i am from NYC. i have eaten at plenty of the finest general and specialty restaurants, with the highest Zagat ratings and reviews, in all 5 boroughs as far out as east Hampton. I can say and affirm with all honesty. This restaurant had the FINEST SERVICE i have ever had the pleasure of experiencing in a restaurant anywhere in NY. I was literally taken aback by how swiftly this packed place on a Saturday evening could attentively seat us. As soon as someone gets up from their table, they had the table cleaned, clear, ready with fresh water and clean silverware in the 30 seconds it took for us to walk over, while the the other party was leaving(mind blown). The food was timely. The waiter actual took our order for the appetizers, brought them to us with our drinks, let us enjoy ourselves, than came back and took our order for the main course which arrived less than five minutes from our appetizers being finished. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS, and Im very critical. On top of that...Everytime we finished with a fork, knife, or spoon, one of the servers would spot that we had put the used silverware down and would remove it, only to return it to me cleaned in less than a moment(jawdropping). We literally had fresh silverware the entire evening through 3 courses. Are you ready for the icing on this amazing cake...the owner or manager of the establishment was going around with a smile asking everyone how their meal and experience was thus far(a long forgotten courtesy). Of course i could hardly wait for him to ask me! This was all while a large wedding party was going on in the catering part of the hall. AKBAR remains very true to its Magnificent name, being by far THE GREATEST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE IVE HAD THUS FAR. The only thing i am disgusted by are these google reviewers looking for a reason not to give this excelsior establishment, a less than excellent review. You all should be ashamed of yourselves! Please dont go back, because i would like for it to be filled with people like me who know what quality is and appreciate phenomenal food and service. I am in love and definitely will put it in my budget to be a regular here.

Overall an average meal for above average price with mediocre service / environment Food: My husband and I ordered Chiken tikka masala, which had excellent quality meat, naan was good but the sauce was uninspiring, despite being noted as a "house specialty". - My husband ordered his extra white-person mild (as he is really intolerant of the slightest spiciness), and for some reason they made it sweet. - My chicken tikka masala, by contrast, which I ordered medium spicy, was barely spicy at all (even to my husband, who think plain chipotle meat is "fire" it had only a hint of burn). This lack of spiciness was especially dissapointing because we actually specifically went out for indian so I could get something spicy to help decongest my sinuses. - Naan portions were small for price, although excellent quality and obviously fresh - My husband got mango lassi which was room temperature with ice added and weak in flavor Service: -Generally polite, and very appropriate with water refills, but completely ignored that I finished my soda before we even got our entrees, and eventually just cleared the glass without offering me another or anything. Never asked if we needed anything else until the end to even give an opportunity for me to ask for another - we had to wait for a while after we finished before we even had an opportunity to ask for the check Environment: - parking was frustrating and poorly marked though there was, apparently a valet we almost didnt find them Overall, overpriced for what we got, but not as bad as much indian food we have had, as the meat quality is well above average. Might go again, but would not explicitly recommend.

STAY AWAY!!! We went to Akbar today for lunch buffet. Cant believe the options were so meagre. The only appetizer was "Chicken Tandoori"... vegetarians forget about appetizers, no pakoras, no chili chicken... unbelievable. When it comes to the entree options... you are in luck if you are a vegetarian, out of the five options available, 4 are veg... Dal makhani --- amazingly bland, no taste at all. Aloo matar -- just boiled potatoes and peas... in a curry gravy..thats all vegetable jhalfrezi --- a medley of vegetables palak paneer --- this is by far the only palatable option of the four, tastes really nice. if you are keen on non-veg the only option u will find is the lamb curry... which surprisingly tastes the same as the vegetable jhalfrezi.... There was vegetable pulao also, however I was surprised to see the waiter refill it with only plain pulao...no a speck of peas or carrots in the refill ... All this for $12.95 ???? Not even close to a good eat. We have been visiting Akbar for over a couple of years now, the restaurant seems to be going all downhill... Want a great indian experience , there are a bunch of them to visit on Broadway in Hicksville... Akbar..a HUGE disappointment.

I was not impressed with the quality of the food, most of the dishes were very simple in thier flavors, there was nothing very complex to show a unique flare. Iv never managed to see a place screw up naan bread but mine was so thick it wasnt very enjoyable as the appetiser it should be. I tried a lamb dish, and while i recognise that you can leave bones in for flavor, i was surprised to be stabbed by a few sharp bone fragments hidden in the opaque brown gravy, if i had a child that could have choked on these i would have been furious. I then found numerous large cuts of fat which wasnt at all appetising and reflected upon a failure to trim the meat, and this particular dish overall was probibly up there in the worst ive ever had in my life, although the gravy itself was flavorful. The building itself was very large and ornate and gave the place a very upscale vibe. Its worth a second try i would say, the only thing this place had going was the staff and the atmosphere cause, so i think as an overall review dispite the food sucking horribly, i will still award 3 stars.

Hands down, this is the greatest restaurant ever! My family and I have been going here ever since I was a kid and even though this is a bit far from our house, we make the commute because it is well worth it and we refuse to go anywhere else! The staff at this restaurant treat you like family and provide great service! Ive tried many Indian restaurants over the years and none of them even begin to compare to the amazing food of Akbar. They run a great promotion for take-out too, if you are ever in a rush. Some great dishes that I recommend are paneer makhani, palak paneer, malai kofta, and any of the desserts. The owner is super sweet and goes to EVERY table to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. The location is perfect too; once you are done shopping in Roosevelt Field, you can go eat some delicious Indian food! You will never find a restaurant with better food and service anywhere, I guarantee it! =)

Akbar is, without a doubt, one of the best Indian restaurants Ive ever been to. Im a frequent customer who has always been impressed by the consistency of the service and quality of the food. I would definitely recommend the chicken malai kebab and the lamb chops. They have excellent vegetarian dishes as well, like the paneer makhani and the saag paneer. Their mango lassi is the best Ive ever had, as Ive been trying to figure out what they put in it for years! The service is always excellent, as the waiters are very attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Akbar has a great ambiance, suitable for a date or a big family dinner.I would recommend Akbar to anyone who enjoys good quality Indian food! Definitely not comparable to ihop, seeing how last time I checked they dont serve Indian food.
