Sadly this is no longer our favorite place in Springfield for Mexican food or a place I would recommend, as I had done just not an hour before we went. Our last three experiences have been awful service wise. The first one was about a month ago, we had the tall lady waitress, she was too busy flirting with a table full of guys and we waited to the point we had to ask about our food. It had set so long under heat lamps that the cheese sauce on my burrito had a thickened backup and had a rubbery film on top. When I pointed it out, she offered to Microwave it... yes, microwave it. I insisted on a new burrito and after asking several times, we had another waiter help us. The second time we were in for lunch and had her again. We had to ask for drink refills and again our food took forever. We just chalked that up to her being a horrible waitress. By the way, she still works there. But, after tonights experience we will NOT be back. The waiter carried our chip basket on top of a plate of food. It wasnt sitting to the side, it was literally on the food. We pointed this out stating that we wanted another plate of food, he argued stating he didnt have it on top of the food and that it was fine. Then he said it wasnt on top of the food it was in his other hand. We asked for the manager, he continued to argue and say he carried it in his other hand. The "other" hand was carrying the salsa (stupid idiot!) We had to ask him THREE times for a manager. As he walked off, he started laughing with another male waiter about the situation. That was it for us. We left, without paying for anything or eating the food wed been served. Its sad that a place that once had good service and has always had good food has to hire idiots and lose long time customers that come at least once a month and a business office that places over $100 lunch order twice a month..

My girlfriend went to El Maguey today with her sorority and the experience was not impressive. The food was sloppy and greasy I would give it a "Fair". Tacos fell completely apart because of being drenched in grease on the bottom on the plate. The only enjoyable part was the rice&beans, and the chips and salsa. Service? The waiter was unprofessional and slightly rude. He asked to move the cell phones from the table in order to place the water glass down. The table is large enough to find room to set down the glass. Tone was typical for a stranger to stranger interaction. Restaurants have a job to treat customers as the number one priority. Not impressed, If it were up to me, I would never go back. There are thousands of restaurants out there to choose from, and coming in means we enjoy our time there. Pick up the customer service slack. Simple smiles while waiting is a start.

This place terrible service but great food. I went in with my family twice and got the same waiter both times. He was extremely rude, offered no refills and didn't even clean up a drink that was spilled. Today I politely asked for another server and he proceeded to make a scene and didn't have anyone else come to help us. I tried giving them a second chance and the fact that attitudes that lose customers are permitted says a lot to me about what kind of place this is. The actual food is great but the salsa is made with tomoato paste and barely any onions or cilantro. I'm never going back, they had more than enough oppurtunities to gain my business.

Had the number 11, good Chile Relleno, tasty and filled taco, good rice and beans. Chips were tasty, as was the sauce. Service was great, we drink water and our waiter was quite attentive, serving us quick and efficiently. Im always happy when the food is good and I dont have to flag for a refill. Last year, we visited El Charro on Glenstone on the notion from another family member. When we were done, I felt like wed wasted our time and money. When we saw El Maguey, we knew from visits to other locations that it would be good. And it was.

We went in Wednesday around 7 ,seated promptly but after that it was 10 minutes for the server to get drink orders. We ordered 3 chicken tacos and and a combo meal. It was 30 minutes before the food came and we had no contact from the server or any other staff in that time. All the food was cold when it came. The tacos were falling apart, the burrito, enchilada and taco on the combo plate were cold as well. Server said "what do you want me to do about it, were busy and we serve our tacos cold". Worst service Ive ever had

Compared to Jose Locos (a couple blocks north past OReilly) this restaurant is cheaper priced with comparable if not better food quality. El Maguey serves great food and the servers are friendly, welcoming, and sociable. The restrooms are clean (though could use some minor repairs/maintenance) and there is no WiFi. I had a Quesadilla Mexicana mixed with steak and chicken (included was salad/beans/avocado/sour cream), and a Chimichanga Cheesecake for dessert (it was FANTASTIC). Would dine here again!

I just went there. 6:30 on a friday. My girlfriend and I walk in and a pleasant hostess said hello. We said two for the bar. She took us back to a low lit dingy back room with noone in it. Not even a bartender. We sat at the sticky bartop in the gloomy light. A lady came in a few minutes later with some chips and salsa. Still no bartender. A few servers wandered into the empty room. Still no bartender. We didnt feel welcomed. We felt punished actually. We left. We wont be coming bac

Absolutely Superb! I love Mexican cuisine and am notoriously picky about casual dining restaurants that offer this kind of fare. I dont live in Springfield and was in town for work. On my lunch break, I and some coworkers decided to try El Maguey and were very glad we did! The food was incredibly delicious, the service top-notch, and the prices were unbeatable! If I lived closer, El Maguey would easily be a regular place where I dined.

This has been my families go to Mexican restaurant since our favorite closed a few years ago. Good food, that is served up super fast & hot. Excellent portion sizes for the prize. We always come home with left-overs. A plus is the Vegetarian menu. The only draw back is getting in & out of the parking lot, which you cant blame the restaurant for. Its just hard to get on/off Glenstone/Chestnut Expressway.

The food is okay, nothing special and it is overpriced for the quality. The service is a bit slow, especially if you order to pick up. I waited 10 minutes just to tell the person I was here to pick up food. Sitting down to eat takes even longer. The staff really doesnt seem to care that you chose their restaurant over the many others in town.

The service was friendly, but the food was average to say the least. Not a lot of spice in food or salsa. Chips tasted and were textured, like they were from a bag. The fajita meat was not fresh. Ive bought premade fajita meat from grocery stores and that is what this was. Over all, it was ok but not great.
