UPDATE: I tried the BBQ today. Large, sumptuous, and flavorful. World-class. I met Krissy (yes, thats the correct spelling), a bartender who was on her first day on the job. She spoke to me for the entire hour I was there. Incredible. Also, I met Anthony, the other co-owner. Hes there 7 days a week and was busy examining all sorts of things at 12:30 on a Saturday. Fantastic. When I walked into the Long Island Pour House for the first time two hours ago, I thought to myself, "OK, this place looks just like the last place (Maroon). They didnt really change much." It was right then that I knew it was going to be a huge success. So I was with my friend Ray, it was 5:30, and we sat down at the bar. We had no idea what to do, so, as one might expect, we asked the bartender (Ashley), who was kind, courteous, and knowledgeable. She said: "I take a credit or debit card for collateral, give you each a bracelet, and, when you find a beer you want to try, press the bracelet against the logo above the beer you want ... the light will turn green; then, simply pull the lever down, serve yourself some beer, and enjoy!" So we went over to get some beer, and the selections were incredible: American, German, local (which I love--supporting the community), etc. But as I was there, a man (who, based on his outfit, looked like the chef) asked if I could step aside for just one moment. He needed to take a picture of the beer selection really quick. After he did so, I pulled him aside and said, "Dude--this place is awesome. And whats crazy is that this location has always been a bane for business. Look at the last place [Maroon]. How long did it last? Three months? Six?" He nodded, and I mentioned how great (and good-looking, lol) all the staff were. He expressed amazement at how he originally hired about thirty people. Not all of them lasted, but the ones that are still there are just incredible. Smart, hard-working, reliable. I nodded in complete agreement. He asked me if I tried the food yet, and I said I hadnt. He mentioned (again, in almost a surprised manner) that the food happens to be very good (something with which my fellow reviewers here seem to agree), and I said Ill definitely try it next time. We talked about the beer selection. He said he tries to mix it up, and I said "Yeah dude, its incredible. You have 20. As long as you have 20 really good, specific beers, youll be golden," and he seemed to agree. We talked about the crowd. "Does it get busy here?" "Well," he said, "from 5--9 its the Billy Joel crowd [it was currently 5:45 on a Friday, and he was right, and the live music was fantastic]. Then around 9 the young people start coming in, and we have a DJ. And get this--I cant explain this, its crazy--a lot of girls come here. Its really weird. I honestly dont know why." My eyes lit up and I said, "Joe, Im gonna be honest with you here for a second. Im starting a new job next week, and I might make some money. Also, Im single. You literally might see me here every Friday at 9:00 on the dot." He laughed. At the end of the conversation, Joe said the following: "And you know whats crazy? A couple years ago, I opened a place in Long Beach, but then Sandy happened. You heard about Long Beach and Sandy, right?" I nodded. "Wait ... so youre saying that this is your baby ... you started one thing, Mother Nature ruined it, and youre trying again?" "Pretty much." "I wish you the absolute best, my friend." And boy, will he get it.

I went here with my sister on a Saturday night sometime in October or November. It was very busy, a little overwhelming as newcomers. The pour-your-own system is great, unique, fun; however, I would request and recommend that a bit more guidance is provided to those unfamiliar with the system. We found ourselves standing dumbly looking around, observing other people, in order to figure out what to do. Bar staff was busy, but there is a large chalkboard just next to the taps, which would be a great place for a step-by-step description of what to do! For example: 1. Provide ID to bar staff to get your glass and your bracelet to scan. 2. Scan your bracelet and fill your glass as much or as little as you want! 3. Rinse your glass at the water station next to the taps prior to refilling. All told, the beer selection was enjoyable and innovative. The band that was performing was way too loud and looked/sounded a lot like a high-school-aged band that has been practicing in a basement and just hasnt performed live enough times. I would be pleased to hear more experienced musicians at a lower volume, I could not even talk to my sister. We did not eat so cannot comment on the food. I am between 3 and 4 stars here. I could see this rating going up if the things I mention here are addressed in my next visit. All in all, I would like to return on a calmer night, order some food and try more beers on tap, and hope that there will be better music at a reasonable volume that promotes conversation among guests.

This place is awesome if you like to drink beer! In fact it is because of their self-serve wall of two dozen craft beers that I give this place five stars. Without it it is a four star establishment. To us the beer wall you get a bracelet, scan it in front of the beer you want and then serve as much or as little as you want. You can pour a tasting or a whole glass. After each pour it gives you a tally of how much you have poured. After 48 ounces you have to go back to the bar and renew your bracelet. It is a really great system though because you can try as much beer as you want without worrying about tipping or bothering the bar staff. The food is delicious and unhealthy just like it should be at a bar. The friend pickles are amazing and so are the hot pretzel bites; however they claim that their chicken wings are award winning but unless it was a contest for mediocrity I didnt find that they are anything special. They have a mostly older crowd on the weekends which I was surprised by because it seemed like the type of place that would attract more like a mid-20s crowd. They have very friendly staff and they usually dress up for football games and other events so it has a festive feel.

I ate (or attempted to eat) here with my husband. We were both disappointed with our meals. I was stoked to try this place as someone had given me a gift card. I ordered the brisket. When it came to the table, I tried to try a bite with my fork but realized I would ha e to use a knife to cut it. To me, this is unacceptable. Beef brisket is slow cooked for hours and is supposed to be tender and basically just fall apart. When the waiter came over to ask about our meals I told him mine was tough so he offered be a knife. I told him that I shouldnt even require the use of a knife. Next thing I know, the manager is coming over asking if Id like a new plate saying that this dish would be fresh. Wtf? Was the first one old? Haha so yeah, they bring out the second attempt and its just as bad. By far the worst bbq Ive ever had. Id have been better off going to Arbys. The beer selection was ok. I didnt really like the whole self serve thing. When I go out to eat, Im paying for service, not to help myself and have to over pay for it. Croxley Ale has a much better selection and they pour it for you. I would NOT recommend to anyone I know. Honestly, I cant believe this place gets business.
