Full disclosure: I havent eaten at many brunch places in NYC but I feel this place does it right. Maybe its because Im a Southerner, but it seems like the brunch portions in this city are smaller than what I am used to, which is actually a good thing. As with any brunch place, you want to get here early and be prepared to wait. Our table was cozy, but not too cramped as I have plenty of room to freely move. Im not sure how often they make their menus, but, at this time, they are cute little pop-up cards that simply state the dish and price. A few of us ordered the strawberry lemonade (non-alcoholic) and it was probably the best altered version of the drink Ive ever had. It even came with a freshly sliced piece of watermelon! It was not too sweet, light, and very refreshing especially on a hot summer day. My girlfriend and I split a crepe with Nutella which was buttery, hazelnut goodness. Im glad we split it because it was probably too sweet to eat on my own. I ordered to waffle sandwich which was more like half the waffle was leaning on the other half. All the flavors of the bacon, eggs, cheese, and butter coalesced to create a magic food experience. Again, the portion was smaller than Im used to but was the right amount of food. I didnt feel like it was very heavy either, which is a very good thing. Ive seen other people comment about the food being pricey, but I think theyre wrong. To me, the price is right on the money (pun intended). Besides, this is New York City brunch, not Dennys. You should expect better quality in your food. Try this place out and get that watermelon lemonade if they have it! You wont be sorry.

Came here with 2 friends for dinner on a Monday night at 8pm. Was told the wait would be 45 minutes but the host kept passing us up after that. This French dbag host could hardly do his friggin job right since all he was doing was flirting with the women waiting for a table or nowhere to be found. Had to remind him repeatedly that my group of 3 was still waiting since all he did was write names on a big chalkboard with no apparent order. Finally seated and ordered a few plates. The food was average to good - definitely not great or memorable so dont pressure yourself to try a lot. Its a true neighborhood restaurant and youd come here for the ambience. We ordered a few tartines and the only one I could remember was the one with anchovies and capers because it was not good. It was over salted and the giant capers on top appeared to be only good for garnishing because it was too big and the flavor overbearing. We also got the coq au vin and the chilled lamb. We liked the lamb a lot but the coq au vin was just all right. It was very homemade tasting - as in good but not something youd expect at a place or price like this. Finally we ordered the tart tatin for dessert and it was DISGUSTING. I actually spat it out because it tasted like canned apples. Even Steph, who loves all dessert could barely stomach it. It was like a dessert from the 1960s. Way too sweet and had no texture or hint that it came from the natural world. All in all, wouldnt come here unless I lived here.

The place has the obvious charm of any confined "cozy" space with the perfect lighting and special touches like the bathroom and even the downstairs or backstage area. More on this later. Also, loved the chandelier, which was very haphazard and appropo. We began with hazelnut pesto tartines and a caprese salad. Not very French at all. The hazelnut pesto is not your usual pesto, it was a little sweet with a hint of orange. A lot more mild than a pesto. Flavor is more about the nuts than an herb. Caprese salad was made of all cherry tomatoes and a fresh ball of mozzerella. Next, I had the octopus salad, which was refreshingly citrusy and light. He had the braised rabbit. Have I ever told you about the time I had a pet rabbit? I fed him/her nonstop because rabbits look funny when they eat. So it goes, that was the first time I had rabbit. Friday nights rendition was great, Served in a mini dutch oven and perfectly tender - very country home cooking. The sauce had the perfect consistency for dipping too. Dessert: classic tart tatin and chocolate mousse, both rather rustic. Wasnt extraordinary but did not disappoint either. The bathroom was perfect, seriously, go take a look.

The European vibe is very chic and classy. I usually am not a big sucker for ambiance, but this place feels special and quaint. I should warn you, it is fairly expensive for the portion size and simplicity of the dishes, but the quality is high. I came here for brunch with two others and didnt have too much of a wait. The decor was charming and the staff was accommodating and friendly. However, our table was super tiny - likely more appropriate for just one individual or two really tiny individuals - but for three people, but we managed and only spilled one glass of water! We tried the avocado toast which was buttery and scrumptious. We also tried the waffle which was tiny but had fresh plump berries and tasty cream. The only thing which I thought was slightly odd was that they did not have nonfat milk!

A West Village / French favorite! Everything here is tiny and cute - the plates and cups, the tables and stools, the space itself, the food/portions, the outdoor patio. The food is delicious but portions are pretty small for the price, so expect to order a couple things or a bunch of dishes to share at the table. Great spot for breakfast/brunch, especially on weekday mornings when its less crowded. Go when its nice weather and sit on the back patio/porch! Highly recommend the waffle or avocado toast or the omelette special (if they have it) for breakfast, along with any of their coffee drinks. For dinner, coq au vin is incredible, artichoke is a good shareable dish for a group, and a selection of cheeses is a must - especially paired with any of their solid list of wines.

This charming little French place serves small plates of traditional Gallic fare in a beautiful setting. The space, like the servings, are small, and most of the larger tables are communal. Being a traditional French place, there arent a lot of vegetarian options, but I had a bread dish with cheese, caramelized onions, and walnuts that was superb, and the cheeses are wonderful. I wasnt as crazy about a shaved brussels sprouts salad, though. Theres a sophisticated wine list, and the menus are darling, printed like pamphlets on letterpress paper with a pop-out graphic in the middle. For the serving sizes, prices here are on the slightly higher end, but considering the quality, theyre worth it. I would come here more often if the menu included more meatless dishes.

Cute little French breakfast spot! A little more on the pricey side but wasnt disappointed since I knew that going in. Everything there from the madeleines to the meals were delicious! I got the special of the day which was avocado toast with Lox, cucumbers and a slightly spiced yogurt. The lox was the best Ive ever had; very flavorful and light without being too smoked or salty. It was complimented beautifully by the creamy yogurt topping as well with the perfect amount of crunch from the toast and cucumber. My boyfriend got light fluffy eggs and prosciutto that was also out of this world. We will be back on our next visit! Great work Buvette team!
