Truth be told, I wasnt expecting anything great from this restaurant or ANY OTHER "Indian restaurant". Ive had way too many disappointments--especially in the Lower East Side and Flushing areas and as well as NJ--lots of disappointments. If you want great food that is about 10-times better than most "famous" restaurants (Pongal, etc etc), for the 1/4-of the cost, this is the place. Hands down the best Ive tasted so far in NYC--that in itself is a sad statement for me post! But terribly happy that Mumbai Xpress is (one of) the lone, bright spots in Indian cuisine in NYC (at least of the ones I am aware of). Having said that, from the first bite of the first order (Gobi Manchuri), to the last bite of the last order (Mysore Masala Dosa), and everything in between, was just brilliant! Fresh ingredients, clean service, spot-on taste! Idlis were fluffy and proof that it was made from scratch. Same goes for the vadas and the sambar that comes with it! Dosas were surprisingly made from scratch as well! The Bhel Puri, and Samosa Chaat, and other street foods from back home, were also brilliant! The low point is that the service can be a bit slow, but it is a tiny sacrifice for great food, thats the least of your worries and its good to enjoy great food with the luxury of time. The kitchen was clean, the washrooms were clean, the ambience was simple. This is THE place for good eats. Serious eats--worth the 35-40-mins drive from Upper East Side! The really tough sell is public transportation (1.5-hrs or so from UES--yikes!) Highly recommend this place and it is a must visit!

GEM of a place if you like great street food with cozy sitting and good service (don’t compare it with Zagat 5-star stuff, look at the price). Very affordable family run place, with some employees for the extra help, of course. They (the owners) were very friendly and the servers were great. Food is 5-star, attention to presentation detail and clean eating area. Did not use the restroom so won’t guess comment. We had Hakka Noodles (made to order, no chilies for kids), Chole Bhatura (extra 2 Bhaturas) and Garlic Masala Dosa. We gave it a finishing with Mumbai Falooda and Rabdi Kulfi Falooda deserts. Totaled to about $46, for 4 of us. All is served in a fast food fashion, in disposable plates, etc. Waiting time for food was 8-10 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. I have attached a scan of their latest prices as of APRIL 2017. Average bill should be in the range of 8-15 depending on the splurge you do. Do tip them at the counter, when paying for an eat-in, take outs do not need be tipped. Mumbai Xpress is a take-out or eat in family room (means they have high chairs) and restroom for customers. It is in Floral Park, Queens, NY, on the north side of Hillside Blvd between 256 and 257 streets, about 3 lights EAST from CIE (Cross Island Expressway) exit 28A. Parking is 1 hour 9AM-7PM (Except Sunday, like all of NYC) on Hillside Ave. If you chose to park in between streets then free. I highly recommend this place and do plan to return to this place often when the craving for that food type springs up.

Affordable, delicious, vegetarian Indian food, with both north and south cuisine. The atmosphere is very casual and you seat yourself and pay at the counter, and receive your dishes on disposable trays since it is "fast food" style. Ive came here and had the onion masala Dosa which is bigger than my arm, and my friend has had the veggie burger and both were great. The servers are very friendly and always like to recommend items! If you have an eating restriction or are vegan, let them know and they will recommend you items.

The best place for Spicy Indian Snacks in the go. The sitting is very limited but you have to visit this place if you are in town for Indian snacks. Good menu options for low prices. Staff is very warm and welcoming. You must try Wadapav and Khichadi. Parking is bit hard to find but you can find it in nearby streets. Overall great place for Brunch and snacks.

I often visit this place and they have very large selection of delicious food. We never disappointed with any dish. Taste is consistent for all dishes all the time. We had party of friends and ordered for gujarati thali for 20 people, it was amazing. Everybody loved it. Thanks to owner and who cooked the meal. We will keep going back.

Rating this place with a halfstar would have been better.Waiting time is so high as if you are waiting for a very special dish.Just worthless to wait for 40 minutes even to get one dosa and two chats which doesnt even taste good. Food doesnt have any flavor and taste. Just go to this place to waste your money.

Authentic Mumbai street and cafe good. Dosas are excellent. Mumbai cheese sandwich is better than Ive have eaten in Mumbai. Simple and a nice change from some of the more pedestrian Indian restaurant

A vegetarian place with great many options. I am not a big fan of the food as i feel the portion sizes are on the small side and not enough spices for me. My family likes this place though.

Excellent food but with only problem and that is space. Too small. Avoid going there on weekends evening to have a more relaxing and enjoyable experience. Food is tasty though

We always like this place but last time I went i ordered noodles it looked like that unprofessional Chef cooked it. The quantity was less compared to the price of $9

On and off they end up being better than even mumbai food but lots of time food stays mediocre too. However its a must go once place to decide next course of action.

Small and overcrowded. Take forever to bring food. Do not do during winter. Their door does not close properly and you are shivering inside.
