How does this place have 4 stars? Maybe its because people in Des Moines have not had decent Indian food. What I dont understand is why none of the regular Indian restaurants do not give a f**k about hygiene and decor. This is not just the case with Des Moines. But everywhere. This place looked like the street side food court you come across on an Indian pilgrimage like Vaishno Devi where people stop by just for some edible food-esque substances and some rest to regain their energy. This place might as well start serving Parle-G and Kisme bar. The bar for quality Indian food is so low that they dont need to do much in terms of quality and hygiene to cross. Being bad among the worst is not and should not be a qualification criterion to classify as good Indian food. There was also a fly that did not leave us alone the whole time we were there. I understand my colleagues perfume must have been bothering it but should it have been in there in the first place? I wonder. Now for the service. The place has Namaste in its name. It literally means to greet others with utmost humility. Us? We didnt even get acknowledged by any of the staff (whose number was more than the number of patrons) to even seat us. We did get a few stares from them, not sure if it counts as acknowledgement. Now for the food. We went for the weekday lunch buffet. The food was so cold AF that they might as well have fished 2 days old food out of the refrigerator and microwaved it and no one would know the difference. The tongs to pick up the naan was hotter than the naan. The food tasted just barely OK. Dont get me wrong. It was much better than the 2nd best Indian restaurant in Des Moines, which just happens to be the problem in the first place. So imagine how bad the 2nd best place really was. The green chutney was more of diluted green oil paint. We got a Masala Tea too. Again they need to understand that masala constitutes spices other than cloves. I also assumed it would be hot. My bad. Might as well have called it Less cold Clove Tea and gotten away with it. I feel bad for residents of Des Moines that they have been subjected to such pitiful, underwhelming Indian food. Sincerely, An Indianc

Its wrong place to eat if youre looking to eat good Indian food. I ordered Andra Chicken and boy it was smelling like hell..It seems it was cooked a month back and kept in fridge just to wait for ppl like me show up. It was horrible expired food... Those who doesnt question Ill tell you owners of this place are cheap punjabis whose aim is to sell everything "no expire date matters".. they have typical slave mentality treat GORAs and feed expired crap to Indian crowd.. To all my white/local friends dont judge indian food based on crap these stupid fools sell you..I got sick after eating one byte of their food. Lot of my friends who visited Des moines complains same.. they use expired inventory and sell expired items. And they dont have manners/professionalism to deal with customers. One waiter not sure if he is the cook and cashier too always chewing tobacco and he spits a lot when talk to you ..All his front teeths are black (burned with tobbaco). My Indian friends if you are visiting Des monies ..Never ever waste your single penny/time on this place or their grocery store.

We went here for the first time looking for an enjoyable experience as well as meal and we came out thoroughly disapoointed. The restaurant had been open an hour when we got there and no one greeted us and no staff seemed to be present. There was one other table with people, but other than that it was empty. We sat ourselves and waited for more than 10 mins before a member of staff came out. When a member of the staff came out we were poured glasses of water with no questions asked regarding just a simple drink order. A woman walked through the door and the only member of staff present proceeded to go sit with her starting a conversation and ignoring not only our table, but the other table as well. To our disappoint we walked out after that and proceeded to go to a restaurant where we would be treated with respect as customers. We will not be back nor recommend this establishment to anyone. First impression is everything and quite frankly this place blew it.

The food here is always consistently good and so is the service. Some other reviewers have complained about waiting for staff, they only have one waiter who has to serve everyone and manage the day to day goings on. He works really hard and while you might have to wait for a few minutes for him to take care of others orders he is always polite, kind, and treats people with respect. A little compassion can go a long way when a family owned restaurant only has so much staff. And again, the food is great here. Ive eaten a lot of Indian food and lived in many, many places. So I have a lot to compare things to.

Im from Chicago, where there is a large Indian population and therefore, plenty of wonderful choices in terms of Indian establishments. So Im always a little skeptical when I try out new places while traveling in less ethnically diverse areas. I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend to try out the lunch buffet, which had a decent selection of foods and certainly satisfied our cravings. It was noticeable that the foods spiciness was toned down a bit to cater to the tastes of the locals, but we knew we werent really in a position to be picky. We will definitely return here next time were in town!

Ive been to over 20 different Indian Restaurants in several states, including all of them in the Des Moines area, and this place has exceeded them all in the quality of food. We ordered off the menu and everything was amazing! Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Byriani, Naan & Raitha and of course, a mango laasi. Well be back very soon and often. Dont be fooled by the outward appearance. Once you find the dining room youll be content in a quiet and separate area away from the grocery store. My reason for writing this review is actually a selfish one.....I want this place to be around a long time. lol

Ive only gone during the buffet hours, so this review only applies to that. They have recently remodeled and expanded the seating since moving the grocery to the other side of the strip mall. Much better decor. There is still a limited staff, and a laid back attitude, but if you ask for the bill youll get it promptly. Ive never been without a filled beverage; for a buffet thats all I can ask. The buffet has enough of a selection to keep me satisfied, but a few more choices would be better. However, they do seem to rotate a few items out so there is something new to try. Highly recommended!

I wish wed had the experience others did. We went for dinner and the place was super smoky, my meal had a piece of mango seed in it, and they switched the spice level in our food. My son ended up with the dish which was supposed to have spice (Im probably very tolerant of spice), and the other dish tasted like flavored water since there were absolutely no Indian spices. We are going to stick with the local Indian restaurants we know and love from now on. Please note we went for dinner. Im not going to risk a depressing lunch, though.
