I will begin by saying that the absence of a fifth star in my review is based solely on the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant and does not reflect the service nor the quality of the food, both of which were excellent. I am someone who values the atmosphere of an establishment a bit more than the usual person, so if you are not you can interpret this as a five star review. I need to begin by saying that I am no stranger to good BBQ. While The Hog doesnt rank at the very top of my list of BBQ joints, it does however have hot wings that I could say are the best Ive ever had. Perfectly cooked. We went out with a other family and ordered mild wings for the table, but I will return to order every type of wing they have and go to town on them. My ribs were above average and I found the full rack to be plenty. The mashed potatoes and the mac and cheese were both good. Everyone we ate with seemed full and content with their meals. They were not busy so our server was able to focus on us very well and the service was outstanding as a result. The only detriment is the lack of character inside the restaurant. Its more like a high school cafeteria than a BBQ joint. Improving the decor would go a long way in creating a better overall experience.

Every time we go to Hickory Hog, we enjoy the BEST RIBS & SIDES this side of Memphis, but we dont have to leave the Jersey Shore !!! The meatloaf sandwich is always delicious, and they have a chicken burger thats seasoned to taste like Italian sausage (yummy)...The service is always super, even when theyre jumpin - if you dont try them, youre really missing out on one special place (BTW, they share the same location with Gerards Liquors, so BYOB os never a problem....)

Really bad. I dont mind spending $19 on a rack of ribs but these were mediocre at best. Tasted like they were cooked in a bag or oven, not a hint of smoke. At least they did offer a dry rub that they didnt douse in BBQ sauce like they did the kids ribs. Wifes "pulled chicken" sandwich was some gross diced chicken, she couldnt even finish it. Coleslaw was awful too. Really wanted to like this place, but just not authentic BBQ at all.

First time there ever. Passed it many times, asked the young man what he would rec. Belly Buster. Well unless your a child under 12,,, Not that much food. On a hamburger roll. Never asked if I would like it toasted or anything else. 10.00 Not impressed. 3.25 they charge for a half of ear of corn. REALLY. if you want repeat business. Dont scrape by with a 10.00 offering. Order a take out burger from frankies. Worth the wait!

The food was mediocre. Everything was decent, but tasted like they got their sauces and food from a local super market and slapped them together in a sandwich. Service was good and prompt. The decor and ambiance left something to be desired. The clientele was primarily elderly folk, which created a much quieter, somber environment. Will most likely not come back.

After tonights meal being the third in the last 3 months. I am very disappointed in the product. I just attempted to eat the worst ribs i have ever had. Unfortunately this will be the last meal from this restaurant Off the 3 local barbecue places i rank them 5th

The closest thing youll find of decent(not real, just because it has sauce, doesnt mean its BBQd) BBQ withing 30 miles away. 3 stars is for a "okay" rating. Its just no where close to how better BBQ can taste.

Im from the South, Im very picky about my BBQ. Lots of places claim to have real Southern BBQ. Hickory Hog IS the only place at the shore that can make that claim! Expensive, a little but worth it!

Quick service but Not very good. BBQ sauce taste like it came from the dollar store. There are better BBQ places close by. We are local and prefer the BBQ joint on rt 88 in point.
