a large puddle of water on the floor. Not one staff member seemed concerned about it and was attempting to clean up the mess. I ran out of flags... So, my friends there are many delicious & delightful restaurants in Asheville and the surrounding communities with many hardworking chefs and staff who will prepare wonderful mouth watering meals for you at comparable prices. Go, seek them out and leave Tupelo Honey for the tourist crowd who will be impressed with pseudo southern fare and wish to dine at what I can best describe as a upscale Cracker Barrel!

It was good! Very pricey for the food, which was mediocre. The burger, which Im not proud of eating all of (dont judge me,.at this point of starving, I wouldve eaten the actual cow itself), made me sick as a dog. And, it was well over cooked for what I asked for. The bloody Mary ($15 a pop) was fantastic.... but, there is so much stuff shoved in the drink itself, that if you pull all of it out, you have mayyyybe 3/4 an actual glass. $15..... you need to leave the "decorations" on top and mildly in the drink itself. A huge bacon strip, 3 gigantic olives shoved in, huhe celery stalk, and An ENTIRE OKRA? To each their own, I suppose. One glass was enough for him. The staff was very..ish friendly, some didnt wear deodorant, which was verrry evident. Also not what I want to smell while waiting 35 mins for our first round of drinks, burger, shrimp and grits. We had 3 tables, 4 top included, that got their apps and actual food before us. The drinks were, literally, randomly filled by whoever..... whenever. We got there fairly early, after being told of a wait by several friends, still waited almost 2 1/2 hours. From the time we got there, to getting our tab for our actual order. We had to go to the restaurant 2 stops up to kill time and eat something small, just so we wouldnt be hangry when the waiter/ess got there. Which, we still cant tell you who they actually were. It is something for a first timer to try, but.... We dropped $90 on brunch. And didnt even eat the leftovers.

Went to the Hendersonville Rd location. 30-45 minutes wait, yet the restaurant was empty (we were told that it was reserved for a large party), which after an hour and a half had YET to arrive. We were seated in the worst possible table and were told by the (one too many) hostess that it was the only table. Crammed by the front door, I had servers bumping me, customers bumping me and the waiting customers lined up beside my table. For 15 minutes , my view was literally of old peoples butts. When a nearby booth came available, I matter of factly told the hostess that we are changing tables and our server was "pissy" because we werent in her section anymore and she had to transfer a ticket (we had not even ordered at that point) The meal (and menu) itself was something that had to make me question what all the fuss was about with this place. I ordered a chicken sandwich, which I dont know how one can even screw this up, but was probably the WORST chicken sandwich I ever had. Bland, tasted like "burnt toast" and only took two bites. Yes the biscuits, jelly and potatoes were tasty, but nothing I couldnt have made at home (and have, only mine is much better. ) Our daughter hated the shrimp tacos, my wife did enjoy her veggie melt though. Honestly gotta say, that I hope it was just an off night for them (a Friday at 8pm) considering all the other glowing reviews I see on here, but they wont have me as a customer again.

From the moment I arrived in Asheville, everyone recommended THC. I was very excited at the thoughts of the Eggs Crawly as many people I talked with suggested it as one of the best dishes in Asheville. So you can imagine how very let down I was when I received my Eggs crawly with under cooked eggs and over cooked crab cakes. But what really made the whole experience worse was the staff and handling of my undercooked eggs. When my food arrived at my table I cut into my eggs, the waitress noticed they were under cooked and stated “Wow, those need to go back to the kitchen” I told her I appreciated her noticing. She removed the plate, as I watched this play out I was amazed at what happened next. The waitress took my plate to the manager, she took the plate and showed it to the Hostess who then took it to the kitchen staff, my plate was then put under a shelve (from where I sat I could see all of this) two new eggs were prepared and placed on the plate with my now cold crab cakes and asparagus. I was astonished that the same plate of half cold food was sat before me after being passed around. The waitress that noticed the eggs never returned and the women that delivered the eggs to me was rude and unfriendly. For $12.50 breakfast I could have gone to a number of other restaurants and had a much better meal.

My wife and I arrived for breakfast at 10:15 on a Monday. We sat at the three barstools observing the kitchen. I ordered the crab cakes Hollandaise with poached eggs. The chef carefully timed the crab cakes and eggs to finish together with my wifes entrée. The sous chef, however, ruined the eggs, then delayed in correcting the error. Then they discovered that there was no Hollandaise ready. I got cold crab cakes with, finally, correctly poached eggs...and a wrong side order to which I was allergic. I got the side substituted. The replacement was cold. The asparagus was cold. Only the poached eggs were hot--the rest had been sitting over a quarter hour after completion. My wifes pancakes had absorbed the butter placed atop them for presentation in that time, so they replaced it without consultation, doubling the butterfat calories. By the time we left, it was lunchtime. The manager comped my entrée after hearing and fact-checking my concerns. Thats the best she could do at that point. Still, I dont come to a nationally-known restaurant to get cold food after a delay of over a half hour. Its not worth ones time to visit here given the other fine options nearby.
