After reviewing the menu online, we had our hearts set on trying out this place, but online reservations were booked until 8 PM on a Saturday in late May. We took a risk and walked into town and called to make a reservation for earlier, if possible. The hostess checked with the manager and said they might be able to get us in by 7:30 PM. We put our names on the waiting list and walked there in 5 minutes. The hostess again checked with the manager and we were seated before 7 PM, with no more than a five minute wait. Besides being extremely accommodating and polite to our family of three, the staff was courteous and well-informed. The food selections did not disappoint. The childrens menu was more than the fried food basics youd typically expect near the shore (cheese ravioli). The special of bacon-encrusted barramundi fish with lobster risotto and asparagus spears was perfectly portioned and well-prepared. The veggie ravioli also received good reviews. Top off the meal with a short (but local) list of brews and the experience was just the right pace in just the right place!

Food is quite decent for being in the center of tourist area. The fruit plate is actually one of the best Ive had anywhere (will add pic later). Im a big fan of the Chorizo and Eggs, basically a breakfast burrito. The granola yogurt parfait is equally excellent if you are looking for a healthier option. My favorite thing about this place is the great cocktails and amazing beer selection. I always start of brunch with Bloody Mary. Peppar vodka and freshly made Bloody Mary mix make it top notch. Followed up by the ManMosa: Allagash White, orange vodka, champagne, and fresh squeezed OJ, served in a half liter hefeweizen glass. It may sound off putting to some but it is ridiculously good! The beer selection is amazing 15-20 tap handles with a lot of local breweries: Carton, Cape May, Flying Dog... They just got a cask/hand pump which is always a bonus. Lines can be long depending on what time you arrive but its well worth the wait.

We have always had great experiences with The Mad Batter but our last wasnt as great. Im giving 3 stars because Im hoping it was just a fluke and not the norm. The service was extremely slow. The restaurant wasnt packed but we know it was just before the summer season so they may have been short staffed. We each had a drink and ordered water. When she brought our drinks she dropped my Bellini all over the table and shattered the glass. They moved us to another table and remade the drink but we stood around for about 5 minutes in the middle of the restaurant while they decided where to seat us. It wasnt busy so there were plenty of options. My sister ordered a Long Island ice tea and the first one didnt have enough soda. The second one had no sour mix. Our entrees were ok. I had the scallops. They were over seasoned with old bay. I tried to eat the part without the seasoning but old bay is so overpowering I couldnt eat them all.

My husband and I have been wanting to eat here for a while so we decided to try it for his 50th birthday this past weekend. We both ordered the filet mignon and crab cake with four cheese macaroni. Our bad for not realizing that the macaroni was macaroni and cheese? Needless to say for the prices they charge I would have preferred something other than macaroni and cheese like a a potato of some sort. This really brought the plate down a notch. The waitress was mediocre at best. She was not very friendly and seemed to be just doing her job. When we asked for desert and she brought out the tray I mentioned that it was my husbands 50th BD and not a response at all and also never bothered to ask if we wanted coffee with our desert. FYI they do not accept gift cards if you plan to use one because according to the waitress they dont want to pay the fees. Have to say we were a little disappointed.

Maybe this USED to be one of the best places in Cape May...but I dont know why...very over-rated and very over-priced... I ordered the brie with raspberry and "caramelized walnuts"...for the price, it looked like nothing...walnuts were burnt, not caramelized...and raspberry was non-existent...when I asked for more raspberry jam, they brought me something I could not even describe...it wasnt jam...the waitress says...oh, that is raspberry DRIZZLE...awful, fake, syrup of some sort...really? For the 12 or 14 $ you charged me? I dont think so...sent it back...it said it came with fresh fruit...ok, you got me on a technicality...technically, the little bunch of grapes was fresh fruit...for the price, you couldve thrown in a strawberry and some orange slices...no thenks...we will stick with the Merion Inn

Nice ambiance and the singer in the bar was great. They charged me $15 for a HOUSE margherita topped off with some gran marnier...was prob 1/2 a pour if that, so I was a bit disappointed with the price but the drink was good. we sat, waited 10 mins for waitress. I ordered another margherita. 25 mins later it came (after we finished our apps) so I sent it back. Waitress and bartenders were SLOW.had their clam chowder soup and fried calamari for apps...soup "specialty" was very salty with a ton of fatty bacon. Calamari was fresh but was soggy and just not good. Entrees were very good. The grouper sandwhich and crabcake sandwhich were both very good. So I think overall it could have been better overall but execution was lacking. Id give it another try and hope they do better

Reputation is only as good, or bad, as the people you interact with on any given day. Went for breakfast yesterday and had an awful experience. Sat for over 40 minutes waiting for our food as our young waitress chatted up a couple of handsome life guards at the next table forgetting to check on out food. After I inquired about it she rudely told me it would be out soon. Complained to the Hostess (who was as rude as the waitress) and she assured me it would be out soon. It came out all right.....cold. We walked out and opted for corn muffins and coffee sitting on the beach. Im sure their food is quite tasty but in my book you get one chance to make a good impression and they blew theirs.

We get it. Youre soooooo busy. Stop acting like it. Rude hostess (short-haired, glasses), overpriced, long wait. - Price example: $3.50 for one shot. -Rudeness example: waitress asked for assistance passing around waters. Inevitably some got 2, some got none, as we were trying to get this squared away, snippily, she said "theres more water." Condescending. Two in our party have food allergies. Snippily, "if its on yhe gluten free menu, then its gluten free." Thanks, Captain Obvious! When we inquired about dairy, again, snippily, "I have no idea." We get it, youre busy. Stop acting like it. Food was ok. Not great, not bad. Pancakes disappointongly dry. This place is meh.

While its always been a great place for consistently good food, service and cocktails, they have really stepped up their craft beer game. I noticed a big change after the remodel and I love it. They have some standard fare but most of the menu items are thoughtful and different and pair well with everything from a standard cocktail to one of their fancier specialty drinks or craft beer. The bartenders are knowledgable about the drinks and the menus. Add in their special events like tap takeovers, open mic night (with actual GOOD local and visiting talent) and even great art displays and you have a total win.
