The second time I went to 9Elm was for my engagement dinner. Both my fiancee and I loved the place the first time around and I knew it would be a hit. Certainly was. When we walked in, nearly all the tables were full on a Wednesday night (always a good sign), and the staff was extremely pleasant. Within a few minutes, all 11-12 tables were taken and the bar was full. While we were deciding on what to eat, the bread and oil (infused with roasted garlic) emerged on the table quite quickly and we devoured it quickly. The menu is one page, and though some people complain about a smaller menu, I find it to be a good sign. This implies the chefs will have higher quality ingredients and typically will make each dish perfectly. This time was no exception. My fiancee had the duck (I had it before too...AWESOME) and this time I had the grilled swordfish special. Both entrees came with their respective risottos, and I dont think I have ever eaten so quickly in all my life. The food was utterly delicious. We also ordered a bottle of wine, and the chocolate souffle for dessert. As a little celebration from the staff, they put a candle in the souffle for our engagement, and wished us congratulations many times. My fiancee and I already decided we should go there at least 1-2 times a month (Each entree is > $20 so going more regularly is not within our budget) and our mission is to try everything! I HIGHLY recommend this place. The decor is cozy and intimate. Its perfect for a first date or a regular date night. I hope I can eat here for many years to come!

Delectible appetisers, Delicious entrees, Devine desserts... You will NOT be disappointed with your dining experience at 9 Elm - American Bistro. WAITSTAFF - From the moment we arrived, the freindly staff (Sabrina) took exceptional care of us, providing reccomondations when asked, answering questions, and checking in on us at appropriate times. The owner and chef even stopped in to make certain our dining experience was going well. FOOD - The menu (which is still evolving) was terrific, offering something for everyone. I started with a LARGE Butternut Squash soup, complimented perfectly with ginger. My wife had the ceasar salad with the perfect amount of dressing. For my dinner, I had the duck breast special with fingerling potatoes and green beans. A semi-sweet glaze on the duck was amazing and the portions were the perfect size. She had the New York Strip, cooked perfectly, with a signiture "9 Elm Sauce" and asparagus. DESSERT - Take home a doggie bag and save room for dessert. The FINEST bread pudding I have ever tasted, complete with White chocolate and carmel topping. The Vanilla Creme Brule was also wonderful, with a fresh berry garnish. WINE - An excellent Wine list. We chose the Lulu B. Pinot Noir, which was priced very well. NO 400% mark-up here!! Give this new-comer a try! Its located where Grappas used to be, right in the heart of downtown Danvers.

We love the changing menu and wine choices. The service is very personal, friendly and professional. We enjoy 9Elm so much, we recently bought gift certificates for our entire wedding party as gifts for being in our wedding. We cant wait to bring the whole group to enjoy a dinner and drinks at 9Elm! Updated May 21, 2010: We finally were able to get the whole group together on May 8. 9Elm was very accommodating for our party of 13. All of our food was excellent and prepared as ordered. The wine special was excellent..we will surely be back. In fact, 2 of the guests are returning this Saturday for dinner.

If the menu was larger, instant five stars. This is an awesome local "date night" type of place. Its pricey, but excellent. My only true complaint is the tiny menu. The Wife & I only had Grilled New York Sirloin to choose from as we dont like anything else on the menu. The specials were not to our liking either. That said, the steak was awesome as well as the apps, & dessert. Even adding Swordfish to the menu would bump the rating to a five, since I heard that was a common special (not on the night I went though, so I was disappointed).

Good beers on draft. I had a Fishermans Brew and a Wormtown Be Hoppy. My wife had a glass of Honoro Vera Garnacha that went nicely with our pair of Filet Mignon. The menu is limited, but solid, with a few daily specials posted. We also had an appetizer of butternut squash ravioli that was delicious. Everything was fantastic. The waitress was very helpful and we got seated immediately, since we went in at 5:30pm on a Wednesday. We will definitely go back again!

Ok, so being from Portland OR, business brings to to the Boston area on various occasions. My business hosts took me to this little gem for dinner after a long day on the job. I had the cod and bread pudding. What can I say... .perhaps the best meal I have ever had in my lifetime. Just truly amazing. Came back a few months later, had the swordfish and (again) the bread pudding... it matched the last experience and did not disappoint.

Thrilled to find this place. Appetizers yummy - portobello mushroom tart and grilled shrimp w/bacon. Bistro salad nice. And rack of lamb just right. Nice wine choices - nothing run of the mill about this place. Will go again definitely. Nicely appointed/designed too.

The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. We enjoyed a nice bottle of Merlot, split a ceasar salad and for the main course,a tender pork chop and a sirloin. The sides were delicious. Our server was very attentive. We enjoyed it completely.
