Just ate breakfast at the Red Oak and couldnt be more disappointed with the food. My first impression was the coffee, which tasted like burnt, dirty water - an obvious trademark of a coffee machine that has not being cleaned in a long time. I ordered an extended Fathers Day weekend special they had: Lox Benedict. Think of an egg benedict but with lox instead of the typical Canadian bacon. The eggs were cooked well, and the lox was plentiful. However the english muffin that it came on was completely burnt. I cant believe that the cook and the waitress both thought it was okay to serve a completely burnt (black) English muffin to a customer. Because of this, the Benedict was almost inedible. This dish came with hash browns which had absolutely no flavor at all and were certainly frozen at one time before they were fried. I had also ordered a side of bacon ($2.70 on menu, $3.30 when my check came). They actually gave me about 5 pieces of bacon in this order, which normally would be generous. However the bacon here was around 99% fat. It may have been the lowest quality bacon Ive ever been served at a restaurant. In addition, the bacon was served mostly limp and flaccid (because who would want their bacon to actually be a bit crispy?) and a strange white goo was smeared on one of the slices. Butter from another dish that the bacon slipped into before it reached me, maybe? Ill never know because it was going nowhere near my mouth. Though the service was prompt, because most of the food and drink was horrendous I will never be going back to Red Oak ever again. And I wouldnt recommend you doing so either.

Dingy, dirty, and horrible service. Everything about this place is gross and puts you off your food. Most of the tables have dirty, peeling masking tape on the edges to conceal the peeling laminate. It smells bad. The entrance has a disgusting open ashtray full of butts. Pancakes were fair. The potatoes and eggs were tasteless. Worst of all was the service. Other diners would be full on Sunday at noon. This one was 2/3 empty and its no wonder why. We put in our food order with the nice but inefficient waitress. My daughter and I waited over half and hour for pancakes, eggs, and hash browns. We werent told until I asked that our food had been sent to another table, which was the reason for the delay. My coffee was empty while we were waiting because the waitress and the host guy had disappeared. Then I had to wait for another ten minutes for cream. I never received a check. When I went up to the paying station, I asked who the manager was. The creepy host guy was also apparently the owner/manager of the place. His name is Jeff, and he sucks at running a restaurant. I told him that he must really not care too much about his customers. He argued with me. When I had had enough and told him that he had a shitty attitude, he told me I do too. Really mature. Really good business sense. LOL. There are way better places than this. Dont subject yourself to this dump.

The food was decent and the waitress was super attentive, friendly and helpful. I went with a friend (young blonde girl) who was new to America, as I wanted to show her the diner experience, and I had fond memories of the place from when I was young. Despite the waitress being amazing, we had an unnecessary and uncomfortable interaction with someone who seemed to be the manager. He kept asking her if she was ok like she was being kid napped or something. Then he barely had anything to say to me (even when I paid for the meal and attempted to be friendly with him) but made certain to say something to her as we left. It was an experience that left me feeling humiliated and her feeling slightly uncomfortable. Not the end of the world but I will think twice about visiting from now on. That being said, Im sure thats an outlier, and youre likely to have a pretty good overall experience. The portions are definitely large as well.

Stopped by the Red Oak this morning. Surprised this place wasnt busier. My husband had the Cajun omelet and loved it. I made a change to my Northern omelet (turkey sausage, peppers onions....I removed onions and added potatoes), and it was delicious. If people think this is the old Red Oak, its not. Its under a new owner and definitely worth a try.

Highly recommended! After a very disappointing few years, the Red Oak was repurchased in 2016 by its earlier owners. Now its again got scrumptious breakfasts, delicious lunches and dinners, attentive service, and -- a must for any New Jersey diner -- excellent coffee. Plenty of parking, easy off- and back on- Rt. 206.

Really liked this diner. Had dinner there with the kids last night - the portions were large and the food delicious. We especially enjoyed the Greek salad and the kids serving of fried flounder. Prices are reasonable. The kids are begging to go back and we will!

Lemon drop pancakes described as filled with lemon and strawberries, came with lemon goo squirted on top with cut up berries. Chocolate Chip pancakes only had chips not the middle of pancakes. Took almost a whole bottle of syrup to make these two orders moist.

We were in Red Oak diner a few years ago and found it unimpressive. We returned a couple of days ago to find it under new management and much improved. The food was delicious and of good quality. Staff was friendly and efficient.

My omlet was dry and overcooked. The table was held together with duct tape. The seats were old and uncomfortable. I just didnt enjoy my experience here and wont be coming back.

Big improvement over the previous version of this place. Went there twice the last few weeks and I was satisfied. Service was very good. Will go again.

Sat right away, but place was pretty empty. Had chicken club, but sandwich was practically all bread. Good fries. Bathroom was not air conditioned.
