This place just moved from Lake Street where I heard, youd get street entertainment, as in, homeless people coming up to the window and licking it. The new location is great, and the new restaurant building itself is great with nice, modern decor and nice view of the Court House and Pioneer Center. The place was packed on Thursday night. The service was great, although, it was odd that it took about an hour to get to the main course, and we only had mussels as appetizers and by the time the main course came, there were only three other tables full and they were all done eating. Whats up with that? Pasta wasnt made there, but tasted great none-the-less. Wine prices were really reasonable and good selection, HOWEVER, they dont put the vintage down. I asked the server what the wine year was, and she was like, Oh I dont know but it tastes great. Uh, yeah, wonderful, I almost forgot inside the restaurant I was in RENO! Great food, slow to get the main course out, no years on the wines to sum it all up.

Tiny portions, mediocre pesto (no pine nuts, barely any basil (I think they used conventional parsley), low quality olive oil. I think they bought their bread at one of the local grocery stores- definitely not high quality sourdough. Crispy crust, but flavorless (think Rainbow bread), loaf. I am Italian and have both cooked and eaten Italian for all of my life... I went to La Famiglia because of the ratings - obviously, these people have not had true Italian. I counted (literally) 32 pieces of Gnocchi on my plate (Italians dont let Italians leave hungry if they have any sort of gaul). Had a martini in the bar - well made, but served with two rubbery olives. (Imagine; an Italian restaurant that serves mediocre restaurant grade olives!). I went to this restaurant because of the "yelp" reviews, obviously none of the reviews were done by true Italians. Very disappointing overall.

Paulo, the owner, greets you at the door (best to have a reservation as demand is high and capacity is low) Like a New York Italian restaurant, its a combination of hustle and bustle, excellent food piping hot, and great conversation. You could be dining next to one of Nevadas Governors, old Reno business leaders, young hip urbanites or tourists who luckily were guided to the door. Start with fresh mussels in a zesty red sauce or prosciutto w/ fresh melon and your off. All the entrees are solid, especially the chicken parmigiana. Introduce yourself to Paulo and his family who all work together and the next time in, youll be greeted by your name as you enter. Theyre moving in late 2009 so call to see when the new location opens. Ive lived in town for 30+ years and this is Renos best Italian.

I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and and each time the service and food seems to decline. We were there last night and, on top of the service being horrid, the food was subpar! The bread was brought to us VERY late because the server said that it was in the oven. When the bread finally arrived 20 minutes after our cocktails, it was like a stale loaf from Walmart. The sausage polenta was so soggy that it may as well have been a sauce or a soup. The rest of the dinner was decent, but only that! I use to rate this place the #1 place in Reno for Italian food (having grown up in NYC and LA) but I can no longer do that. I hope that they step their game back up so that I dont have to travel to North Beach in San Francisco or to have a tasty Italian meal! Thank you

It was my first time to dine at La Famiglia (located downtown Reno) and I would say its one of the best linguine di mare I have had in many years. I was very surprise to have eaten the best seafood pasta dish. My husband had the spaghetti and for someone who surveys spaghetti from every italian restaurants... he says its the best spaghetti by far in Reno. :) I would have given the restaurant a 5 stars however the place was a little to small. The background noise was a little to much for me. If you have vertigo issues I would not consider the restaurant as a place to dine.

I had the spaghetti and meatballs and the spaghetti sauce was very acidic and unbalanced. I feel like if your going to spend $10 for a cocktail, then $16 for a simple plate of spaghetti with meat sauce it should be better then mediocre. My friend got a dinner sized caesar salad and a sadder salad Ive never seen. The salad was literally just lettuce drenched in dressing, no croutons, no extras nada, lettuce and dressing. Overall, based on this dining experience, I would not go back, overrated and overpriced.

A truly hidden secret in Reno, Nevada. The food is some of the best Italian food anywhere. Weve been there at least 5 times over the last year, and the service is incredible. Im not sure what happened to the disgruntled folks who give this place low ratings, but many times the owners of the restaurant have been our waiters and they are a wonderful group of people. Make reservations, as you cant really get in without them!

Honestly, for being an Italian restaurant, I expected more culture and better food. Not impressed, food was hella plain with no flavor. Go somewhere else. People writing these reviews up in here saying the food is good either dont have good taste buds, they are homies with the people there, they are writing their own reviews, or dont know what authentic Italian food taste like. Parking sucks also.

Very poor service. Waitress to bussy flirting with others to be bothered to take orders. Bought two bottles of wine on top of dinner. After paying the bill we were rudely asked to leave before finishing our wine because we were there too long. Dont waste your money or your time sadly enough chain restarants take better care of you. And reservations dont matter they truely do not care!

We have been coming to La Famiglia for several years, and it is just fantastic. The food, service, and ambiance are just wonderful. It is a great place to bring the family or for going out on a date. Give it a try, as you wont be disappointed, and you may get to see Piero play the accordion if you are lucky which adds to the charm of this restaurant. Sincerely, Jim Wetta

Very romantic Italian restaurant with amazing dishes. Kind of fancy so dress appropriately. They can handle large groups but its a great date restaurant too. Service was quick even on Valentines Day when they were packed. In beautiful downtown Reno right on the Truckee River Walk and within walking distance of the Nevada Art Museum .

Walk into restaurant one big room all open lady in an apron smiles no greeting we are taken to reserved table. Waiter comes over no introduction "What do you want to drink" very brisk. Wait service very bad for a higher end restaurant. Food average dessert good coffee weak. Wine excellent. We wont be back to this restaurant

We have always received great service here! The food is excellent and fresh. My husband proposed at this restaurant and the owners were nice enough to allow 15 of his fraternity brothers to take up space to serenade the surprise proposal. It was quite a feat for such a small space! We are excited for the new location too :)
