Ive never had Gem of India. Frankly, anyone who writes a review for one restaurant to boost another restaurant, Im pretty sure is being dishonest. Anyway, I love love love Taj. Every time Ive been in the past (about 10 times, not many restaurants get this kind of commitment from me) Ive made an effort to try new foods, and not once have I been served something that didnt 100% blow my mind. Its quick, quiet, and caring. The served plate, Ill admit, looks gross, but I think that may be my American "this isnt made of Kraft food coloring?". The staff is not overly friendly but attentive. Im betting they are used to people not knowing what to order. Finally, the best "big beer" (high ABV) Ive ever tasted is only carried at Taj Mahal (but no spoilers, you have to try them yourself).

Delicious food, attentive service (my water never runs out, and I drink a lot of water during meals), nice place. Love the lunch buffet! Delicious and fresh food with great variety including sauces, dessert, chai, salad, etc. I especially like the Butter Chicken, Tandori Chicken, and Tikka Masala...and Naan. The buffet is made for the American pallet, I am sure, because it has spice, but not TOO much spice. The menu items can be customized for spice amount (my husband, who likes his food spicy got a 2 or 3 star dish and was sweating, I got a 1 star and it was perfect for me, who does not like a burning mouth! :) ). I recommend it to anyone who likes international food in the area (and I have seen internationals eating there many times when I have come, which is always a good sign).

I went to Taj Mahal during their lunch Buffett to try them out. The food was ok I was not disappointed, however what did disappoint was the service. A employee came up to me and tried to BRIBE me. First he offered if I brought my co-workers for lunch I would receive a free dinner with my family. Then he mentioned that if I leave them a review, I would get a discount. Later when I went on their google page and saw over 40 reviews(within 2 years), I understood that it wasnt just me who was bribed. I am surprised how this restaurant thinks that no one would notice. If you dont believe me search for some top Springfield restaurants and Check how many reviews they have and how long it took. 40+ reviews in less than a couple of years, Im assured that these people were bribed. SHAMELESS

The best Indian food in Springfield MO, not the best Ive ever had, but definitely the best in town. The lunch buffet is good and has a lot of good options on it. It is a rather unique place to eat in Springfield, but not because it offers something unique to Springfield but because it is one of only three Indian restaurants in town, and of the three it is the best. Good food, good service, and a unique restaurant earn this place five stars with me for now, at least so long as another better Indian restaurant doesnt come along.

Service is great, but the spice is unpredictable. Ive ordered mild chicken biryani 3 times and each time, the spice is different. Today it was so spicy I gave up trying to eat it. :-( The prices are a bit high for what you get in return, but the food has excellent flavor. I just wish it was more consistent so a person knows what to expect. Also, whats up with the cashier? He stood at the register and took turns staring at people while they were eating. Creepy. Dont do that.

Passing through Springfield, I tried this place out. I feel bad for this restaurant. Why? The service was great, and it was visible that customers satisfaction is important to the staff. But the food ZERO. The efforts seem like they basically go into the drain. Restaurants run on food and no matter how good the service is, food must be good if you want customers to return. Compared to St. Louis, i give this 2 stars, that for the service!

Eating in, usually the buffet, or the many times getting take out; I or my guests have no complaints. Excellent service. Great food. In my opinion St. Louis Kyle would be a great reverse barometer. We all have that one friend who loves really bad movies and hates good ones. Some people are just more comfortable w the microwaved St.Louis style; nothing wrong w that, just different. Good people. Great food. Taj is the place.

Best Indian food in town! The lunch buffet is good and has adventurous as well as safe choices, but going for dinner and ordering off the menu is even better as you can customize the heat level! Favorites include chicken 65, butter chicken and anything with korma in the name. Also a great place for vegetarian options as there are many the eggplant dish is one of my favorites. Leave some room for rice pudding.

I purchased a KY3 coupon $5 representing a $10 value on a meal that had to be used for 2 at dinner prices. The restrictions on the coupon made it difficult and not worth the savings to even visit Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant. It was disappointing that we could not use it for lunch because to purchase off of the dinner menu was cost prohibitive when we didnt know if we would even like the cuisine.

We regularly enjoy the lunch buffet at this restaurant, as it always offers a great variety of Indian dishes (both the classics like chicken tikka as well as many vegetarian options). The staff is also friendly - I often bring my wild 4 year old (who adores the nan bread) and they always go out of their way to greet him and make him feel welcome. It is is favorite restaurant.

We have eaten Indian food for nearly 40 years and it is one of our favorites. We recently ate at the Taj Mahal and liked it very much. We have gone to Gem of India many times and find that the food is better at Taj Mahal. The only problem is that they are not very flexible when it comes to menu substitutions. We will continue to eat here instead of at Gem of India.

Not a bad place to have a nice dinner or lunch. The food is much better than other local indian restaurant. The dinning room is smaller but food is pretty good. The staff and management of the establishment could be a bit more lively and cordial. I would recommend for others to try this place out and make sure to write your review to help this restaurant improve.

Great food! The mild is a little too mild and the medium a little too hot but I dont care. Its delicious, there are vegetarian options, and the butter chicken is to die for. We always order extra as even the leftovers are amazing. (Im not generally a person who eats leftovers.) I would give them 5 stars if I could find a happy medium between the mild and medium.

Best Indian food in SW Missouri. Have no clue what those other people are talking about in their reviews. I go to Taj on a regular basis. The good is good, the service is always good, and while Indian can by spicy it isnt over the top with heat. Plus in it clean and the buffet is always full of food. Cant say that about other places I have been.
