Yesterday, a busy Saturday afternoon of shopping and wanting something "homestyle" for lunch, decided to head to the Malta Diner. I have been there only a couple of times and have never been overly impressed but it was decent enough. We showed up about 1:45, and the place was dead! Seats available everywhere, which was good, in and out service and back to the days errands, right? WRONG! When we came in the arrogant-cant be bothered with you-male host barely looked at us and mumbled something about 2 people, I said no, 3 we have 1 child with us, if you opened your eyes. He huffed, grabbed the menus and lead us to seating, being VERY pregnant I prefer a table over a booth and asked (as there were SEVERAL tables open) for one instead of a booth, he was 10 paces ahead of me and said "here" and threw all three menus on the table and grabbed a place setting from another table to make 3 seats! He couldnt even place the menus! He didnt even say "enjoy" or "so and so will be with you", etc. We sat there, looked over the menu and within 3 minutes we had made our food choices. And we waited, looked around, there was one table who was in the middle of eating, but it was deserted for the most part, but there was NO ONE restaurant related to be found. We waited some more, no one came over to even get drinks or water. After about 10 minutes of sitting there with NO acknowledgement we see the "host" walk out from a back room with his face stuffed with food. Following him was a gaggle of waitress who all dispersed into different directions. NOT ONE CAME OVER TO US TO ASK US WHAT WE NEEDED! We even were staring down the staff, but again no one cared to serve us. After another 10 minutes of being completely ignored (bringing this to over a 20 minute wait) we decided it wasnt worth it and wed go to a more reputable restaurant in the area. When we got up, no one stopped us and no one said boo to us. My mother did however, look at the "host" and say "we appreciate your business" in which is smugly responded with "youre welcome." This man is arrogant, rude and the staff are lazy and equally rude. In an idustry that I assume works for tips for suplimenting their incomes, you would think one of the 5 or so working they would be eager to help! This place is a grade A s@#$-hole! I do not recommend it. Mc Donalds next door would of provided a more warm and inviting atmosphere! Id give this place 0 if it was a possiblity!

This place is just plain lousy now, and the staff could care less about your satisfaction. When the cashier asked "how was everything?" I proceeded to tell her that our meal was very disappointing. I explained that we have a choice as we live half way between here and the Halfmoon Diner, but will more than likely not be coming back. The home fries are not prepared, sliced potatoes anymore. They are premade from the bag and thrown in the fryer (there were stray french frys to prove it). Told the waitress immediately that they were terrible and wasnt going to eat them. She said sorry, but offeres no substitution or refund. The French toast was burnt on one side (of course, the burnt side was face down). Waitress never came or asked for refills, she forgot 2 items from our order, had to ask 2 times for a togo box, potato chips were stale, and the Mac n cheese dinner portion was ridiculously small. The cashier said to me "oh, sorry to hear that... thatll be $38 please." She didnt seem the least bit interested in our concerns, perhaps she was more concerned with the child running around behind her counter. They clearly do not care about your meal being crappy, and dont care that you may never return. I guess thats why the diner we should have gone to is jammed every Friday night, unlike this one which had lots more empty seats than full ones. Lastly, even if the food was good, they are WAY overpriced compared to any of the other diners in the area. I feel stupid now because I used to tell everyone how good the place was..I guess I have a lot of correcting to do on that. I can get over the fact they may be having an off day, but I can not excuse the lack of customer service when people are unhappy.

The food is average, and a bit pricey for the quality and the portion size, however, I do like the nice atmosphere. We are usually seated in the booth section so that we do not have to have the huge TV screens in our faces. Although I have read another reviewers complaint on here, I do not mind that the owner watches TV the whole time. One time I even enjoyed one of the nature shows he had on. It is distracting during the meal though. My concern is that even though the diner wasnt crowded at the time, one of the waitresses was very impatient with us because we needed more time to look at the menu. It appears that since we did not know exactly what we wanted when she came to our table, she appeared to be very annoyed, and complained about us to the other wait staff and the hostess. It was quite obvious. They may think that customers are not aware that they are talking about them, but its so obvious when the waitress leaves your table in a huff, and complains to co-workers about 10 feet away from you. Anyway, if you dont mind wait staff with an attitude, and you do not care that the owner watches TV, you can enjoy your meal. Just remember that you need to know exactly what you want to order right away so that the wait staff does not get impatient with you. In spite of this, you can enjoy the pretty decor of the diner, and be satisfied that the diner is clean. The restroom is kept clean too, and they have warm water to wash your hands. If you have a large group in your dining party, there is a larger dining room in the back. My advice is to call ahead to reserve the backroom.

I love the Malta Diner, have been going there since they opened and I lived in Malta. I still like to go but for a short while things went downhill. I wasnt going to go back but we gave it another chance and it is awesome again. The only thing is ...the mashed potatoes used to be good, then they were garlic mashed potatoes which go good with a steak but not with gravy, so a turkey dinner or a hot sandwich was not good. They did away with them, but now they have a sour flavor. At first I thought they were spoiled, but they have that taste every time. I prefer for mashed potatoes to taste like....potatoes, a little milk, butter, salt and pepper, but i dont know what is making that sour flavor. Please bring normal mashed potatoes back Malta Diner! Otherwise there food is excellent and great prices. The new decor is nice too.

I have no idea what happened to this place, used to go there quite a bit back in the day and the food used to be good, now its not even worth it. Came in on a Sunday and was told I couldnt get lunch till 12? They were saying it puts too much strain on there. Well guess what your cooks suck then! Any other diner can handle it but not yours? Find some real cooks who can do the job. What happened to your old cooks that used to be able to do it, get those guys back. I dealt with it and ordered an Eggs Benedict. 2 runny poached eggs that slid off the English muffin and were still raw with a big glob of Hollandaise that was just slopped on the plate. Buddy wasnt too happy with his omelet either since it wasnt cooked all the way through. This place has gone downhill its a ghost town now and will be until things change.
