We were truly excited to vistit the Lobster House, as we have enjoyed eating on the warf, many times. This time, we decided to try the Lobster House (inside restaurant). The seating was cozy and we had a nice water view table, but we were very disappointed with our meal. The bread, a hearty loaf, came to the table with a seasoned crust loaded with salt. The salty crust was so overpowering, that the rest of the bread tasted terrible. I actually cut the crust off, so I could eat the piece I sliced. Needless to say, we left the entire loaf. Ironically, the bread is sold in the restaraunt to take home. I am not sure who could tolerate all of that salt. The salad was very small, much less than a cup of lettuce, one little grape tomato, a few shavings of carrot, and a little piece of onion. My husbands honey mustard dressing was so watered down, it dripped off of his fork and onto his shirt. My husband ordered a soda, and it was served in a 4 oz glass with ice, two sips and the soda was empty. When he asked for a refill, the waitress informed him that he would be charged for another soda, no refills. Then our dinner came. My mixed vegetables was good. The roasted red potato I ordered was tasty, but the portion was so small, in 4 or 5 bites it was gone. My husbands cole slaw, which consisted of shredded cabbage with a drizzle of milk, was bitter and had no flavor. The french fries were served cold and again, the portion was very small, about the size of a McDonalds Kids Meal french fry. We both ordered the fried flounder, which was more than generous, it looked good, too! However, when we bit into the fish it was soggy, and seemed to be a few degrees undercooked. I could only eat a few bites. I must say - our Waitress, Dina, was pleasant and very accommodating. She kept refilling our water which tasted like chlorine, (maybe bottle water would have been a better choice)! She was a good waitress, and she provided us with 5 star service! Regarding the food, we were so disappointed, we probably will not return to the inside of the Lobster House. Maybe the owners/management, will step up to the plate (no pun intended) and consider our comments. Perhaps, last evening was just an off night for the cooking staff. The end result is...we spent over $50 and we were beyond disappointed! Although we most likely will not return to the indoor restaurant, we will return to the Fish Market for take-out! The food from the Fish Market has always been enjoyable and we like the atmosphere on the deck and the view of the bay (4 star for the take-out)!

Went on a Thursday night. At 9:30 pm, still had to wait 15 minutes for a table so my friend and I sat at the bar and had a drink. Small size drink for the price and I ordered "sex on the beach with cranberry juice", which should have been in a tall glass. It was not good at all, but my friend paid so I drank it, sipping it throughout the dinner. We got a table next to a wall and two other tables. Had to ask people at both tables to move so we could get our chairs out to sit down. Very very dark in the dinning room. People in other tables using their cell phones for light to see the menu. Our waitress came and asked for drinks, which we already had, but we asked for a candle for light. She told us to use our phones to see with, that it is what everyone else does...but she did bring us a little lamp. She never introduced herself (did have a name tag on)nor did she tell us the specials. We ordered fried mushrooms & lump crab for appetizers. The mushrooms came for my friend..very good. I waited for my crab. Their special Everything bread came, was hot and good, so was the whipped butter. Had to ask waitress about my crab, to which she sighed and ran off,, she forgot to order it.. got my crab. Was in a cup, full of lump meat with cocktail sauce. Was very good. Salad came, was on a smal plate..lettuce, two cherry tomatoes, one slice of cucumber. It was ok. For our dinner, we ordered Baked stuffed flounder & King crab legs. The fish was good, had a ice cream scoop size crab stuffing on top of the fish with sauce over top. It was served first. My friend had half of her dinner eaten when my crab legs came. Two legs broken in half on the plate with a very small plastic cup of butter half spilled out. The legs were not cut and I had to aske for a cracker to start to eat, so they were getting cold by the time I could eat them. My first bite was of freezer burn crab. The rest was very salty. Asked for more butter and was given a metal dessert bowl of butter/oil and a bowl to put the shells in. For $43 I was very disappointed. None of the food had any kind of garnish so the presentation was also disappointing. Wait staff was running all over and twice we were asked if we ordered said food cause they didnt know where to serve it. We did not have any coffee or dessert, it was so noisy and so disorganized we just wanted to leave. The bill came to $104.

I was incredibly embarrassed and disappointed. After making a HUGE deal about how wonderful the Lobster House was and insisting we go - against my friends wishes - the experience was awful! I have been to the Lobster House countless times. Sometime the food isnt great but this was awful. The hostess greeted and us and when we said we wanted to eat outside - she sent us to the ship with no explanation. Turned out , we couldnt have the full menu while seated outside but it took forever to get this info from the servers outside. It was a wonderful evening the end of summer and we had to eat inside the stuffy old restaurant. ALL the food was overcooked and why my fellow diners didnt complain and send it back - I do not know. The lobster I received was so overcooked I could barely bite through it. It looked dry and rubbery and it was COLD. I did send it back. The second one was cooked well but by the time I got it everyone else at the table was finished eating and I wasnt hungry. A huge waste of money ($35). They did not bring fresh sides and my fries were cold and limp but I didnt want them anyway. My husband got swordfish that was cooked till it was grey and dry. The baked potatoes were small and so overcooked Im betting they started cooking them the day before. Disgusting! One friend had Sea Scallops - they were small - too small for Sea Scallops. They were simply cooked with NO seasoning - lacking even salt. I am angry and sad. I always said the Lobster House was the best restaurant at the shore. It is why we travelled half and hour to eat there. After 30 years of it being my "go to" I may never go again. I certainly will never take friends there again. what an embarrassment.

There is a lot of truly awesome food in Cape May and this is my favorite spot to eat, although not the fanciest. I have been going to Cape May most of my life and this place is consistently excellent. The seafood is incredibly fresh and well prepared. The prices are quite reasonable and the food is worth every penny. I had to give it 5 stars for the food alone, but was tempted to take one away for the service. If you go at a less busy time, the service is good, but this place gets absolutely swamped during peak hours through June, July and August. If you are going to either of the sit-down dinner places (the Raw Bar and Restaurant), it is much better to get there before the beach crowd (before 5pm I would say). I usually skip it and order from the take-out place. They have most of the same food and a lot of lovely outdoor seating. The take-out also gets really swamped, but I have a way to get around it. If you call in your order about 30 minutes ahead of time, it will be ready when you get there. This has saved me many hours of waiting in line over the years. If you are interested in mollusks at all, the fried scallops are hands down the best scallops I have ever had. This is, in fact, saying a lot because I am a big scallop person and have had this dish in fancy restaurants and greasy spoons all up and down the east coast. The all the crab dishes, and crab cakes especially, are also excellent. I hope these tips help you enjoy the Lobster House because it truly is a must for Cape May.
