I rarely write a negative review as I always give the establishment the opportunely to address any challenges, especially as an almost 30 year veteran of the service industry. I found this restaurant as a half way point to meet my sister-in-law and her family for a nice dinner, I was excited to try and the food was good, but the service left a little to be desired and the bill caught me by surprise. 1) Since they do not have a printed Childrens menu, I was surprised to be charged $7 for a hot dog and fries. 2) My biggest pet peeve is being charged for drink refills, but was very surprised to see being charged for an iced tea refill? It is flavored water, the waitress said it was because it was homemade, REALLY, that itself should warrant it not being a refill charge. 3) I was also very put off by the fact that they charged me extra for a gluten-free wrap for my sandwich, I would have been OK with it if it had been disclosed, but the menu item indicated that it was gluten-free with a (GF) symbol. 4) When we explained to the waitress that the bottled Root Beer, ordered for my nephew, was very sweet and asked for a glass of water instead it took quite a long time to get the glass of water. My nephew was still thirsty and unconsciously took a sip of the root beer, just as she was finally walking back to the table. When I pointed out to her that the root beet was still on the check, her response was "Well he drank it", to which I responded, "He only took one sip because it took so long to get his water, go check the bottle!" I found her response a bit condescending. Half way through the meal, my wife and I were discussing the fact that we would gladly come back, by the end with the lack of service, the "hidden costs", but mostly the pure lack of empathy and response to my concerns push me to write this and vow to never return to or recommend this establishment in the future.

lunch recently, pretty old houseish place (which im sure it is), smallish with a longish bar, full bar with their standard smuttynose beer choices plus some guest beers, it was restaurant week so wife had a choice form that which were all great, the butternut squash soup, the seafood mix and some iced cream, i had their burger with a caesar salad, it was excellent, we had a martini which was good but small but then the bill for them was smallish too so that evens out, tried their smoked cherry short weiss which (not a real beer drinker) thought was great.......really enjoyed our lunch here.....bartendress was pleasant and helpful....nice dining area and looks like they have some outside areas also available.....if you wander over to the brewery later the entrance is on the front not the doors facing the restaurant, they need a sign!!

The Hayseed Restaurant is across the parking lot from the Smuttynose Brewery. The dinners we had were good (pizza and the Eggplant Schnitzel with Spaetzle and Lentils), but both seemed unremarkable. The eggplant was excellent, but a sauce would have been nice, the spaetzle was tasteless, and the lentils were bland. The flavors of the pizza were nothing special. Looking at the menu and watching as dishes come from the kitchen, this seems to be a restaurant without focus, the chef seems to be trying to hit a lot of styles and themes, without mastering any of them.

This old farmhouse was completely renovated into a beautiful restaurant. Great food albeit a little pricey for most items. Nice fire pit outside for those who want to grab a drink outside. It is owned by neighboring Smuttynose Brewery. Offers great selection of beer. Highly recommended as part of Smuttynose Tour. (Smuttynose offers a $3 tasting - giving a $2 coupon for a pint at Hayseed).

Food was delicious and locally sourced! The menu had a huge variety from your standards to some specialties (the jambalaya was excellent!) Beer selection of course was wonderful. Theres a great outdoor seating area and bar area if you just want drinks. I suggest hitting up the brewery first if youve never been, theres a great tasting room to see what you like!

Ive dined here twice and have never experienced poor service. In fact, our waitress was super friendly and funny. The food is delicious and with the brewery across the driveway, there is always fresh beer on tap. Wings are solid and the Haddock Sandwich special was one of the best Ive ever eaten.

Wow. Awesome. Definitely exceeded my expectations. I ordered the sturdy burger. I ordered it medium rare, fully expecting it to be overdone like 90% of burgers in America. It was actually cooked perfectly. The fries were delicate and crispy. Very well done hayseed restaurant. Yummmm. Thank you.

Weve been here a few times for lunch and its kind of a crap shoot. The duck was so salty you couldnt eat it and risotto undercooked. The burgers are alright, but nothing special. They brought us a poached pear for dessert and the inside as gross, it was a dark brown and looked gross.

A tried-and-true favorite for my family and me. The freshest local ingredients, a constantly changing menu with variety ranging from healthy options to indulgences, and great beer always on tap. All of the above paired with a great atmosphere and plenty of outdoor seating.

The person who liked the pulled pork sandwich obviously does not know what an authentic pulled pork sandwich tastes like. The sandwich was bland, no taste, no sauce and definitely not spicy; which you would expect from a kimchee marinated sandwich. Also over priced.

Loved everything about hayseed! The staff was great and attentive, the food was on point (recommend the ever changing specials), and the beer list was great. They serve flights, and i chose the smutt labs beers.

This is a really nice restaurant on a really fantastic overall "campus" for Smuttynose. We had a great time touring the brewery, and being able to get a good meal at on-site afterwards was just great.

The beer is always top notch, the beer cheese is delicious (along with the crackers), and green chili burger was cooked right and flavorful! Ive been here several times and would highly recommend.

We were literally ignored by the wait staff after sitting outside for 30 mins and asking 3 times to have someone come help us. Great food and great drinks suck if you dont get to eat and drink.

An excellent way to finish off a tour of the Smuttynose Brewery is a stop at the Hayseed Restaurant. There is a very nice selection of food, all of which is well prepared and of good quality.

I loved it here, the beers were phenomenal and the food was great. We went last summer coming from Philly. So many unique beers on draft and very cheap flights. Everyone was nice.

Quirky selection of appetizers, varied entree and sandwich listings, all of which looked amazing. The mushroom flatbread was one of the best things Ive ever tasted.

Amazing farm to table menu with creative use of the Smuttynose beers in the dishes. A great way to extend a visit to the Smuttynose brewery.
