Thursday night. Took my 21 year-old daughter in for a bite and a beer. I ordered a Cuban sandwich, and she ordered a Salmon sandwich. I almost laughed when my Cuban was set before me. There was literally one 1/16" slice of ham and two tiny slices of turkey with a hint of cheese. When I say the total between the two pieces of bread was no more than a 1/4" thick, I am not exaggerating! I had to send it back to the kitchen. They DID get my replacement ( a different sandwich ) out to me quickly, but the damage was already done. Even my daughter commented to me "how could a chef even let that out of the kitchen like that?" They comped my Cuban. Great.

My boyfriend and I live in the city and were looking for a good place to eat after Crane Beach. We were trying for outside dining but that was impossible on a Saturday night at 8:30. We started walking around and saw Grog. It was a quick wait for a table, very nice staff at the front. The service was great even though we could tell she was busy. THE FOOD ROCKS! We were shocked at how awesome EVERYTHING was. The prices were super reasonable too. After dinner we went downstairs to the bar where Hot Like Fire was playing. AWESOME AGAIN. For a random evening we had a blast at Grog. We will be going back soon :)

So happy that we stopped at The Grog for lunch. The service was excellent and food delicious! I got the brie/pear/bacon/turkey panini with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was AMAZING! We also got a bacon cheeseburger and they cooked it perfect medium rare with so much cheddar that any cheese lover would be in heaven. We also tried the clam chowder which was not the thick and creamy kind I usually love but surprisingly it was absolutely delicious and had huge pieces of clams and potatoes vs minced clams which takes it over the top! We definitely will be back!!!

I’m really surprised about the poor reviews. No, this isn’t a high end restaurant, but the food is consistent and well priced. The dollar oysters are always a deal and I have never been poured a bad drink. I am usually very critical of the places I eat, but I’m always satisfied with their service and presentation. There are few vegetarian options but they are always willing to modify their extensive menu. The live music is always appropriate and never too loud. This is a cozy local bar and yes- everyone does meet at the Grog!

I was in for drinks with friends. The manager was aweful. He took a drink from a 66 year old patron and would not refund any money. She did not have an ID. She is 66 !!!!! The manager was very rude and the security very aggressive and physical when I said something. This is a very poorly run business. Newburyport has much better offerings. Go to the Black Cow. Do not support such bad behavior and lack of respect for customers. By the way, I was not drinking alcohol or drunk.

We recently held a function for approx 50 people at the Grog, reserving the entire 2nd floor 10 months in advance. Imagine our surprise to get there and learn they also booked a baby shower in the same space for the same day! The shower was sent to the 3rd floor, but those attendees had to walk through our function to get there. The food was unremarkable and expensive, parking was limited. Find someplace besides the Grog to hold an event to avoid hassles..

The food was decent, but not great. I was expecting more from the truffle fries. I was impressed when I ordered them at Lexies on State, but at The Grog they were bland on not memorable. Our waitress was very nice. It can certainly get crowded. We waited about 15 minutes for a table and there isnt much physical space for waiting, which was a little uncomfortable. I probably would try something else next time I am in Newburyport.

My wife and I have never been treated more rudely than we were @ The Grog! The food is barely palatable & the service is horrendous!!! Management & security should be reviewed for how they treat customers whove been coming there for years! Weve witnessed several fights and had a leather coat and video camera stolen from there, where was security when they were needed! I wouldnt reccomend this establishment to my worst enemy!!!

I live in newburport and go to the Grog alll the time. The lobster bisque is amazing, the specials are always creative, anything seafood related at the Grog is great, and the lobster ravioli is incredible. The service is good, the staff friendly and the bar is great. Great salads, awesome sweet potato burrito. To those looking for a good time at night they often have live music and great drinks. ALWAYS a good time!!

They sell some really expensive nice whiskeys but dont seem to know how to make cocktails with them. I ordered an old fashioned with a $14 whiskey. It came out in a daiquiri glass, had about double the amount of liquid you would expect and had a pink color. When I asked the bartender about it she said thats how they always make them. Otherwise this place isnt that bad. Just get a beer.

As out of towners, we looked around and opted to come here for lunch and was very impressed with the staff as well as the inexpensive lunch specials (which include a healthy portion). I would recommend this place if you want a quick bite to eat at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, other restaurants in the area are a bit more $$. This side street restaurant was pleasantly surprising.

Right in town. Favorite with locals. Service quick & friendly. Food very good. We had haddock English Fish and [no Chips] side Caesar Salad, all done right and large portions. We split a Boullabase which was excellent: loaded with shrimp, lobster, mussels, clams, haddock and salmon in a fantastic light broth! Served with slices of toasted baguette from a local artisan bakery!

I ate at The Grog while on vacation to Mass. in September. The seafood chowder and fish and chips were excellent, as was the service - my waitress was a heart-breakingly beautiful young lady who was very quick and friendly. If Im ever back out east (I loved the area, Newburyport in particular, and hope to return someday) Ill definitley eat there again.

I love the Grog! Ive never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table even on a Saturday night and the food is great. I usually get the butternut squash ravioli that comes in a delicious apple cider sauce but Ive also had the burrito with black beans and sweet potato and it was really good. Calamari as an appetizer very good but on the smaller side

Staff was friendly..but the atmosphere was bland. Almost like the food. They sat my bf and I at a little square table for 2, right next to the window on the HOTTEST day. Even though the WHOLE area was empty. And the floor was warped that our table was slanted and our drinks almost slid off the table. Food wasnt anything to write home about.

Went to the Grog anticipating a nice plate of fried scallops. What did I get for 21.99? 4 scallops and French fries, even though I ordered onion rings. My sister ordered same except, she ordered sweet potato fries and she got 5 scallops. Rip off, never going back. The only reason I gave 2 stars, is Im a generally nice person.
