Positives: mostly truly exceptional food, well-curated wine list. Negatives: very loud, poor value. In a nutshell: Ill be back, for moderately special occasions. More detail: The foie was incredible - the combination with cherry was superb - and they provided enough that the four toast points couldnt come close to supporting it. Thankfully, frites (fries) to the rescue! The lamb tartare needs to be experienced - served as a delicate sausage. Pig Face (pork jowel) had great flavor. Other small plates were lesser but still really good. Of the big plates, pork and steak were very good, other than the small portions. Etouffee was a tremendous fail - little flavor and small portions. Other reviewers have mentioned the portions, so let me be more specific. A big plate like the etouffee should be more than three shrimp, three shrimp size pieces of chicken a quarter of a cup of cooked rice and a weak broth where almost all of the minimal flavor was. If you go, expect that youll each need one big plate and at least three-four little plates apiece - food per person will likely run toward $60-80, then add beverages and service charges. If you go in with that expectation and enjoy the (mostly) extraordinary food and wines, this place will be great. I hate to give this mixed review - next time Ill go in with better expectations and only get the strongest dishes and Ill have a better experience.

I finally had the pleasure of dining at St. Genevieve after seeing months of rave reviews from local, regional and national media sources. St. Gen is another product of the brilliant mind of Steve Brown - his other famous restaurant being Tilia in the Linden Hills neighborhood. First, the ambiance of St. Gen is warm, intimate, and comforting. Ones eyes are immediately drawn to the intricate bar, that lies at the center of the space. The wait staff is inviting and accessible, but not overbearing - which makes the dining experience truly personal. The food is another reflection of the mastery Steve Brown possess. The french cuisine is refreshing to see in the ever expanding new-nordic focused Minneapolis food scene. I started off with the French Onion Tartine, which was a magical twist on the comfort soup I return to time and time again. For my entree, I had the duck/mushroom/leek special. A combination of some of my favorite foods. The plate was beautifully presented and forcefully brought together through a red wine sauce. While more expensive than most restaurants in the Twin Cities, St. Genevieve is worth every penny and more. Its a true masterpiece and I look forward to dining there again soon - perhaps for brunch.

Food is very fine, as is always the case when Stephen Brown is behind (or in) the kitchen. The place is lovely and the service is excellent but of course like most new places in town, it is way too loud when full, making it a better choice for late lunch than dinner. My biggest complaint is the wine list which while filled with interesting wines is just way, way too expensive for this type of bistro. The glass pours are very stingy (Ive been given no more than 4oz more than once) and very expensive, and with only 2 or 3 bottles under $40 and most nearly double that or more drinking wine here is almost out of the question. This is not grand dining but rather good neighborhood food and the wine list should fit it better. There are dozens and dozens of wonderful wines that could be offered at $30/bottle (or less) and still allow a good overhead for the restaurant. From now on we bring our own and pay the corkage, or drink beer. Id really like to see this fixed.

I really dont have far to go for a true French experience. You shall have these appetizer portions that are billed as entrees and minuscule wine and beer pours and you shall enjoy it. Only thing missing is an insulting wait staff. Really thought this owner pushes this with Tilia but when I pay a lot for lunch and have to go home and eat because I am famished!? Look fine dinning is one thing but this is an insult. Like I am saying if you want a slap in the face for over-priced food and and drink go here. The quality is good but not worth the cost. We go to London twice a year and I would not pay for this there. Hey last time I checked this was the mid-west?

New favorite for french food! Despite the elegant french decor the atmosphere here was more friendly and comfortable than many french restaurants Ive been to, making it a great place for anything from a fancy dress-up date to a casual dinner with a group of friends or family. The food was amazing especially for the reasonable prices, we ordered several of the small plates and deserts to share and every one was a hit, even with my boyfriends mother who lived in Europe for awhile and is very picky about french food. We were all contentedly stuffed with a food cost of ~$25/person.

Moules plus Frites. At least two dozen yummy mussels in a delicate broth served with amazing bread. Plus a bucket of yummy fries with aoli. Highly recommend this game plan - will feed two. Open late till 1 am. Full menu till 10 pm. Then a late-nite menu 10 pm to midnight. Genius. Nothing more needs to be said for a restaurant in South MPLS! And a real La Marzocco espresso machine - direct from Florence Italy. Wow. Just wow. My only suggestion is to add a good expensive Italian grappa to the digestif menu - an "espresso correto" is the only way to depart.

We went here with high expectations, but ultimately, it was just okay. The place was incredibly noisy. The food was okay. We had 6 small plates, and almost none of the dishes stood out. The sweetbread was the highlight of the meal, but the sauce was a tad too salty. The mussels were amazingly soft, but we got a few sands in our mouths from them. The foie gras was so disappointing as we coukd barely taste the duck liver. I would say its too expensive for the quality of the food.

Loved it. Beautiful presentation with a very neat staff. Their attentiveness definitely added to the splendid atmosphere. The food itself exceeded expectations. Would reccomnend heartily. My only discrepancies would be that the location has poor acoustics (its conversation-disturbingly loud inside), roughest toilet paper of my life, and the server will automatically bring you a new drink (Im fairly certain they charge). Great place nonetheless.

Love this place! Great food. Great Atmosphere. Great Service. I definitely recommend this place to my friends and will be back! Their menu has lots of small plates. My wife and I order a bunch of these and share them. Each small plate has large enough portion to share with one other person and four of them is about the right amount for two people to get a nice sample of their menu and satiate your appetite.

First time for my husband and me dining at STG for Sunday brunch on Valentines Day. Beignets were tasty clouds of yumminess, best we ever had! I had the roasted acorn/caramelized onion and decadently creamy cheese filled omelet and hubby had smoked salmon tartine. Both were incredibly flavorful! Awesome service with friendly knowledgeable staff. Cant wait to try their dinner menu!
