Im a lot of things, but one thing Im not is a barbecue expert. You know, those people that are all like "THE ONLY REAL BARBECUE COMES FROM WHERE I COME FROM". God those people are annoying...if youre one of them, then I actively dislike you. That being said, I do LOVE barbecue in general. I just dont think Ive ever experienced it like I see people experiencing it on those travel/cooking shows. Secretly though, Ive always wanted a "go to" Barbecue Place nearby. I think I found the place. My first experience with House of Bones was during this past Super Bowl. A friend of mine brought over a HUGE pan of ribs as his party donation. What followed was gluttony the likes of which god has never seen. I mean we ate...a lot. And the whole time he raved about their other offerings, specifically the sides and fried chicken. So when a sports clinic took us down scenic route 8 south this past weekend, I made the Executive Decision to make first contact. It was about 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon, so the place wasnt very crowded. Maybe 4 or 5 tables and one other person waiting for take-out. We didnt eat in, but the ambiance of the place was right up my alley. Order at the counter, seat yourself, food comes...lather, rinse, repeat. And the smell....the smell people...intoxicating. Its like fat guy Chanel perfume. We scanned the menu quick and knowing that I had to feed 4 for dinner in a few hours, we opted for the Family Meal #2 Ribs & Chicken. Rack of ribs, fried chicken, 3 sides, 4 breads. When asked about a preference of bread (biscuit or cornbread), we decided to split, and as far as sauce, we went with the vinegar blend...just because. The side selection was challenging, they all sounded and looked so amazing, but I elected to try and please everyone that was going to be at the table and went with potato salad, macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. For the amount of food we ordered, it came out pretty quick. 10 minutes or so, not bad. And how the heck they can give you THAT much food for $44 is mind boggling to me. I mean, the box seemed to weight literally like 20 lbs. Huge, meaty rack of ribs, 4 gigantic pieces of chicken (3 smaller ones) and the 3 sides that were freaking massive. And of course a few biscuits and cornbread. Portions, price and service did not disappoint at any level. And the taste....the taste..... Let me sum it up like this: THE ONLY REAL BARBECUE COMES FROM WHERE I COME FROM. Yeah, that just happened. Eat here. Often.

Had the two piece dark fried chicken combo. The chicken was cooked well enough and juicy, but whatever they used for the batter flavoring was very bland. I like a little more flavoring for fried chicken and this didnt have it. The meal included two sides and I chose the mac and cheese as well as the collard greens. Both of those were good, but not remarkable. The meal also came with a biscuit or corn bread and I chose the biscuit which ended up being inedible, it was hard and dry. They also included some barbecue sauce and I chose the sweet style, but I realized there wasnt anything I had that I wanted to use it with as I dont normally put BBQ sauce on fried chicken. The sauce itself I tasted and it was pretty good, but since I didnt really have anything to balance it with I cant really give it an adequate review as it comes off overly sweet on its own. Ill probably try them again to see if this was an off day on certain items and also to try some of the barbecue itself. The place itself is housed inside an old smokehouse and is clean and well lit. The staff are pleasant.

My God! If you want the best barbeque in the area you must go here. I had a party today for my wife and had some trays ordered from House of bones. After picking up the food I was driving home and the barbeque smell in my car was overwhelmingly delicious. When I got home and we opened up the trays the steam and aroma filled the room. People at the party said it was the best barbeque they had ever had. I couldnt agree more. It made me crave barbeque. It makes me want to have a party again and have more House of bones barbeque. We had ribs, pulled pork, chicken and cornbread. Also Cole slaw and potato salad. Lastly, Mac and cheese. Every single item was the absolute best you could ever want. The ribs had meat the came off but not too much. The taste had a slight bite to it. Just the right amount. And to boot we were given three sauces: hot, sweet and mustard....all three were to die for.you could spoon it alone and be happy. Thank you House of bones. Never leave. Cant wait to devour your food again.

I had to come up with a restaurant for my wifes birthday and once again she came up with a recommendation for me. This is a sure way not to make a mistake, it also helped us stay married for 22 yrs. We both love BBQ so my search was on. I gave her a list and when she heard the name House of Bones she said thats the one I saw on Rt 34 in Derby. We need to try that one. Off we went, when we pulled into the parking lot I started to think this could be good. Not likely the response most people would have based on exterior. However, we like finding a diamond in the rough. The House of bones turned out to be just that. The people were very friendly, there was quite a selection , and most importantly the food was fabulous. The flavors of the meats didnt need any help but dont turn down the opportunities to try all the wonderful sauces to enhance the experience. Finally the portions are plentiful, plan on big doggie bags. We cant wait to return.

People can be fools when it comes to rating food. I never write reviews. However, I will state hard facts. Came here last month and ordered the St. Louis 4 pc rib meal with mac n chee and mashed, with a biscuit. My lovely female accompaniment ordered a brisket sandwich with cold-slaw on it. Sauces Chosen - Hot and Sweet. Both VERY unique and worked with every bite of each dish (always share). I will tell you this is the best BBQ Ive ever had. Went to Dinosaur BBQ in Stamford over the summer and it didnt hold a candle to the place. Savory flavors that are unique - messy as it should be (but deal-able). The only downside is that their biscuits need to be more flavorful and not so dry (should just put some butter on top). 2 very full persons cost about $26 with a beverage. Either way, pure cream.

Im a big fan of southern BBQ and even though its not southern BBQ, i have to say that this BBQ hands down was literally the best Ive ever had. The sauce was rich, sweet, perfectly blended with the right amount of smoked induced mouth watering tasty goodness! I ordered the ribs with coleslaw, baked beans and a side of the brisket just wanting to sample it as well. The meat fell of the bones, along with the brisket being juicy, flavorful and melted right in my mouth. Corn bread was pretty good too, cant beat the quality of that food. For all you other people out there leaving negative comments about this fine establishment.... You all have no idea what your talking about. Find another BBQ joint for all anyone cares, more heavenly food for me lol
