I usually go for after work for a beer with co-workers and friends and sometimes during the weekends. Triumphs main strengths are their in house brewed beers that routinely change minus a few staple beers that is a normal part of their selection. Their entrance can be easily missed if you dont pay attention and their restaurant goes deep into its location and is basement like. Once you enter the restaurant through its down inclined hallway it opens up to a large spacious area, showcasing their brewing tanks in the background and various local art on the walls (which changes over the year). Similar to their beers changing, their menu does change from time to time. This is both good and bad. At one time their fries were very much to my liking and then all of a sudden they were different a month later to a great disappointment. I you do find something that you enjoy on their menu, enjoy it as much as you can because after a period of time it might not be available. If you are undecided on which beer to choose, you can always order the sampler and have a taste of all their brews. Service can vary depending on the time and how busy the restaurant can be. Triumphs can get extremely busy during peak restaurant hours since it is one of the few places that can actually fit many large groups in its bar area. As a result it can get extremely loud at times. Overall Triumphs gets a better rating for me primarily for its beer selections and variety. The restaurant atmosphere fulfills a niche that is missing from the Princeton environment and allows for a casual last minute gathering of friends at the bar. Most of their seasonal beers are great and something to look forward to. Its just unfortunate at times to discover that your favorite food item can disappear over time.

Triumph has so much potential - its in a great location and has a unique space - but the food and atmosphere were huge let downs. Triumphs biggest selling point is its selection of brews, and there it does an adequate job. But the menu is all over the place. It has no unifying sense of flavor or cuisine that relates to the decent beer offerings. The calamari salad we ordered was terrible. The greens were wilted and the parmesean shavings were practically transparent from having sat under the warming lights for so long. Needless to say, it was not tasty. We also ordered a panini sandwich, which had no rhyme or reason and the pairing of cheese, meat and fruit on day-old toasted bread was simply bland and boring. And, everything was over priced! As far as the space, the room was packed and the acoustics were terrible. We had to shout at the waitress to place our orders. A good brew pub succeeds if it features a menu that is simple and has entrees and apps that compliment the beer selections. Triumph is not the place for you if you are looking for a relaxing beer after work and some good, solid grub.

Kind of stuck up, and expensive. I went by myself one night, got seated at the bar, and had a burger and the IPA. The burger was excellent, the IPA good but nothing special. The service was mediocre, but I chalked it up to the bartender being pretty busy. I went back the next night with a group of people from the conference I was attending, mostly looking for somewhere to sit and have beers. Our group of seven was told that since we were not eating dinner the only options were the cocktail tables (obviously full) and the bar (even more full). When we told them a couple of us wanted food, we were told there had to be at least three of us getting dinner (appetizers did not count) in order for them to seat us. Meanwhile, there were several open tables and no one waiting behind us. Not to mention it was 10 on a weeknight. We politely left and went somewhere that actually wanted our business. The guy at the door was painfully polite about the whole thing, but I am still not sure what the problem was. A pretty crappy way to treat customers if you ask me.

The beer here is good but nothing spectacular. I learned from visiting a few times that the service really varies each visit. My last visit was excellent I had a great bartender who was on top of everything. Recently I went back and the bartender was great again but there was a woman who I noticed the last time (I am suspecting an owner or manager - she wasnt dressed in black like the rest of the staff) who was very pushy about getting us away from the bar. I had been given a drink and two minutes later she starred my whole party down until we paid. I have never encountered such a problem before and could not believe her attitude. A simple, "I am closing out this shift would you mind paying your bill?" isnt so much to ask. Why would anyone have a problem with that? I will definitely be spreading the word about how unprofessional that woman was. Maybe I will go back once in a while for some beer to go but I will not be visiting to sit down and support that business like I have in the past ever again. The food is mediocre anyway.

This is not the place to go if you dont look and dress like you make a lot of money. Any sign of being your average post-graduate beer lover will get you snotty service, if not total negligence. Some friends of mine went there late on Friday night, and were having our cards checked when they announced last call. They had no problem selling us a pitcher and two samplers, but after about ten minutes, a bald, grouchy bartender began to hover over us, telling us that we needed to leave. When my friend asked for five minutes so we could finish without choking, the bartender called my friend, and I quote, a "wise-a** douchebag." I grew up right outside of Princeton, and am starting to wonder if this is really what the town is all about. There is plenty of great beer in the world. Dont waste your time getting treated like something that got scraped off a pompous jerks shoe looking for it at Triumph.

Beer is great. The Irish Stout was so damn good. Best stout Ive had since Guinness in Dublin.. Ireland. Food was good. The Irish Cuban (I think thats what it was called) was really good. Fries were awesome too. Lamb BLT is great as well. The bar tending staff was great. I do have one major complaint: Triumph has an archaic and counter-productive no breaking up checks policy. I fully understand the restaurant gets charged per transaction by VISA (etc), but just charge us an extra 3% splitting check fee, I dont care. The problems of figuring out money between large parties is just ridiculous and someone always gets shafted. Not to mention, the restaurant is screwing their own wait staff because my friends and I are usually generous tippers, but adding the 20% automatically eliminates that. Its 2012, get with it. (source: Ive worked in restaurants and dealt with these very issues)

What a weird dining experience. At first, I thought Triumph was totally rocking. We sat down and ordered several of their microbrews, and each of them, while pricey, totally did the trick. We then ordered two appetizers, and enjoyed them both as well. Up to that point, things were looking spiffy... but then the entrees got to the table, and things drove straight off a very tall cliff. None of the meals was sporting much flavor, but several of them were completely lacking in it. Even the pickle they served me was bland -- and this is a pickle were talking about here. Stop in Triumph for a couple of brews, but if youre gonna order food, stick to the starter menu. I can handle expensive dining when the taste lives up to the price tag; here, though, however, such was not the case.
