One of the best places in Newark and Essex County to get a really great hero. Hence the name. Youre options on sizes are half or whole and the whole is huge. Ive been coming here for years and never had a bad hero. Its a popular place during lunch and the line could be out the door. There is a big selection and you order by number. The heros are thick because they dont cheat you on the meat. They cut the meat and cheese fresh and theyre not prepared in advance. I went there today and had the #3. Its the basic Italian hero which has boiled ham, salami, and provolone cheese. Plenty of meat and the bread is always fresh. Service is always very good and the line moves fast. There is on the street parking. Prices are very reasonable for the size and freshness of their heros. I ordered the half but it went down so easy I should have ordered the whole. Next time!

Do not eat here, owner needs to lay off the drugs... very rude very nasty, I used to work here and can honestly say Ive found dead roaches all over the place, the place is not kept clean, sandwiches are good but they have the same quality meats at any other place... this place is not special, avoid this place by any means, Francesca pizzeria on mcwhorter ( not to far ) has way better food and pricing.

Best straight up sandwich I have had anywhere in the NY metro area (yes, that includes Manhattan). Sure, you may find better funky, artisanal sandwiches in NYC, but for a straight up hero with amazing cold cuts - Hero King is the place to go. The people behind the counter have great personality and make a MEAN sandwich - make sure to get oil salt and pepper on whatever you get.

This place has the best sandwiches hands down!!! I would have given it 5 stars but they charge extra for the cheese.!!!! As much as the sandwiches/salads cost the cheese should be FREE.. But over all they are good people and the service is swift!

Bread was amazing. The folks behind the counter were very friendly. Three of us came in hungry, and while we were eating we were absolutely silent, just taking in all the deliciousness, saving all our energy to concentrate on the sandwich.

The owner and staff are friendly and outgoing... Their breakfast and lunch sandwiches are really good! Especially considering how low the prices are! Definitely recommend grabbing breakfast or lunch here!
